Electric scooter buying guide
Electric scooters with a seat: check range, lifting weight and fit
A seat does not make a scooter easy to carry: these four weigh 56–73 pounds. Start with your total rider-and-cargo load, storage space and range at your riding speed. Hiboy’s Q2 claims 22 miles at an 11 mph test speed, while GOTRAX’s A7 has conflicting 25- and 28-mile claims. Neither is a promise of range at 20 mph.
Specifications and limits come from the linked makers and Q2 manual, not hands-on rides. Range figures are published claims, not our measurements.
Compare the four seated scooters
Published range, load and lifting weight. Check the exact model rather than a family listing’s headline.
Maker: up to 9.5 miles, 15.5 mph; test conditions not stated in the page read.
220 lb total / 56 lb
Lightest of these four, folding frame and rear suspension; shortest advertised range.
Fit and storage checks before buying
Count the full load. Include yourself, clothes, a bag and anything in the basket. The Q2 manual explicitly includes the rider and carried objects within 220 lb; GOTRAX calls its figures total weight limits. A basket does not add another allowance above that limit.
Check the lift and folded shape. GOTRAX describes both the A3 and Flex Voyager as folding. The Q2 listing also advertises folding; its manual calls for checking the folding buckle and locks before riding. A7 listing text mentions a folding frame/T-bar, but the maker page does not give a folded size. Confirm what folds and measure your storage opening. None of these weights is a good reason to assume easy stair carrying.
Do not plan a full-speed trip from the headline range. The Q2 manual’s 22-mile test uses a 165 lb load, 77°F, no wind, a flat surface, a full battery and 11 mph. Load, terrain, tire pressure, riding mode and stops change range. The A7’s range conflict remains unresolved.
Check rider eligibility. Q2 manual: 16–50 years; product page: 16–60. The manual requires adult supervision below 18. Confirm the applicable limit if the difference affects you. These are recreational two-wheel scooters, not substitutes for a mobility device; the Q2 manual excludes use when balance or motor-skill limitations affect safe operation. Check local rules and whether your route permits the exact device before buying.
Read the rain rule, not just an IP code. Q2 page: IPX4; manual: IPX5. The manual discusses light rain tolerance but also says to avoid rainy, muddy or slippery conditions, and excludes water damage from warranty. Neither rating makes it waterproof. No IP rating was found in the three GOTRAX product pages read here.
Ask for model-matching certification evidence. UL 2272 concerns a scooter’s electrical system; UL 2271 covers batteries for light electric vehicles. Maker badges and battery wording do not establish a matching device certificate. We have not independently verified certification for these exact listings.
If lifting weight, standing-room storage or a seat is not essential to your purchase, compare the standing electric-scooter guides before buying another scooter.
Exact buying options and model limits
GOTRAX A7 — 16-inch wheels and underseat storage
The maker lists a 500 W motor, 48V 10.4Ah battery, front and rear suspension, 16 × 2.5-inch tires, a half-twist throttle and two gears. A rear basket and underseat compartment distinguish it from the smaller seated options. Its 73 lb weight is the storage trade-off.
Listing conflicts: the Black A7’s Amazon title says 25 miles, while the maker and listing bullets say up to 28. One bullet says a 22 mph gear; other listing text and the maker give 20 mph. The maker advertises two years of warranty, while this listing gives one year/365 days of parts cover. Confirm the exact supplied version and coverage with GOTRAX; do not buy on a promise of the higher figure. An A7-specific manual was not found in the maker’s linked directory.
Exact A7 model field and Black option checked October 7, 2026. Confirm the model, included parts, seller and availability before ordering.
Hiboy Q2 — read the range test and manual first
Hiboy lists a 500 W peak motor, 36V 9Ah battery (324 Wh), 14-inch pneumatic tires, front and rear suspension and a rear basket. Its manual names front and rear drum brakes; the product specification block also uses “E-braking & Drum braking.” The manual lists 5.5–6.5 hours to charge, versus 6.5 hours on the page.
The manual describes recreational use only and prohibits passengers. It includes a seat, seat tube, front wheel, basket, charger and assembly tools; follow its assembly and tire-pressure instructions before riding. The product page advertises one year of warranty; water damage is excluded in the manual. Read the age and IP conflicts above, not just the listing’s broader Q2/U2 headline.
The selected Orange listing has Q2 model and part-number fields, checked October 7, 2026. Q2 Lite is a different children’s scooter; U2 specifications are not substituted here.
GOTRAX Flex Voyager — separate it from Flex Ultra
The Voyager page lists 350 W, a 36V 8Ah battery, 14-inch pneumatic tires, rear suspension, an LCD, key start and a basket. Its comparison identifies Flex Ultra as a different 500 W, 20 mph, 25-mile model. The page labels Voyager’s frame folding and gives a one-year model warranty; confirm applicable parts coverage. No exact Amazon Voyager offer is qualified for a buy button here.
GOTRAX A3 Aero — a shorter-range folding option
The A3 page lists 350 W, a 36V 5.2Ah battery, 12-inch pneumatic tires, a cushioned seat, footboards and rear suspension. A folding frame and 56 lb weight may suit storage better than the A7, but its advertised 9.5-mile range is much shorter. The page shows both one- and two-year warranty labels; confirm the applicable term. No exact Amazon A3 offer is qualified for a buy button here.
Could you keep the scooter you already own?
GOTRAX lists a seat attachment for GXL V2, Rival and XR Ultra. Confirm your exact model, fit and current availability before buying a replacement scooter; the maker says parts sales are final. Its listing is not evidence that the attachment fits other models. This is a compatibility alternative, not a qualified Amazon offer.
A seated platform may still make sense when you need its storage or larger wheels. If you need a seat because balancing is difficult, these two-wheel recreational scooters may be the wrong purchase; follow the exact maker’s rider restrictions.
No price, review score, tested comfort or guaranteed range is used to rank these choices. Current retailer fields do not resolve the maker/manual conflicts noted here. Match the exact model and option before ordering.
