A 12V subcompact pair for light drilling and fastening
DEWALT's kit page, whose barcode matches the Amazon UPC, lists a DCD701B XTREME 12V MAX brushless 3/8 in. drill/driver, a DCF801B XTREME 12V MAX brushless 1/4 in. impact driver, two DCB122 12V MAX batteries, a 12V MAX/20V MAX charger, a belt clip and a kit bag. Amazon names the charger DCB112 and lists the batteries as 2Ah.
This kit runs on DEWALT's 12V MAX battery system. The included charger is listed as a 12V MAX/20V MAX charger; the tools themselves are listed with DCB122 12V MAX packs, so the charger can also serve 20V MAX packs if you own them.
DEWALT's own page mentions 20V batteries in error
The overview paragraph on DEWALT's kit page says the kit features two 20V MAX batteries. The same page's include list and specification table name two DCB122 12V MAX 2.0Ah batteries, as does Amazon. The include list is the version that agrees with every other source read, but confirm the packs on arrival.
Weight also differs sharply. DEWALT's specification table gives the assembled kit as 6.64 lb, while Amazon's details give 1.9 lb. Neither source explains the gap, so use DEWALT's kit figure for carrying and shipping estimates and confirm on the box label if the number matters to you.
The drill: small chuck, small holes
DEWALT lists a 3/8 in. ratcheting chuck, two speeds, fifteen clutch settings and three LEDs, with 250 unit watts out and a 5.97 in. front-to-back length per Amazon's description. The manual says speed 1 is the higher-torque setting and is selected by sliding the switch back, away from the chuck.
The manual's maximum recommended capacities are modest: metal drilling 1/4 in. in low range and 1/8 in. in high range; wood flat boring 3/4 in. and 1/2 in.; hole saws 3/4 in. and 5/8 in. For larger holes or masonry, this is not the tool; the manual reserves hammerdrilling for the DCD706, which is not in this kit.
The impact driver and its Precision Drive mode
DEWALT's kit page says the DCF801 impact driver has three mode settings including a Precision Drive feature for accuracy, and Amazon's description gives 1,450 in-lbs of torque and a 5.05 in. front-to-back length. We did not read the DCF801 manual, so mode speeds and accessory limits are not listed here.
DEWALT's comparison claims of 32 percent more power for the drill and 52 percent more torque for the driver are measured against older DCD410 and DCF815 tools using a smaller 1.3Ah battery, per its footnotes. Treat them as comparisons with DEWALT's previous 12V models, not with other brands.
How the manual says to use and care for the drill
The manual asks for one hand on the main handle and one on the battery pack. The manual's operating pages carry the remaining handling guidance, which we did not record in detail, so read them before the first hole in steel.
For care, blow dust out of the vents with dry air at least once a week, per the manual. The manual's maintenance page carries the cleaning instructions, which we did not record in detail.
Warranty and repairs
DEWALT's kit page lists a three-year limited warranty, one year of free service and a ninety-day satisfaction guarantee. The DCD701 manual carries a three-year limited warranty heading that points to DEWALT's warranty page for terms and says the warranty does not apply to products sold in Latin America.
