What this bundle is, and what is in the box

This listing is the bundle version of Arlo's Video Doorbell 2K (2nd Generation): Amazon's part number is AVDK4001-100CNS and the doorbell inside is model AVD4001. This kit adds an Arlo Chime 2 to that doorbell, and the chime is the practical difference from buying the AVD4001 on its own. Arlo's quick start guide for this kit, titled Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) and Chime 2, is the document that matches it.

That guide's box list is the doorbell with its mounting plate, a USB charging cable, a wire extension kit, an optional angled bracket, a release pin, a screw kit and the Chime 2. The release pin removes the mounting plate to reach the charging port and pairing button. The doorbell is set up first in the Arlo Secure app, then the Chime 2 is added as a separate device.

We did not find or read a Chime 2 manual or datasheet, so what we can say about the chime comes from the Amazon listing: an 80+ decibel siren or door alarm, selectable melodies and volume, and setup over Wi-Fi without a base station. The quick start guide adds only that it is added in the app after the doorbell.

Power: battery first, 8-24V AC wiring optional

The AVD4001 is battery operated by design. The datasheet gives an integrated rechargeable battery of 3.69V and 4730mAh, and the quick start guide recommends charging it fully before setup; the front LED turns solid blue at 100 percent. The manual says wiring is optional and that hardwiring lets you use your home's existing chime and trickle-charges the battery.

For hardwiring, the datasheet requires 8V to 24V AC and existing doorbell and chime wiring. The manual's power-source specification is 8-24V AC at a minimum of 0.65A, 50/60Hz. It also says that if you set the doorbell up wire-free first and later want it wired, you have to remove it from your Arlo account and add it again as a wired doorbell.

We are not reproducing the wiring steps. The manual covers them, including a chime-type setting of mechanical, digital or none and a bypass mode on an Arlo Power Kit for some 16-24V AC transformers; the kit's quick start guide does not list a Power Kit in the box. If your wiring or transformer is unclear, have an electrician confirm it.

Camera, night vision and the listing's numbers

Arlo's datasheet gives resolution up to 1944 by 1944 with HDR, H.264 and H.265 encoding, a 180 degree diagonal field of view and 12x digital zoom. Amazon's fields list a video capture resolution of 1440p and an optical zoom of 12. Neither matches the datasheet, which describes square 1944 by 1944 video and digital, not optical, zoom.

Night vision in the datasheet is a single 850 nm infrared LED that illuminates up to 20 feet, and the listing's own night vision field says black and white. The manual says the lower half of the field of view is the motion-sensitive part of the image, and recommends mounting the doorbell about 4 feet (1.2 m) above the ground.

On weather, the Amazon bullets and description say IP65. The datasheet does not give an IP code; it says the doorbell is weather resistant and certified to withstand heat, cold, rain or sun, with an operating range of -4 to 113 F (-20 to 45 C). If a specific rating matters for your door, ask Arlo to confirm it.

Wi-Fi range and placement

The doorbell connects to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only; the datasheet lists it as a requirement and the manual says setup connects to your router's 2.4 GHz network. The datasheet's range is up to 300 feet line of sight, and the manual asks for the doorbell to be within 300 feet of the router.

The manual also recommends at least 6.5 feet (2 metres) between the doorbell and any other Arlo cameras. If your router sits far from the front door, check the Wi-Fi signal at the door before you drill any holes.

For mounting, the manual calls for a 6 mm (15/64 inch) drill bit and recommends drywall anchors, and the datasheet lists flat and angled mounting plates. The datasheet gives the doorbell as 1.91 by 5.32 by 1.31 inches and 202.4 g.

What works without an Arlo Secure plan

The listing includes a one-month trial of Arlo Secure and says a paid plan is required after the trial. It also says live streaming and basic alerts work without a subscription. The datasheet's footnote says Arlo Secure features may need a paid subscription after the trial period.

The documents disagree on cloud history length. The datasheet's Arlo Secure panel says recorded clips are kept for 30 days; the listing's bullet, describing the Arlo Secure Early Warning System plan, says 60-day video history. We did not read Arlo's plan pages, so check which plan gives which history before subscribing.

The datasheet lists AI detection of people, packages, vehicles and animals, activity zones, rich notifications and one-tap emergency response under Arlo Secure. The manual notes that activity zones do not reduce battery use, and that frequent recordings shorten battery life, while hardwiring trickle-charges the battery.

Siren, warranty and what we could not confirm

The datasheet says the integrated siren can be triggered automatically or manually from the Arlo Secure app, and the listing's Chime 2 description adds a separate 80+ decibel siren or door alarm on the chime itself.

On warranty, the datasheet says the product comes with a limited warranty that is valid only if bought from an Arlo authorised reseller, and points to arlo.com/warranty. Amazon's field says 1-Year Limited. We did not read Arlo's warranty page, so confirm the seller qualifies and the term before relying on it.

Amazon lists the battery as 18.21 watt-hours, a figure not stated in the datasheet, which gives 3.69V and 4730mAh instead. The listing also says Apple Home works only with an Arlo SmartHub, which the documents we read do not cover. Treat both as listing claims rather than maker specifications.
