Dehumidifiers for a bedroom: check the pint condition, the noise figure and the bucket
Three units for a bedroom, compared on what their makers publish
The square-foot figures on these units do not share a basis. Midea gives its 20-pint Cube 1,500 sq ft and names no test condition. Ivation says its 13-pint desiccant unit is for spaces up to 270 sq ft. Frigidaire publishes no room size for its 50-pint FHDD5034Y1, so the listing’s 4,500 sq ft is Amazon’s alone. Pint figures also depend on the test: Ivation measures its 13 pints at 68 °F and 60% humidity, and the Amazon listing for Levoit’s LDH-H251S gives 25 pints at 65 °F and 60% but 84 at 104 °F and 95%.
Noise figures are scarce. Of the three units below, only Frigidaire publishes decibels, one per fan speed; the Midea and Ivation documents read give none, and nothing on this page was measured by us. Two sources also mention heat: Frigidaire’s guide says its unit produces heat while running, and Ivation’s listing says its unit warms the air.
Sold for bedrooms by its maker: Ivation IVADDH06
Ivation sells this desiccant unit as a small-area dehumidifier for a bedroom or bathroom, for spaces up to 270 sq ft, and its manual rates it at 13 pints a day at 68 °F and 60% humidity. Its Sleep setting runs a low fan and heat with a dimmed display, and a DIM button sets the screen brightness. Humidity is set from 35 to 85% in 5% steps; at the target the unit pauses, but the fan still runs 5 minutes every half hour.
It draws 470 watts on high and 280 on low. The tank holds 0.5 gallon, and the manual says the drain hose is not included, though the listing says it is.

A 20-pint compressor unit: Midea Cube MAD20S1QWT
Midea lists 20 pints a day and no built-in pump. The Amazon listing names bedrooms among its uses; Midea’s page names living rooms, basements and garages. A Fill Level button sets how full the bucket gets before the bucket-full switch trips: about 1.5 gallons (17 lb), 2, 2.75 or 3 gallons (29.5 lb), so you choose how heavy a bucket you carry. The manual asks for 8 inches clear on all sides and 16 at the air outlet, a room above 41 °F, and a spot away from a heater or radiator.
It has Set, Max and Continuous modes, a timer and auto restart, and nests in its bucket for storage. Midea lists a one-year warranty.

A published noise figure and a Quiet mode: Frigidaire FHDD5034Y1
Frigidaire’s spec sheet lists 47 dBA on low, 49 on medium and 51 on high, without a measuring distance. Quiet mode runs the fan on low the whole time and sets a comfortable humidity by itself. It is a 50-pint Energy Star unit with a 2.7-gallon bucket; when the bucket is full the unit shuts off and the bucket-full light comes on.
In Dry mode humidity can be set from 35 to 85% in 5% steps. The guide asks for 12 inches clear all round and says the unit should not run in an enclosed small space like a closet. It has no pump, and continuous draining needs a garden hose you supply.

Before you buy
- Check a mini unit’s daily figure. Pro Breeze’s page calls the PB-02 great for bedrooms. Its manual names small rooms, wardrobes, cabinets and storage rooms, and rates it at about 9 ounces (250 ml) a day at 86 °F and 80% humidity, with a 500 ml tank emptied by hand.
- Measure the spot. Clearance asks differ: Midea 8 inches all round and 16 at the outlet, Frigidaire 12 inches all round, Levoit’s LDH-H251S 8 inches from walls and 16 above the outlet, and GE’s ADHE50BWF 18 inches on every side.
- Plan the emptying. Tank size sets how often you carry water: 0.5 gallon on the Ivation, 1.1 gallons on the Levoit LDH-H251S, up to 3 gallons on the Midea. The three units above have no pump, so a hose drains only to a drain below the unit.

What to check before buying
The dehumidifier guides here tie each pints-per-day figure to the temperature and humidity it was measured at, since the same unit can carry very different numbers. They also check whether water drains by pump or by gravity, how much the full bucket holds and weighs, and the clearance and room temperatures the manual allows.
- Pints and test condition. Compare pint figures only at the same conditions. Guides report 80 pints at 95°F against 24.9 pints on the ENERGY STAR record, 53 pints at 80°F against 113 at saturation, and one maker giving both 190 and 90 pints.
- Draining without a pump. Units with no pump drain by hose only when the drain is lower than the outlet, and some need a hose you supply. The guides flag this for rooms where the nearest sink or drain sits above the unit.
- Pump lift and start. Pump models differ in lift and in when the pump runs. Guides report lift quoted as 14, 15 or 16 feet across sources, pumps that start only at a full bucket, and one manual that ties pump features to a different model code.
- Bucket size and weight. Several guides give the manual's fill levels in gallons and pounds, up to about 40 pounds of water in a full 4.2-gallon bucket. Others note tank sizes stated differently by the manual, the maker's table and the listing.
- Space and room temperature. Clearance asks range from 8 inches with 16 at the outlet to 18 inches on every side, and one desiccant unit asks for 24 inches above it and 20 inches on one side when its air outlet vent is closed. Manuals also set room temperature limits, often from 41°F, and one pump manual says the pump must not run at 41°F or below.
