A sealed oil radiator with no fan and nothing to refill
The EW7707CM is a De'Longhi ComforTemp oil-filled radiator. It warms a room by radiating heat from its fins rather than blowing air, so there is no fan noise and nothing stirring up dust. Its rating plate details, printed on the first page of the manual, are 120V~60Hz and 1500 W.
De'Longhi's own FAQ sheet for this model answers the question buyers ask most: the oil is there for the life of the product and never needs changing or topping up. It is diathermic heat transfer fluid, not fuel. The same sheet says the power cord is six feet long, which is worth knowing before you plan where it will stand.
The radiator ships with castors folded in. The manual tells you to turn it upside-down on a rug or soft surface so you do not scratch the paint, fold the castors fully outwards, and stand it back up. There is no other assembly.
Three power levels, and what each one actually draws
The listing says three heat settings and 1500 watts; De'Longhi's FAQ sheet gives the real numbers for its 1500-watt radiators: minimum 700 W, intermediate 800 W and maximum 1500 W. The manual explains how you get them. There are two rocker switches. Switch one alone is minimum power, switch two alone is intermediate power, and both down together is maximum.
The thermostat is a numbered dial, not a temperature readout. The manual's start-up routine is to turn the dial fully clockwise, push both switches down, and then, once the room feels right, turn the dial slowly anticlockwise until you hear a click. From then on the radiator cycles to hold that point. Higher numbers mean warmer, lower numbers cooler, and the thermostat reads room air temperature rather than radiator temperature.
ComforTemp is a separate button. With both switches down and ComforTemp pressed, the manual says the appliance sets itself to reach and hold a suggested ideal temperature, and a green pilot light comes on. Pressing it again returns you to manual control. The listing's claim of up to twenty per cent more efficiency carries its own footnote: it is measured against the same unit run on its thermostat at maximum without ComforTemp, not against another heater.
Three feet in front and above, and a minimum room size
The manual's clearance rule is stricter than most because this radiator radiates upward as well as forward. Keep combustible materials such as furniture, pillows, bedding, papers, clothes and curtains at least three feet (0.9 m) from the front and the top of the heater, and keep them away from the sides and rear. Never cover the appliance while it is running.
There is also a minimum room size, which very few heaters state: the manual says do not use this radiator in rooms with a floor area of less than 43 square feet (4 square metres). That rules out small bathrooms and closets even before you reach the separate instruction that it is not intended for bathrooms, laundry areas or similar indoor locations, and must never be placed where it could fall into a bathtub or other water container. It is not for outdoor use.
De'Longhi suggests standing it on the floor beneath the coldest window, and says it should not be placed immediately below a power outlet. It must be operated upright only, wheels on the bottom and controls on top; the manual says any other position could create a hazardous situation. Published sizes disagree: De'Longhi's own sheet gives 14 by 6 by 25 inches and 24 pounds, while Amazon's table gives 6.5 deep by 15.5 wide by 27 high and 23.2 pounds. Measure your gap against the larger of the two.
The cord rules here are different from most heaters
Most heater manuals ban extension cords outright. This one does not quite. It says do not use an extension cord because it may overheat and cause a risk of fire, but adds that if you have to use one it must be No. 14 AWG minimum, rated not less than 1,875 watts, and used only to supply this heater. That is a narrow exception, not permission for a household extension lead or a power strip.
The manual is firmer about circuits. To prevent overload and blown fuses, no other appliance should be plugged into the same outlet or into another outlet wired into the same circuit. Connect only to a properly polarized 120-volt AC household outlet in good condition, and keep loose clothing, bedding, furniture and flammable material away from the wall outlet the heater is using.
It also says it is normal for the plug and cord to feel warm, but a plug or cord that becomes hot to the touch or distorted points to a worn outlet that should be replaced first. Do not run the cord under carpeting or cover it with throw rugs or runners. Always unplug the heater when it is not in use.
The overheat cut-off is not something you reset yourself
The manual describes one safety device: it switches the heater off in the event of overheating. The instruction that follows is the important one. To restart the heater, call the nearest service centre. There is no unplug-and-wait reset here, unlike many fan heaters, so an overheat trip means a phone call rather than a ten-minute pause.
Neither De'Longhi document we read claims tip-over protection for this model, and the listing does not name one either. What the manual does say is that if the heater has leaked any oil you must stop using it and contact the service centre, and that repairs, cord replacement and anything beyond wiping it down belong to De'Longhi or a similarly qualified person.
The antifreeze setting is a genuinely useful feature and its number is disputed. Turn the dial to the snowflake position with the switches on and the manual says the appliance holds a minimum room temperature of approximately 42 degrees Fahrenheit (5 degrees Celsius). Amazon's description and its details table both say 44 degrees Fahrenheit. Treat the manual's 42 as the maker's engineering figure and the listing's 44 as marketing copy, and do not rely on either to protect pipes without your own thermometer.
First run, upkeep, and a warranty that does not match the listing
Before the first proper use, the manual says to run the radiator at full power for about two hours to clear the manufacturing smell, with the room well ventilated, and warns that small cracking sounds on first start-up are normal. It also asks you to check that no polystyrene or other packing material is stuck between the fins, and says a vacuum cleaner may be needed.
Upkeep after that is minimal. Unplug the heater and let it cool, then wipe it with a soft damp cloth. Do not use detergents or abrasives. If it is going into storage for a while, wind the cable onto its holder and keep it somewhere dry. There is no filter and nothing to replace.
The warranty is where the sources disagree most sharply. Amazon's details table says three years. The limited warranty printed in De'Longhi's own manual says the coverage runs one year from the purchase date on your receipt and applies only to the original purchaser, covers defects in material and workmanship, and is limited to repair at De'Longhi's factory or an authorized service centre. It excludes abuse, misuse, negligence, accidents and any repair or alteration made outside those centres, and a returned unit must be sent transportation prepaid. Get the written warranty terms for the offer you buy before assuming three years.
