A sub-compact brushless hammer drill with one battery
Amazon lists the kit as an HD6294B-00 20V brushless sub-compact hammer drill, one BY519702 2.0Ah battery with PWR ASSIST mobile charging, a QC536001 Auto PWR JUMP charger, a belt clip and a screwdriving bit. SKIL's HD6294B page offers the same drill as tool-only or in battery-and-charger configurations, and its manual file is named for HD6294B-10.
SKIL lists the drill at 2.03 lb without battery; Amazon gives the packaged kit as 5.8 lb. SKIL's feature list says the battery has a USB port that SKIL calls PWR ASSIST mobile charging. Only one battery is included, so plan for downtime while it charges.
What the 5-minute charge figure means
Amazon's details list a charging time of 5 minutes. SKIL's page explains that PWR JUMP charges a battery from 0 to 25 percent in 5 minutes, enough for up to 100 screws based on a 2.0Ah battery. That is a partial top-up, not a full charge.
SKIL's page for the QC536001 charger gives full charging times of about 30 minutes for a 2.0Ah battery and 60 minutes for 5.0Ah, at 6 amps from a 120V outlet. The manual recommends operating the drill between 14°F and 104°F and storing it between 32°F and 104°F.
Specifications and the three modes
The manual lists 0 to 500 and 0 to 1,800 rpm, 0 to 7,500 and 0 to 27,000 impacts per minute, a 1/2 in. chuck and 17 clutch positions plus drill and hammer modes. SKIL rates maximum torque at 450 in-lbs. SKIL's web spec line prints the impact rate as 0-2,7000, which differs in format from the manual's 27,000.
The manual gives guidance on when to use low and high speed. It warns not to use hammer mode on wood, metal, ceramic or plastic, and not to hammer when drilling tile, so the hammer setting is for masonry only.
Drilling tips from the manual
The manual's drilling tips page carries SKIL's guidance for masonry, metal and tile, which we did not record in detail, so read it before the first hole. The 17 clutch positions are set with the tool stopped.
The manual notes the chuck retaining screw has a left-hand thread, which matters if you ever replace the chuck. Keep the manual for that page, since it is easy to strip the screw by turning it the wrong way.
Worklight signals, cleaning and service
The worklight turns off after 10 seconds when switched on by the trigger, or after 10 minutes when turned on with its button. It flashes rapidly when the tool or battery overheats and the tool shuts off, and flashes slowly when the battery is low. The manual says to let the tool cool before restarting.
The manual's cleaning page carries the care instructions, which we did not record in detail. Service should go to SKIL under the warranty terms below rather than a general repair shop.
Warranty: register within 30 days for five years
The manual's limited warranty covers SKIL consumer tools for five years from purchase for the original purchaser, if the product is registered within 30 days. Without timely registration the tool warranty is three years. Batteries and chargers are covered for two years either way.
Industrial, professional or commercial use cuts tool coverage to ninety days regardless of registration. Claims require prepaid return, and the warranty covers products sold in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.
