What the C31 is, and what this listing includes
The eufy Video Doorbell C31, model T8223, is a 2K doorbell that runs on a removable 6,500 mAh quick-release battery or on existing doorbell wiring. This listing is the doorbell on its own: the variant is Battery/Wired, 2K, and nothing in the listing adds a chime. The guide attached to the listing covers the C31 with Chime bundle, so expect its chime steps not to apply.
The guide's parts list for the doorbell is the C31, a mounting bracket, a screw hole positioning card and a screw pack, plus an optional 15 degree wedge, extension wires and jumpers for an existing chime. For charging it lists the battery pack, a USB-C charging cable and a detaching pin. You supply a Phillips screwdriver and a drill with a 15/64 inch bit.
eufy's page says the C31 pairs with an existing chime, eufy HomeBase S280 or S380, the eufy MiniBase Chime T8023, Alexa and Google Assistant. It is not compatible with the original eufy Wi-Fi Chime T8020, the eufy Chime T8740 or T8742, or Apple HomeKit. Check the chime model number before you buy one to go with it.
Battery or wired: what each gives you
The guide sets out the trade-off plainly. On battery, installation is three steps with no wiring, but you recharge the pack; the battery comes out after releasing the doorbell with the detaching pin, and charges through a USB-C port. On wiring, you get continuous power, 24/7 recording and a five-second pre-roll before motion events.
eufy's FAQ adds the condition that matters: 24/7 recording and pre-record work when the doorbell is powered by a 16-24V, 30VA transformer, and your existing chime must be bypassed to enable them. The listing adds that the battery must stay inserted when wiring, and says to turn off power at the breaker before replacing the battery or installing an SD card.
So a wired C31 with 24/7 recording means your old indoor chime stops ringing. The guide says so directly: once the supplied jumper is in place, the existing chime will not sound. To hear rings indoors after that, you would pair a supported chime, a HomeBase or a smart speaker from eufy's list.
The chime jumper: leave it to the manual or an electrician
The guide's optional section for 24/7 recording says the doorbell needs sufficient power, and walks through bypassing your existing chime with the provided jumper. We are not reproducing those steps. It means working on your home's doorbell circuit, and the guide itself says to have a qualified electrician do it if you are not comfortable.
Before any wired installation, the guide asks you to ring the existing doorbell to confirm the wiring works and to shut off power at the breaker. Extension wires and wire nuts are supplied for short existing wires; follow the guide itself, or an electrician, for the connections.
If you do not know your transformer's rating, find out before choosing wired mode. eufy's figure for 24/7 recording is 16-24V at 30VA; the guide itself gives no transformer rating, and the listing does not either. A transformer that falls short of eufy's figure is a job for an electrician, not a reason to skip the check.
Video, view shape and night vision
eufy's page and the listing call the video 2K. The listing's bullet and eufy's own bullet both describe a 4:3 view, but the feature panel lower on the same eufy page says "2K resolution, 16:9 extended view". We cannot tell which is right from what we read; check the live view in the app before drilling.
The guide warns that if a side wall is within the field of view, infrared light reflects off it and blurs night vision, so keep walls out of frame. It recommends a mounting height of 48 inches (1.2 m), and supplies the 15 degree wedge for angling the view.
Detection is listed on eufy's comparison table as human and motion. The listing's details also show an effective still resolution of 1080 pixels, which does not match the 2K figure elsewhere; neither eufy document read gives a still-image resolution.
Storage, video calls and HomeBase
Local storage is a microSD card of up to 128 GB, not included, with no monthly fee; the slot sits under a silicone lid on the doorbell. eufy's page says pairing with a HomeBase S380, sold separately, extends storage up to 16TB, and two footnotes explain that thumbnail notifications and cloud features send images or video to the cloud as needed.
When someone rings, a pop-up video call appears on your phone, and you can set quick responses or ask visitors to leave voice messages. eufy's page notes that the video call currently works only when the doorbell is used on its own; it says support through HomeBase 3 was expected later, without a year.
eufy's FAQ also says the C31 needs eufy app version 4.9.3 or later. The guide lists the T8223 on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, so make sure that band reaches your front door before installing.
Weather, temperature and what we could not confirm
eufy's page rates the C31 at IP65 and for operation from -4 to 122 F (-20 to 50 C). The guide gives the same doorbell range and adds that charging should happen between 0 and 40 C, so plan to charge the pack indoors when it is colder than that outside.
The guide carries battery and safety warnings that we have not repeated here. Read them in the guide itself before you charge, swap or store the battery pack.
Neither the guide nor eufy's page read for this article states a warranty term. The listing gives a weight of 14 ounces, which we could not confirm in a eufy document, so treat it as a listing figure.
