Which number is on the box: 14,000 or 12,000
The Amazon title calls this the Midea Duo 14,000 BTU with 12,000 BTU SACC. Midea's own product page for the same model number, MAP14S1TBL-A, titles it the 12,000 BTU DOE DUO Smart Inverter Portable Air Conditioner. The listing's table shows both figures in one field.
Both sources agree on the room claim of 550 square feet, though the listing's table also carries a minimum coverage of 450. Midea's page claims 40 percent energy savings compared with the DOE CEER minimum; the listing says more than 40 percent compared with the U.S. federal standard. Neither gives test conditions, and we did not measure anything.
Midea's page is inconsistent on heat. It calls the unit 3-in-1 and its spec block reads Heat: No, while a comfort-features line on the same page lists Cool, Dehumidify, Ventilate and Heat. The manual covers separate heat-pump models and says not to select Heat on a cooling-only unit.
Hose-in-hose venting and a window kit for 19 to 64 inches
Midea's page describes a hose-in-hose design, with intake and exhaust air carried in one hose assembly. The manual says not to overextend or bend the hose, to keep objects at least 20 inches (about 500 mm) away from the hose inlet and outlet, and not to add any extension to the exhaust hose.
For the window, the manual says the kit fits windows from 19.1 to 63.8 inches (48.4 to 162 cm) using combinations of five sliders, with separate adapters for sliding windows, a kit brace, a security bracket, several foam seals and eight bolts.
Midea's page gives the unit as 16.73 by 19.53 by 32.48 inches and 73.85 pounds; the listing says 75 pounds. The manual places it at least 9.8 inches (25 cm) from the nearest wall.
Power rules, refrigerant and room size
The manual asks for a properly grounded outlet protected by a fuse or breaker sized to the nameplate current. It rules out modifying the cord, extension cords and sharing a single outlet with other appliances. The listing gives 115 volts and 1,300 watts.
The manual's refrigerant warnings are for R32, a flammable refrigerant: store the unit away from continuously operating ignition sources, and install, operate and store it in a room larger than 4 square metres. The listing's table names R 410A instead. The manual says the label on the unit takes precedence on minimum room area.
The manual rules out wet rooms and locations exposed to combustible gas, and says the wheels should not be used on thick carpet, so check both the room and the floor where the unit will stand.
Modes, sleep and ComfortSense
The panel offers Auto, Cool, Dry and Fan, with fan speeds Low, Medium, High, Auto and a continuous setting. The thermostat sets 60 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit. The manual's operating range is 60 to 95 degrees for Cool and 55 to 95 for Dry.
Sleep mode raises the set point by 2 degrees Fahrenheit after 30 minutes and by another 2 after a further 30, and holds it for seven hours. The timer schedules an automatic start or stop in half-hour steps up to 10 hours and one-hour steps up to 24. After a power cut the unit restarts on its previous settings, and the compressor waits three minutes before restarting.
The manual's ComfortSense feature works with the remote up to 26 feet away, updating every three minutes. Midea's page and the listing add app, smart-watch and voice control; the listing names Alexa and Google Assistant.
A drain pump in Dry mode, and P1 when the tray fills
The listing describes a self-evaporating system. For continuous draining, the manual's Dry-mode section uses the upper drain port and supplied drain hose, and says that because the unit contains a condensate pump, the hose can be raised up to six feet (1.8 m) toward a drain, as long as the end points downward.
When the bottom tray fills, the unit beeps eight times, shows P1 and stops cooling or dehumidifying while the fan keeps running; the manual says to drain the tray after a P1 alert. It also lists E1 to E4 error codes.
Midea's customer service number in the manual is 1-866-646-4332. The manual's troubleshooting also says that poor cooling can mean the room area is too large for the unit. Midea's page gives 550 square feet for this model.
Filter every two weeks, and a warranty from the delivery date
The air filter is part of the removable grille. The manual asks for it to be cleaned every two weeks with water, says never to run the unit without it, and tells pet owners to wipe the grille periodically.
The manual says to drain the tray after a P1 alert and before storage, and its storage routine includes running the unit on Fan mode for 12 hours and keeping it somewhere cool and dark.
The warranty is one year from the date of delivery or purchase, whichever is later, and covers parts and repair for defects through Midea or an authorised servicer. You pay for diagnostics, removal, transport and reinstallation. Commercial, business or rental use, unauthorised service and altered serial numbers are excluded, so keep the bill of sale or delivery slip. The listing states the one-year term.
