Which VM901 this is and what comes in the box
Amazon's details give this ASIN as model number and part number VM901-2HD, manufacturer VTech, UPC 735078051578, even though the title shortens it to VM901-2. VTech's product page is for model VM901-2HD, and the quick start guide attached to the listing is headed VM901HD and VM901-2HD, marked Gen 2 in its document code, dated 10/24. Where the guide gives an instruction for the two-camera version it labels it For VM901-2HD only.
VTech's What's Included list is one parent unit, two baby units, two wall mounts, four screws, four wall anchors, three AC adapters and a quick start guide. Amazon's list matches it. The guide's cable management section also says two sets of cord-management parts come with the VM901-2HD.
Only a two-page quick start guide is attached to the listing. It covers setup, menus, icons and safety, but it does not include a runtime figure or warranty terms, and we did not find a full VTech user's manual for this model to read.
Direct mode out of the box, Wi-Fi mode for the app
The quick start guide describes two ways the system connects. In Direct mode, the default, the parent unit and baby units link to each other directly so video streams straight out of the box. In Wi-Fi mode, the baby units join your 2.4 GHz home Wi-Fi network so the MyVTech Baby Plus app can stream live video to a phone. The guide says Wi-Fi mode is also what lets the system receive firmware updates.
The guide's app set-up asks you to create an account, be on a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, turn on Bluetooth and Location on the phone, then scan a QR code shown on the parent unit. Minimum phone requirements are Android 9.0 or later, excluding 32-bit Android devices, and iOS 14 or later. Camera Sharing lets you invite a family member by the name and email of their app account.
The listing's details and first bullet name the app MyVTech Baby, while the manufacturer panel, the guide and VTech's page call it MyVTech Baby Plus. Search the app store for the Plus name given in VTech's own documents.
Screen, cameras and zoom, as VTech states them
VTech's page says the cameras stream 1080p to the app, while the 5-inch parent unit is a 720p HD IPS screen; the guide gives the parent screen as 1280 by 720 pixels. So the 1080p figure on VTech's page applies to app viewing, not to the screen in the box. VTech's comparison table lists the camera viewing angle as 110 degrees.
VTech gives the camera movement as a 360-degree panoramic view and a 147-degree vertical view. It says the camera zooms up to 10 times in the app and up to 8 times from the parent unit. Amazon lists the zoom as digital, with an 8x figure, and a 110-degree viewing angle that matches VTech's comparison table.
With two cameras, the guide's monitoring-mode menu offers Single, Split screen, and Patrol, which switches between cameras every 10 seconds. The guide's baby unit overview lists infrared LEDs, a light sensor, a temperature sensor and a pair/reset button, and says the unit's indicator LEDs are off by default.
Battery and power
The guide gives the parent unit battery as a 3.7 V, 5000mAh, 18.5 Wh lithium-ion pack and says it is internal and not user-replaceable. Each baby unit uses a 5 V DC, 1.5 A adapter and the parent unit a 5 V DC, 2 A adapter, with specific adapter models named in the guide. Each baby unit has its own adapter, so plan an outlet within cord reach for each camera.
Neither the guide nor VTech's page states a battery runtime. Amazon's details give three figures: up to 15 hours of video streaming, 19 hours of audio-only streaming, and a battery average life of 5 hours. We cannot reconcile those, so confirm runtime with VTech if you plan to carry the parent unit unplugged for long stretches.
The guide lists a screen-off timer that can switch the parent screen off after 1, 3 or 5 minutes, or an Auto setting that turns it off after 50 seconds with no sound. The guide does not tie any of these settings to a runtime figure.
Alerts, sounds and a night light that one source lists
The guide's alert settings cover motion detection with Low, Medium or High sensitivity, temperature alerts with maximum and minimum limits, a low-battery alert and a lost-link alert. It also lists five melodies and five soothing sounds with a timer of 15, 30 or 60 minutes or non-stop, and VTech's page also gives five melodies and five ambient sounds.
VTech's page lists a two-way intercom, and the listing's bullets name two-way talk, the app and camera sharing. The listing's manufacturer panel adds three levels of motion sensitivity and a six-level sound indicator. We did not use the app, so we cannot describe which alerts reach a phone.
VTech's page contradicts itself on a night light. A general features block describes a night light on the baby unit, but the comparison table on the same page shows no night light for this model, and the guide's baby unit overview lists no night light. Treat the night light as unconfirmed for the VM901-2HD.
Installation limits and warranty
The guide says adult setup is required and that the baby unit must not be installed higher than 6.5 feet. It carries a list of safety instructions covering cords, power adapters and placement; read those in the guide before choosing where to put each camera, rather than relying on a summary.
The guide also says the power adapters are meant for a vertical or floor-mount outlet only and not to use an extension cord. Among its privacy tips it recommends resetting the monitor periodically; the guide's own wording is the one to follow.
Amazon's details list a 1 Year Limited warranty. The guide invites you to register the product at VTech's site for what it calls enhanced warranty support but states no period, and we did not read VTech's warranty terms. Confirm the length and conditions with VTech.
