Fit and limits

Strengths

  • HON publishes exact seat, arm and back measurements for this chair size
  • Seven separate controls, including a seat glide and a sliding lumbar support
  • The full warranty document is attached to the listing and names each tier

Caveats

  • Neither Amazon model code appears anywhere on hon.com, so the exact build is unconfirmed
  • HON lists 49 pounds net while the Amazon table says 24 pounds, unexplained
  • HON's black mesh back mid-back code has no lumbar, yet the listing claims adjustable lumbar

A mid-back mesh chair from HON's Ignition 2.0 office line

Amazon's detail table gives this chair the set name HON Ignition 2.0 Mid Back Task Chair, a mesh mid back, a fabric seat, knife-edge cushion and a style name of black frame with advanced tilt. The documents attached to the listing are HON's own: an Ignition 2.0 functionality guide, an Ignition KD installation sheet and HON's warranty booklet.

HON's own pages for black-frame Ignition 2.0 mid-back chairs describe a four-way stretch mesh back, a fabric seat, an advanced synchro-tilt control and height- and width-adjustable arms. KD in the installation sheet means knocked down, so the chair arrives in pieces and you build it before first use.

The measurements that decide whether it fits your desk

HON's specification panel for the black-frame mid-back chairs lists a seat height of 17 to 21 inches, a seat depth adjustable from 16 to 19 inches, a usable seat depth of 19 inches, a back 19 inches wide and 29 inches tall measured from the seat, and a maximum back height of 45 inches from the floor.

The arms sit between 17.84 and 20.41 inches apart with a maximum arm height of 11 inches above the seat. Overall the chair is given as 27 inches wide and 28.5 inches deep, with an overall height between 39.5 and 43.75 inches, and Amazon's table repeats 28.5 by 27 by 43.75 inches.

The base carries five casters of two inches on black plastic. Amazon's item details list a surface recommendation of hard floor, while neither HON page we read names a floor type or offers a carpet caster option for this build, so ask HON or the seller before assuming the wheels suit a thick rug.

Seven controls, and HON's guide explains each one separately

The Ignition 2.0 functionality guide describes arm height by a button under the arm rest, arm width by a lever pressed back horizontally, seat height by a lever, a seat glide that slides the seat forward and back for leg length, tilt tension by a knob, a tilt lock knob that locks the back in several positions or releases it to recline freely, and a lumbar support that slides up and down.

That same one-page guide carries two cautions that matter before you buy. It says a chair may not include every feature shown, and it states that the chair is warranted for users up to 300 pounds. Read the feature list as the range available across the Ignition 2.0 family rather than a promise about this particular build.

The listing's model codes do not appear in HON's own documents

Amazon's item details give Model Number HONI2MM2AMC10BT and Manufacturer Part Number HONI2M2AMLC10TK for the same chair, and those two strings are not the same. HON's catalogue uses a different code format entirely, such as HIWMMKD.Y2.A.H.IC.CU10.AL.SB.T, and a site search of hon.com for either Amazon code returned no documents at all.

This is not a small detail, because HON's black-frame mid-back chairs differ in lumbar support. The page for the black mesh back build carries an NL code and its description does not mention lumbar, while the charcoal mesh back build with the AL code explicitly describes adjustable lumbar support. Both pages list identical seat, arm and back measurements.

The Amazon listing and its comparison chart both claim adjustable lumbar. Because no maker document ties either Amazon code to a specific HON build, confirm with HON or the seller which configuration ships before you rely on a lumbar slider being present, and report what arrives if it does not match.

Weight and assembly: two very different numbers

HON's specification panel gives a net weight of 49 pounds for these chairs. Amazon's measurements table says the item weighs 24 pounds. Neither document explains the gap, so do not use either figure to plan carrying the carton upstairs on your own; ask the seller for the packed shipping weight instead.

The Ignition KD installation sheet opens with a warning, in English, French and Spanish, that failing to assemble the product as instructed could cause property damage or serious bodily injury, and it asks you to read every instruction and review every illustration first. It lists the included hardware and the tools required before step one.

HON's page for this configuration calls the assembly very easy, which is the maker's description rather than a measured figure. HON also records this chair as warranted for 24-hour, seven-day use, which is a durability rating for shift work rather than a comfort claim.

The warranty is lifetime on the chair but tiered by component

The listing-supplied HON Full Lifetime Warranty covers HON product manufactured after 1 January 2011 against defective material or workmanship for the life of the product under normal workplace use. HON promises to repair first, to replace with comparable product if repair is not possible, or to refund the purchase price if you prefer.

Components are carved out into shorter tiers. Seating controls sit in HON's full 12-year tier, alongside seating ilira-stretch material, accessories and laminate surfaces. Panel and seating textiles sit in the five-year tier. So the mechanism under the seat and the fabric on top of it carry shorter terms than the frame.

Exclusions include normal wear and tear, damage caused by cleaning chemicals, products used for rental, unapproved modifications, and products not installed, used or maintained according to HON's instructions. Claims run through a HON dealer. The document itself notes that manufacturers' warranties may not apply in all cases depending on where and from whom the product was bought, so check the seller of the offer you select.
