What this kit is: the E340 plus a second battery

This listing is eufy's Video Doorbell E340, model T8214, sold with an extra quick-release rechargeable battery pack, so the box holds two packs. The doorbell is the dual-camera model: eufy's page says the front camera focuses on people while a downward-facing camera shows the floor in front of your door.

eufy's battery pack page gives the spare as 6,500 mAh, charged over USB-C, and says it works with the Video Doorbell C31, C30 and E340. The bundle page says a pack fully charges in 5 hours and suggests keeping a spare so the doorbell is not out of action while one charges. That swap is the point of this kit.

The user guide describes the swap. The doorbell comes off its bracket with the detaching pin, and the battery sits in a compartment on the back. The guide itself adds: "You can purchase an extra battery pack for quick replacement." This kit simply includes it.

Battery life: what eufy states and what it does not

eufy's battery pack page says up to 6 months of use from a single charge. The bundle page and the user guide do not give a separate battery-life figure for the doorbell itself. The listing's details show 6,500 mAh, matching eufy's pack page.

The user guide asks you to remove the pre-installed pack and charge it fully before installing the doorbell. With two packs, you can charge both at the start, and keep one ready indoors. Neither eufy page states how long the spare holds its charge in storage, so check it before you need it.

If you would rather not swap batteries at all, the wired option in the next section tops the battery up from doorbell wiring. The eufy FAQ is clear that the battery stays in the doorbell even in that mode, so the second pack in this kit is then a spare rather than part of a routine.

Wired mode: the battery still has to be fitted

The two eufy documents describe wired mode differently. The user guide's power-option page says that with existing, working doorbell wires the doorbell "will be constantly powered by these wires" with no need to detach and recharge. eufy's bundle page instead says wired mode is also powered by the battery, which the wired supply tops up.

eufy's FAQ settles one part: you cannot remove the battery in wired mode, because the doorbell is powered by it and it must be installed. The bundle page also gives the wired requirement as 8 to 24V at more than 10VA. Amazon's details list the wired input as 16-24V, which does not match, so check your transformer against eufy's figure.

We are not reproducing the wiring steps. The guide says to check the old doorbell rings first, shut off power at the breaker, and have a qualified electrician do it if you are not comfortable. The guide mentions extension wires and wire nuts for short wires; follow the guide itself, or an electrician, for the connections.

Chimes: which ones pair, and a conflict to note

eufy's bundle page lists the chime options: your existing mechanical chime, eufy HomeBase S280 or S380 (the S380 needs firmware V3.3.2.6 or later), the eufy Minibase Chime T8023, Alexa devices and Google voice assistant devices. It also states that the E340 is not compatible with the original eufy Wi-Fi Chime T8020 or the eufy Chime T8740 and T8742.

The user guide's overview lists a traditional chime, "a eufy Security doorbell chime (sold separately)" and an Alexa Echo Show. Given the bundle page's exclusions, do not assume any eufy chime will pair: check the model number against the T8023 named on eufy's page. The listing also names a T8024 Minibase Chime, which eufy's page does not.

A HomeBase is optional. The guide says the doorbell works on its own once connected to your router, and that a HomeBase 2 or S380 can be added for storage. eufy's FAQ says the E340 connects on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only and does not support Apple HomeKit.

Cameras, night vision and storage

eufy's page describes 2K video and colour night vision using a dual-light system, with a clear night viewing distance of up to 16 feet (5 m). The guide warns that if a side wall is in the field of view, infrared light reflects off it and blurs night vision, so keep walls out of frame when choosing the spot.

Storage is 8 GB of eMMC on the doorbell, with no subscription. eufy's FAQ says that holds 90 days of video, based on an average of 30 recordings of 20 seconds each per day, so the estimate holds only for that recording pattern. The comparison table lists human detection, package detection and face recognition AI.

Two footnotes on eufy's page are worth reading before you rely on local storage: push notifications with thumbnail previews need those thumbnails stored temporarily in the cloud, and choosing cloud features sends videos or thumbnails to the cloud as needed. eufy rates the doorbell IP65.

Mounting and what we could not confirm

The guide recommends a mounting height of 48 inches (1.2 m) and supplies a 15 degree wedge for angling the view. On hard walls it calls for a 15/64 inch (5.95 mm) drill bit, and the detaching pin is used to remove the doorbell later.

The guide notes the mounting position is limited in wired mode, since the doorbell has to sit where the wires are. The SYNC button on the back turns the doorbell on, and a quick five presses within three seconds turns it off.

We did not read eufy's warranty terms, and neither eufy page read for this guide states a warranty length for the E340 or the battery pack. Check the warranty with eufy or the seller before you buy, and keep your order details, because this kit combines a doorbell and a separately listed battery pack.
