What the kit includes
Bosch's includes list names the JS572EB jigsaw, a plastic shoe, an anti-splinter insert, three assorted T-shank blades and a carrying case. The Amazon listing's model field reads JS572EBK.
It is a 120V corded saw rated at 7.2 amps. Bosch's technical data lists 4.85 lb, a 1 in. stroke length and no dust collection, and its add-ons include a dust collection attachment, a steel overshoe and a jigsaw guide.
Barrel grip, switch and dial
The barrel grip has a soft-grip area up front, which Bosch says has the smallest circumference in its class. On this EB model a slide switch on the side of the motor housing turns the saw on and locks in the on position; you slide it back to turn it off. Speed is preset on the dial rather than by a trigger.
The manual's table runs from 800 strokes per minute at setting 1 to 3,000 at setting 6. It says slower speeds suit denser materials and faster speeds softer ones, and that after long runs at low speed you should run the saw at full speed for a few minutes to keep the motor efficient.
Orbit settings and blower
An orbit lever has four settings. The manual assigns 0 to hard materials such as metals or thin sheet metal, I to soft materials needing cleaner cuts or delicate scrolling, II to harder woods or particle board, and III to soft materials where fast cutting matters more than a clean cut.
Constant Response circuitry gives a soft start and holds the selected speed under load, per the manual. The two-position chip blower is for wood and plastic; the manual says to switch it off for metal, when using cooling agents or with the dust collection accessory.
Blades and footplate
The One-Touch lever inserts and ejects blades so you need not touch a hot blade, and the manual warns that the blade ejects forcefully, so point it away from people. The clamp grips T-shank blades only, since Bosch says its jigsaws do not accept U-shank blades, and a double-roller guide limits blade deflection.
The die-cast aluminum footplate adjusts without tools and tilts up to 45 degrees either way, with detents at 0 and 45 and marks for 15, 22.5 and 30 degrees. The manual says to remove the dust shroud and anti-splinter insert first, and limits plunge cuts to blades 3-1/8 in. or shorter, never into steel.
Light, capacity and warranty
The LED work light has its own on/off switch and works only while the cord is plugged in, per the manual. Bosch's technical data gives cutting capacities of 5-1/2 in. in softwood, 0.875 in. in aluminum and 0.375 in. in mild steel, but the manual's specifications list 3-1/2 in. in wood, 13/16 in. in aluminum and 5/16 in. in mild steel.
