A dual-hose inverter unit with two BTU ratings

Dreo's specification list for the 740S gives 10,000 BTU under the DOE method and 14,000 BTU under ASHRAE, and lists an inverter, a dual-hose layout and a dual motor. The listing gives the same BTU pair.

Room-size figures do not agree. Dreo's page says up to 400 square feet. The listing's first bullet says rooms of 200 to 300 square feet, while its details table gives both a 400-square-foot coverage area and a 200-square-foot floor area.

Dreo lists 1,500 watts on 115 volts, a CEER of 12, R32 refrigerant and a dehumidification capacity of 112 pints a day. The listing gives 1,540 watts, a CEER of 12.2 and 96 pints a day. The manual's specification table for DR-HAC010S gives 115 volts at 60 Hz. Drainage-free below 90% humidity, with a hose for Dry mode

Dreo's page describes the unit as drainage-free in environments below 90% humidity, and the listing repeats that. Dreo's FAQ and the manual both list a P1 code for a full water tray.

For a P1 code, the manual describes draining through the bottom drain cap into a drip pan that is not included, and says the unit needs service if the error repeats.

In Dry mode the manual calls for a drain hose led to a drain lower than the unit, and for Cool and ECO use it recommends keeping the drain cap on. When the unit is switched off, the manual says a 20-second countdown runs to dry the evaporator.

Modes, Power Cooling and a timer

Cool mode is set between 61 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Dry mode takes a humidity target from 30% to 80% in 5% steps, defaulting to 60%, with a drain hose fitted. The manual also lists a Power Cooling option that runs the fan at maximum with a 16 C setting.

The manual's Sleep function switches off after 8 hours and raises the target by 2 degrees Fahrenheit an hour up to 86. ECO works only in Cool mode, with power levels chosen in the Dreo app. The mode light shows blue, orange or green.

Dreo's page gives the timer as 24 hours in the app and 12 hours on the control panel; the manual gives 0 to 12 hours. Dreo lists Alexa and Google Assistant, while the listing names Alexa only. The manual adds a child lock, a memory of previous settings except the timer, and a remote meant for use within 26 feet that takes two AAA batteries.

A window kit for 20 to 53 inches

Dreo's page says the kit fits window heights of 20 to 53 inches, and the listing gives 20 to 53 inches for hung and sliding windows. The manual's window page gives a standard minimum of 20 inches and a maximum of 53.3 inches, and says a panel can be cut down for openings under 20 inches or between 20 and 24.

The box, per Dreo, holds a four-panel window kit, two exhaust hoses of 5 feet each, a drain hose, the remote and two batteries. The listing gives the hose diameter as 5.9 inches. The manual also shows an optional locking plate fitted with screws.

Dreo's page lists the unit at 14.37 by 17.32 by 28.11 inches, and the listing gives 28.13 inches for the height and a weight of 55.4 pounds. The manual asks for the unit to stand upright for at least six hours before its first use, and for two or more people to lift it.

Three feet from bedding and curtains, and its own outlet

The manual asks for the unit to stay at least 3 feet from combustible materials such as bedding, curtains and furniture, with an air path of at least 12 inches all around. It should stand on a floor able to support 110 pounds.

The manual rules out adapters and extension cords, says no other appliance should share the same outlet, and says a loose plug should not be used. It asks for the LCDI plug to be tested before each use; the steps are in the manual.

If the unit has been carried on its side, the manual says to stand it up and leave it unplugged for six hours. It gives an operating room range of 60 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit for Cool and Dry.

Filters every two months, and a 12-month warranty

The manual asks for the filter to be cleaned at least once every two months. The outer case is wiped with a damp, lint-free cloth and mild detergent; the manual rules out cleaning the unit with water or running water, and using flammable liquids.

Error codes E0, E1 and E2 mean contacting customer service. Below 60 degrees Fahrenheit indoors, the troubleshooting table points to Fan Only mode. Dreo's page lists the same codes in its FAQ.

The manual's warranty runs 12 months from purchase, and without proof of purchase it starts two months from the manufacture date. It covers the original purchaser only, is not transferable, applies in the country of purchase, and excludes units bought from unauthorised retailers; the remedy is repair or replacement at Dreo's discretion. The listing calls it a 12-month limited warranty.
