Two brushless tools that share one 2Ah battery

Amazon lists the kit as a BLD782D1 drill/driver, a BLIM78D1 impact driver, one LBD2020S 2Ah battery, a 1A charger, a double-ended screwdriver bit and a belt clip. BLACK+DECKER's page describes a 20V MAX POWERCONNECT brushless 1/2 in. drill/driver and 1/4 in. hex impact driver combo with battery and charger included.

With one battery for two tools, only one can run at a time and there is no spare to charge while you work. Amazon lists the kit at 6.27 lb, and gives the drill's top speed as 1,900 rpm and the impact driver's as 3,200 rpm with three settings.

The drill/driver has no hammer mode

The shared BLD782/BLD783 manual shows a hammer symbol on the collar only for the BLD783. The BLD782 in this kit has clutch numbers 1 to 10 and a drill setting, two speeds selected with a slider, a single-sleeve keyless chuck with spindle lock and a magnetic bit holder.

Because there is no hammer mode, masonry work is outside what this drill is described for. For drilling capacities and technique, use the manual's operation pages; the pages read for this guide do not give a capacity table for the BLD782.

The impact driver's three modes

The BLIM78 manual lists three modes at 0 to 900 rpm, 0 to 1,900 rpm and 0 to 3,200 rpm. Amazon's listing gives up to 2,000 in-lbs of maximum torque; the manual pages read do not state a torque figure.

The chuck takes 1/4 in. hex accessories and a 1/2 in. adaptor, and the manual says to use only impact-rated accessories. It adds that delivered torque varies, so critical fastenings should be checked with a torque wrench.

What BLACK+DECKER's power claim compares

BLACK+DECKER's footnote says the kit's more-power and more-runtime claims compare the brushless drill on an LBD2020S battery against its own brushed BCD382 drill driver, with runtime measured in speed 2 drilling 7/8 in. bits into 2x SPF lumber. Treat those as maker comparisons against an older BLACK+DECKER drill.

The BLIM78 manual's intended-use statement describes the impact driver's purpose, and the BLD782/BLD783 manual covers the drill/driver; both tools also have a magnetic bit holder. No kit-specific manual link was shown on BLACK+DECKER's page, so the two tool manuals are the reference.

Care and handling

The BLD782/BLD783 manual asks you to blow dust out of the vents at least weekly. For cleaning agents and battery care, use the manuals in the box; the pages read for this guide did not cover them.

The charger manual was not read for this guide, so charge times and indicator lights are not covered here. Amazon names the charger only as a 1A unit, and BLACK+DECKER's kit page does not give a charger model.

Warranty: two years, plus three with registration

Both manuals give a 2+3 year limited warranty: two years as standard, and an additional three-year limited warranty if you register the product with proof of purchase within 30 days of purchase. Both exclude products sold in Latin America.

BLACK+DECKER's own product page panel only says warranty information varies by product. Keep your receipt and register within the 30-day window if you want the longer coverage described in the manuals.
