DEWALT DCD801QQ2 20V MAX XR Brushless Drill/Driver Kit with Two 4Ah POWERPACK Batteries

Wood and metal drilling and driving without a hammer mode

This kit is DEWALT's two-speed DCD801 XR drill/driver with two 4Ah POWERPACK batteries, a charger and a bag. The manual shows no hammer mode and no masonry capacity for this model, but rates it for 3 in. hole saws in wood. Amazon's combination-drill label and 1.75 in. wood capacity do not match the manual.

Fit and limits

Strengths

  • Anti-rotation shutdown and 20-minute worklight mode
  • Maker publishes the manual with a clear capacity table

Caveats

  • No hammer mode and no masonry capacity listed in the manual
  • Amazon's drill type and wood capacity do not match the manual
  • Charger model is not named by DEWALT

One XR drill/driver with two 4Ah POWERPACK batteries

DEWALT's kit page lists a DCD801 20V MAX XR brushless 1/2 in. drill/driver, a belt hook, two DCB2104 20V MAX XR 4Ah batteries, a charger and a kit bag. DEWALT gives the kit as 7.5 lb; Amazon's table gives 7.52 lb and 9.92 by 3.98 by 12.8 in.

Amazon's table calls the charger a multi-port fast charger; DEWALT's page says only charger and does not give a model. If charging two packs at once matters to you, confirm the charger in the box, since the DEWALT source read does not describe it.

This is a drill/driver: there is no hammer mode

Amazon's details table labels the drill type as a combination drill. The DCD801 manual lists only a drilling mode and clutch settings 1 to 15 for this model; the hammerdrill mode it describes is for the DCD806, a different tool. If you need to drill brick or concrete regularly, this kit is not set up for it.

The manual's maximum recommended capacity table lists no masonry figure for the DCD801, while listing 1/4 in. carbide bits for the DCD806. Neither the kit page nor the manual pages read give a masonry size for this drill, so do not plan masonry work around it.

Wood and metal capacities from the manual

The DCD801 capacities are 1-1/2 in. auger and paddle bits, 1 in. twist, 2-9/16 in. self-feed and 3 in. hole saws in wood, and 1/2 in. twist and 1-1/2 in. hole saws in metal. Amazon's table gives a wood drilling capacity of 1.75 in., which does not match any figure in the manual's table.

DEWALT lists two speeds, 0 to 650 and 0 to 2,000 rpm, fifteen clutch settings and a 70-lumen LED. Its claim of up to 175 holes per charge used a DCB2104 battery and a 7/8 in. auger in 1-1/2 in. SPF, and its 109 percent more power claim is against the DEWALT DCD777 on the same battery.

Control features: anti-rotation, speed switch and worklight

The manual describes an ANTI-ROTATION system with a red indicator light, and explains that the clutch is not active in drill mode, so a binding bit is not limited by the clutch. Read the manual's page on this before drilling large holes.

The LED has off, on and twenty-minute modes, per the manual. Amazon's table lists 1,050 maximum watts out; that figure was not found on the DEWALT kit page read, so treat it as listing information.

Charging and cleaning

The manual says to charge only when the air is between 40°F and 104°F and recommends 65°F to 75°F for the longest battery life. A hot or cold pack triggers a charging delay, and charging resumes on its own once the pack reaches temperature.

Blow dust out of the vents at least once a week, per the manual. The charger manual was not read for this guide, so charger indicator lights and charging times are not covered here; use the documents in the box.

Warranty terms

DEWALT's kit page lists a three-year limited warranty, one year of free service and a ninety-day satisfaction guarantee. The manual carries a three-year limited warranty heading that points to DEWALT's warranty page for the full terms and says the warranty does not apply to products sold in Latin America.

Keep the receipt for the ninety-day guarantee and any warranty claim. The kit page and the manual agree on three years; the manual's page for full terms is DEWALT's warranty page.
