Woodworking machine buying guide
Benchtop jointer: board width, support and setup
Choose a jointer for making a flat reference face and a square edge before thickness planing. WEN's JT630H covers boards up to 6 inches wide with a fixed 30-inch table; the JT833H adds 8-inch capacity and supports extending to 51 inches. Buy for your actual stock and workspace: a wider cutter does not establish a deeper cut or a guaranteed long-board result.
If you need only a few boards, buying prepared lumber may avoid another machine. If your boards are already flat and you need parallel faces or a specific thickness, start with the thickness planer guide.

Choose by your boards and the room to support them
Published capacity and support dimensions; these are not tested long-board or finish ratings.
24 HSS inserts; cast-iron table, 34 inches extending to 54.
Specification comparison only. Neither width nor cast iron proves a suitable full-width cutting setting.
Do not treat 1/8 inch as a full-width cutting setting
The linked manuals list a 1/8-inch maximum and recommend multiple shallow passes at 1/32 inch. Their specification footnote also says to reduce the maximum depth by 1/32 inch per inch for boards over 6 inches wide. Applying that as a subtraction for each inch beyond 6 yields zero at 10 inches and a negative depth at 12 inches. That exposes a problem with a literal reading, not a usable cutting rule.
Before buying for faces wider than 6 inches, obtain WEN's applicable depth limit for the exact model and stock. We do not invent a corrected formula, approve a full-width 1/8-inch pass or promise that 1/32 inch is suitable at every width. The larger models remain unlinked comparison examples for this reason. Follow the exact machine's manual and material restrictions; this buying guide does not replace its operating instructions.
Speed disagreement: the current JT630H and JT833H product descriptions say 12,000 RPM, while their linked manuals say 11,000 RPM. We do not rank them by speed or turn either figure into a tested finish advantage. Confirm the supplied machine's revision if speed matters to your purchase.
Budget for alignment, support and chip collection
The 51- and 54-inch figures describe extended support length, not a certified maximum board length. WEN calls for additional support at both ends for long workpieces. Measure the working path, your bench, the board entering and leaving, and the collection hose—not just the stored machine.
WEN requires secure mounting to a flat, stable surface or stand. Its manuals describe checking table alignment and fence stops after shipping or use. Do not assume the factory setup guarantees square edges. Keep the guard in place, use the prescribed push aids, and follow the complete setup procedure with power disconnected. The manuals prohibit gloves during operation.
Short-stock limits differ: the JT630H/JT833H manuals prohibit pieces shorter than 8-1/8 inches, narrower than 3/4 inch or thinner than 1/4 inch. The current JT1020H manual raises the minimum length to 10 inches. Check the exact supplied manual before planning to machine small parts; maximum cutting width does not establish a safe fit.
Buyer reports include fence/table alignment work and dust-hose fit problems, alongside positive experiences. One 3-star JT833H review describes repeated adjustments and chip buildup without a vacuum. These reports help identify checks to make; they do not establish a defect rate, a universal board-length limit or our own test results. WEN itself calls for connected dust collection and separate electrical circuits for the jointer and collector.
What the two purchase packages include
WEN JT630H: fixed-table 6-inch option
The manual lists 120V AC, 60 Hz, 10 A; 6-inch cutting width; 12 inserts; a 30 × 6-3/16-inch table; a 4-1/4 × 19-3/4-inch fence; a 2-1/2-inch dust port; and 36.8 lb. The maker's product description gives 30 × 6 inches instead; confirm the delivered unit's dimensions if bench clearance is tight. These are published dimensions, not measurements of your delivered unit.
The packing list includes the jointer, fence and its brackets, two push blocks, dust port and adjustment hardware/tools. It does not list the larger model's dust-port adapter. Supply a suitable bench and connected collection system; check your hose's actual connection rather than assuming every nominal 2-1/2-inch fitting mates.
Choose it when 6-inch capacity covers your stock and a fixed short table fits the supported work. It is the machine-only JT630H listing below, not the separate listing bundled with a belt/disc sander.
The manual lists 120V AC, 60 Hz, 10 A; 8-inch cutting width; 16 inserts; a 33 × 8-inch table extending to 51 inches; the same 4-1/4 × 19-3/4-inch fence; 2-1/2- and 4-inch dust connections; and 55.1 lb. It adds width and support reach, not a verified improvement in finish or usable depth at every width.
Its packing list includes the jointer, fence/brackets, two push blocks, adjustment hardware/tools and dust-port adapter; the dust port is pre-installed. The hose, vacuum/collector and bench are additional setup items.
Confirm WEN's depth limit before buying for boards wider than 6 inches. Its extending supports still require the manual's workpiece-support and alignment checks. If you need only narrow stock, the extra width alone does not justify replacing a suitable existing jointer.
The current maker pages describe cast-iron tables and 20 or 24 staggered HSS inserts, respectively. The manuals list 120V 12 A, 11,000 RPM, 10- or 12-inch cutting width, a 34-inch table extending to 54, a 4-1/4 × 24-inch fence and 2-1/2- or 4-inch dust connections. Published weights are 79.5 and 87.1 lb. The packing lists show the fence/brackets, two push blocks, dust port/adapter and adjustment hardware/tools.
These are larger, heavier setups to evaluate, not automatic upgrades. Their source depth issue remains unresolved. No Amazon link or stock conclusion is provided for them. The JT1224H product page currently links its June 2024 manual; the JT1020H page links the November 2025 combined manual. Use the document that applies to the delivered machine.
Required extras and ownership limits
Stable mounting and workpiece support: allow for the full material path and appropriate long-stock support.
Dust collection: a port and adapter are not a collector or hose. Check actual fitting dimensions and the manual's separate-circuit requirement.
Replacement inserts: WEN identifies BP510H HSS inserts. “Spiral” does not prove a carbide cutting head, cross-brand insert compatibility, quieter operation or longer blade life.
Time and tools for setup: check fence angle, table alignment and support adjustment as the exact manual specifies. A wider machine cannot cure an unverified setup.
The JT630H/JT833H manual warranty statement limits personal-use coverage to two years or 500 hours, whichever comes first; professional/commercial use is 90 days. It excludes normal wear, including blades, and requires proof of purchase and the stated seller/claim conditions. Do not turn the short “two-year warranty” label into commercial coverage or a promise for a particular seller. Read the full applicable terms before buying.
For ripping boards to width, compare track saw vs table saw. For parallel faces and final thickness after establishing a flat reference, use the thickness planer guide. Keep a suitable tool you already own, or buy prepared stock for a small project.
Common buying questions
Should I buy a 6- or 8-inch benchtop jointer?
Choose by your stock width and support needs. JT630H lists 6-inch capacity and a fixed 30-inch table; JT833H lists 8-inch capacity and supports extending to 51 inches. Before buying for boards wider than 6 inches, confirm WEN's applicable cutting-depth limit. Extra width does not guarantee better finish.
Can these jointers remove 1/8 inch across their full width?
Do not assume that. The manuals list a 1/8-inch maximum and a 1/32-inch recommendation, but add a wider-stock reduction footnote whose literal subtraction is unusable for the 10- and 12-inch models. Obtain the applicable depth limit for the exact machine and stock; we do not provide a corrected formula.
Do extending supports establish the longest board I can joint?
No. WEN's 51- and 54-inch figures describe support length. Its manuals call for additional support at both ends with long workpieces. Workspace, support and alignment still need checking against the exact instructions.
Does the jointer include dust collection?
It includes a dust port, and the JT833H also lists a dust-port adapter. It does not include a complete collector and hose setup. WEN calls for connected collection and separate electrical circuits for the jointer and collector.
