Doorbell cameras without a subscription: what each maker says works with no plan
What each doorbell does with no paid plan
“No subscription” usually means the doorbell saves video on storage you own instead of in the maker's cloud. The five doorbells below record locally, per their makers, and all five can run on doorbell wiring or an Ethernet cable. eufy, TP-Link and Aqara also sell cloud plans, and TP-Link and Aqara keep picture notifications or some AI detection inside them. The plan terms below are as published on September 29, 2026, and makers can change them.
Storage on the doorbell, battery or wired: eufy Video Doorbell E340
eufy lists 8 GB of storage on the doorbell itself and describes the E340 as having no subscription fee. It adds a second, downward camera for the step, runs on a removable battery or on doorbell wiring (wired mode still runs from the battery, which the wiring tops up), and eufy says it works with existing chimes. eufy's footnotes say thumbnail previews in push notifications are stored in the cloud for a time, and it sells cloud backup as part of a paid membership.

A microSD card and free AI alerts, battery or wired: TP-Link Tapo D225
Tapo's page says the D225 saves up to 512 GB to a microSD card at no extra cost (the card is sold separately) and that its on-device AI tags people, packages and vehicles without a subscription. It comes with its own indoor chime and runs on a 10,000 mAh battery or 8-24V AC wiring. 24/7 recording means fitting a jumper that bypasses your existing chime. Tapo's spec table lists notifications with a snapshot as a Tapo Care service.

Wired only, with 24/7 recording to a card: Kasa Smart Video Doorbell KD110
TP-Link's datasheet says the KD110 can save footage continuously to a microSD card, which is not included, with Kasa Care as the paid cloud option. It is hardwired only on a 16-24 VAC doorbell transformer and comes with a plug-in indoor chime. The largest card is 128 GB or 256 GB depending on the hardware version, so a card of 128 GB or less is the size every source supports. The datasheet lists snapshot notifications as a Kasa Care service.

No Wi-Fi and no monthly fee: Reolink Video Doorbell PoE
Reolink's page says local storage has no monthly fees and lists a microSD card of up to 256 GB, a Reolink NVR, a Reolink Home Hub Pro, or an FTP or NAS server. Power and data run over one Ethernet cable (802.3af PoE), with 12-24V AC doorbell wiring as a second power route. It has no Wi-Fi at all, and the PoE switch or injector is not in the box. Reolink's FAQ says it cannot directly operate a traditional mechanical chime; a plug-in chime is included.

Local person detection, PoE or wiring: Aqara Doorbell Camera G400 (Wired)
Aqara says the G400 detects motion and people with local AI, without relying on the cloud, and records 24/7 to a microSD card of up to 512 GB. The card is not included, and Aqara says NAS backup needs it too. It runs on PoE or 8-24V doorbell wiring. Face, animal, package and vehicle detection and cloud storage need a HomeGuardian plan, which Aqara says is paid after a free trial. HomeKit Secure Video needs an iCloud+ plan and an Apple home hub, and the G400 will not ring a traditional chime; an RF chime is included.

Where the plan does most of the work
Ring says its devices provide “certain features” without a plan and points to a Ring Protect plan for video recording and other advanced features. Google includes 6 hours of 10-second video previews with the Nest Doorbell (wired, 3rd gen); longer event history and 24/7 history need Google Home Premium. Chamberlain's installation guide for the myQ Video Doorbell gives livestream video, motion detection and alerts without a subscription, and says video history needs the paid myQ plan.
The Arlo Video Doorbell 2K listing says live streaming and basic alerts work without a subscription; cloud history and AI detection need Arlo Secure after the trial.
Two makers sit in between. Without a plan, Wyze says the Video Doorbell v2 saves 12-second clips when the button is pressed and snapshots for other events, while a microSD card gives it 24/7 local recording; full-length event videos need Cam Plus or Cam Protect. Blink's FAQ says the Battery Doorbell 2K+ can store video locally with no subscription through a Sync Module with a USB drive or a Sync Module XR with a microSD card. Blink's storage page says the Sync Module Core, the module in the bundle we cover, does not support local storage.
Before you count on no plan
- Plans change. Ring's terms reserve the right to change its offerings, including their description and availability, at any time. TP-Link says Kasa Care plans vary by country and region. Check the maker's plan page on the day you buy.
- The card is extra. The Tapo, Kasa, Aqara and Wyze doorbells above need a microSD card bought separately, and so does the Reolink unless it records to a Reolink NVR, Home Hub Pro or FTP or NAS server. The eufy E340 stores on the doorbell itself.
- 24/7 recording needs constant power. Wyze ties 24/7 recording on its Duo Cam Doorbell to wired power, and on the Tapo D225 and eufy C31 it means bypassing your existing chime.

What to check before buying
The video doorbell guides here begin with power: the transformer voltage each maker asks for, or whether a battery or PoE runs it. They then check what happens to your existing indoor chime, which parts or hubs the box leaves out, and which recording and detection features need a paid plan rather than local storage.
- Transformer voltage asked. Wired doorbells state a transformer range, often 16-24 VAC and sometimes 8-24 VAC. Guides report the same maker giving two different ranges across its documents, so check your transformer against the manual as well as the listing.
- Your existing chime. Guides report doorbells where 24/7 recording means bypassing the old chime, a chime kit the maker says must be fitted unless the chime is bypassed, battery modes that leave the chime silent, and models that cannot ring a mechanical chime at all.
- Parts not in the box. Check what the listing leaves out. Guides report an add-on doorbell sold without the hub it requires, battery models with no chime in the box, a PoE model without the injector, and a doorbell locked to its paired chime-hub.
- Plan vs local storage. Some doorbells keep clips on built-in storage or microSD with no plan. Others put saved history, person and package detection or video search behind a subscription, and one gives six hours of previews free.
- Wi-Fi and spec conflicts. Several models are 2.4 GHz only. Guides also report a listing and maker disagreeing on 5 GHz support, two pixel counts for the same 4K or 2K label, and a microSD limit that depends on hardware version.
