DEWALT hedge trimmer buying guide
DEWALT hedge trimmers: compact, 22 to 26 in., or pole, by branch size and reach
Choose by the thickest branch and how high you reach. DEWALT's 8 in. DCHT823D1 cuts up to 1/2 in. for detail work; its 22 in. 20V MAX trimmers cut up to 3/4 in.; the 24 in. DCHT826B cuts up to 1 in. For tall hedges, its pole trimmers give up to 12 ft of reach (20V) or a 92 in. total length (60V articulating).
Linked option, 22 in. kit with battery: DEWALT lists the DCHT821P1 as a brushless 22 in. trimmer for branches up to 3/4 in., with up to 78 minutes of no-load runtime on its DCB205 5.0Ah battery; the kit also includes a charger and a protective sheath. Check the DEWALT DCHT821P1 on Amazon
Prepared from DEWALT's product pages for nine hedge trimmers and heads, read October 10, 2026. We have not tested these trimmers. Runtime and speed figures are DEWALT's own. The DCHT821P1 link goes to an Amazon listing checked on October 10, 2026 as new and sold by Amazon.com, with only one left in stock at that check; offers change, so check that the listing says DCHT821P1. The other trimmers are not linked because we have not confirmed an Amazon offer for them.

Where DEWALT's pages disagree
- Blade length fields: the spec lists for the DCHT820B and DCHT870B give blade lengths near 3 in., while their titles and features say 22 and 26 in. We follow the titles and features.
- DEWALT's comparisons: the DCHT826B claims 14.3% faster cutting than the DCHT821 and a 10.3% lighter tool than the DCHT870. Those are DEWALT's own comparisons.
When to skip one
- Skip the 22 in. 20V trimmers for branches over 3/4 in.; choose the DCHT826B or a pole trimmer rated to 1 in. or more.
- Skip the 60V trimmers if you only own 20V MAX batteries.
- Skip the DCPH820BH head unless you already own a DCPH820 or DCPS620.
