One drill/driver with a single 5Ah POWERSTACK battery

DEWALT's kit page lists a DCD801 20V MAX XR brushless 1/2 in. drill/driver, one DCBP520 5Ah POWERSTACK battery, a charger, a kit bag and a belt hook. Amazon's included components match and name the charger as a DCB1104; DEWALT's page does not give the charger model.

With one battery there is no spare to swap in while it charges. Amazon lists the kit at 6.58 lb; DEWALT's page for this kit gives no weight or dimensions. The listing's own instruction PDF was not opened; the manual linked from DEWALT's kit page was read instead.

Amazon calls it a hammer drill; the manual says it is not

Amazon's details table sets the drill type to hammer drill. DEWALT's own title and include list describe the DCD801 as a drill/driver, and the manual lists only a drilling mode and clutch settings 1 to 15 for this model. The hammerdrill mode in the same manual belongs to the DCD806, which is a separate tool.

The manual's capacity table gives no masonry figure for the DCD801, while listing 1/4 in. carbide bits for the DCD806. If drilling brick or concrete is a regular need, choose a kit with a hammer mode instead of relying on the listing's hammer-drill label.

Wood and metal capacities from the manual

For the DCD801, the manual lists 1-1/2 in. auger and paddle bits, 1 in. twist, 2-9/16 in. self-feed and 3 in. hole saws in wood, and 1/2 in. twist and 1-1/2 in. hole saws in metal. Amazon's metal drilling capacity of 0.5 in. agrees with the manual's twist-bit figure.

DEWALT's kit page lists two speeds, 0 to 650 and 0 to 2,000 rpm. The manual describes fifteen clutch settings, a 1/2 in. chuck and an LED with off, on and twenty-minute modes for the DCD801.

Anti-rotation, clutch and worklight

The manual describes DEWALT's ANTI-ROTATION system with a red indicator light, and explains that the clutch is not active in drill mode, so a binding bit is not limited by the clutch. Read that page before drilling large holes.

The LED has off, on and twenty-minute modes, per the manual. Amazon's details give a metal drilling capacity of 0.5 in., which agrees with the manual's 1/2 in. twist-bit figure, and the listing's hammer-drill label is the one field that does not match.

Charging and cleaning

The manual says to charge only when the air is between 40°F and 104°F, with 65°F to 75°F giving the longest battery life, and describes a hot/cold pack delay that pauses charging until the pack reaches a suitable temperature. Amazon lists the included charger as a 4 amp DCB1104 for 12V, 20V MAX and FLEXVOLT packs.

Blow dust out of the vents at least once a week, per the manual. The charger manual was not read for this guide, so charger indicator lights and charge times are not covered here; use the documents in the box.

Warranty: note the 30-day satisfaction period

DEWALT's DCD801H1 kit page lists a three-year limited warranty, one year of free service and a thirty-day satisfaction guarantee. That is shorter than the ninety days shown on DEWALT's DCD801QQ2 kit page for the same drill, so check the terms on the page or packaging for the exact kit you buy.

The manual carries a three-year limited warranty heading that points to DEWALT's warranty page for full terms and says the warranty does not apply to products sold in Latin America. Keep the receipt for the thirty-day guarantee and any warranty claim.
