CRAFTSMAN CMCD700C1 V20 Cordless 1/2 in. Drill/Driver Kit

Light household drilling and driving on a single small V20 battery

This is CRAFTSMAN's brushed CMCD700 drill/driver with one V20 battery, a charger and a double-sided bit. CRAFTSMAN's page lists the battery as both 1.5Ah and 1.3Ah, and its spec table's 23 clutch settings disagree with the manuals' 15. There is no hammer mode. Tools carry three years of warranty, batteries two.

One drill/driver, one battery, a charger and a bit

CRAFTSMAN's kit page, whose barcode matches the Amazon UPC, lists a CMCD700 drill/driver, a double-sided bit, one V20 20V MAX battery and a V20 charger. There is no bag or impact driver. CRAFTSMAN lists a brushed motor, 280 unit watts out, two speeds of 0 to 350 and 0 to 1,500 rpm and a 1/2 in. keyless chuck.

CRAFTSMAN gives the kit as 4.65 lb; Amazon lists 4.33 lb. Amazon's bullet says the charger takes 60 minutes or less on the included battery; the CRAFTSMAN documents read do not give a charge time. Amazon's speed field of 3,400 rpm does not match the 1,500 rpm maximum CRAFTSMAN lists.

Battery size: 1.3Ah or 1.5Ah

CRAFTSMAN's own page disagrees with itself. Its title and specification table say a 1.5Ah battery, while its include list says a V20 20V MAX 1.3Ah battery. Amazon's details also say 1.3Ah. With only one small pack in the kit, runtime between charges is limited either way.

Check the label on the pack you receive. The CMCD700 manual's warranty section lists different free-service periods for different CRAFTSMAN battery models, so the exact pack model also affects how long the battery is covered.

Clutch settings: the manual says 15

Both CRAFTSMAN CMCD700 manuals checked, Type 1 and Type 3, describe clutch numbers 1 to 15 on the mode collar plus a drill position. CRAFTSMAN's kit specification table says 23 clutch settings, and Amazon's details say 24 positions. The sources do not explain the difference.

Rely on the collar on the tool you receive. Whichever count is printed, the manual's clutch numbers 1 to 15 plus the drill position are what the two CRAFTSMAN manuals describe, so the tool's behaviour should match the manual rather than the spec table.

What the drill is and is not for

The CMCD700 has no hammer mode, per the manual's intended-use page. The manual gives pilot-hole advice for larger holes in steel, and it describes electronic protection for the tool, so a stall is handled by the electronics rather than a slipping hammer mechanism.

Speed 1 is selected by sliding the switch back away from the chuck, per the manual. The keyless chuck is tight after seven clicks. The manual's operating pages carry the remaining handling guidance, which we did not record in detail.

Charging, protection and cleaning

The manual describes a hot/cold pack delay, shown by a blinking green light with a solid red light, and an electronic protection system for the tool. Charging is delayed rather than refused when the pack is outside its temperature range.

Blow dust out of the vents with dry air at least weekly, per the manual. The drill has a VersaTrack hang-hook location for CRAFTSMAN's wall system, and the manual's maintenance page carries the cleaning instructions we did not record in detail.

Warranty terms

CRAFTSMAN's kit page lists a three-year limited warranty. The manual gives three years for the tool and two years for batteries, with a free-service table listing different periods for different CRAFTSMAN battery models.

The manual also lists a ninety-day money-back guarantee with a receipt and says the warranty does not apply to products sold in Latin America. The listing includes a separate CRAFTSMAN product warranty guide dated 2018; keep your receipt and check current terms with CRAFTSMAN.
