Kasa Smart Video Doorbell KD110, hardwired, with plug-in chime

What is in the box

The KD110 is a two-part product: a wired video doorbell and a plug-in indoor chime. TP-Link's user guide describes the Kasa Smart Doorbell as made up of a Chime and a Doorbell, and its FCC statement gives the chime its own model number, KD110C. The listing says the chime plugs into a standard wall outlet.

TP-Link's datasheet lists the doorbell, chime, positioning card, mounting bracket, 15 degree mounting wedge, mounting template, two extension wires, two wire nuts, two jumpers for existing chime, two screws and anchors, a quick start guide and a doorbell detaching pin. The listing's list matches except that it omits the mounting template.

Power: hardwire only, 16 to 24 volts

There is no battery. The datasheet gives the power source as hardwire only, with an input of 16 to 24VAC at 10VA minimum; typical doorbell consumption is 2.5W and maximum 4.5W. The listing's bullet repeats that the unit is hardwired and uses Wi-Fi to send video.

The user guide's safety section covers cutting power before installation, electrical codes and when to use a qualified electrician; read it in full, or hire an electrician, before any wiring. The quick start card itself only points to the Kasa app for installation steps.

The box includes two jumpers for existing chime, but neither the datasheet nor the user guide pages we read explain what they do or whether your existing wired chime keeps ringing. The provided plug-in chime is the indoor alert TP-Link describes, so check the app's install steps before assuming your old chime will sound.

The plug-in chime

The chime has a system LED, a sync button, a music button that cycles ringtones and a volume button, per the user guide. Holding sync for three seconds puts it in pairing mode, and pairing is also done from the doorbell's settings in the Kasa app.

The user guide lists the chime's operating temperature as 32 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit, against -4 to 113 degrees for the doorbell. Place the chime somewhere that stays within its range. A Do Not Disturb schedule in the app stops the doorbell ringing and silences push notifications.

microSD: 128GB or 256GB depends on the version

The listing says microSD cards up to 256GB, and adds that Version 1 only supports 128GB. The user guide, dated 2022, says 8 to 128GB. TP-Link's datasheet for hardware versions 3.0 and 4.0 says up to 256GB. The documents do not tell you which hardware version you will receive, so a card of 128GB or less is the size every source supports. The card is not included.

With a card in, the user guide says 24/7 Recording can be enabled so the doorbell records every minute of every day. The datasheet adds pre-roll of 3 to 5 seconds before motion alerts. The guide says you remove two screws on the back of the doorbell to insert the card, so fit it before mounting.

Video, detection and Wi-Fi

TP-Link's datasheet gives 2K 3MP at 2304 by 1296, 15 frames per second, a 160 degree diagonal view, 10x digital zoom, a 1/2.8 inch sensor and 850nm infrared night vision to 30 feet. Detection covers motion, person and audio, with activity zones. Snapshots in notifications need Kasa Care.

Wi-Fi is 2.4 GHz 802.11 b/g/n only, with WPA3 support. The datasheet lists Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa integration, and the listing adds video on Echo Show or Chromecast. Kasa Care is the cloud subscription, and the datasheet marks cloud storage and notification snapshots as Kasa Care features.

Weather, size and warranty

The datasheet and user guide give an IP64 rating, and the listing agrees. The doorbell operates from -4 to 113 degrees Fahrenheit and measures 1.78 by 1.08 by 5.12 inches; the chime is 1.71 by 1.85 by 2.87 inches.

The user guide documents two reset timings: the appearance page says 3 seconds to reset Wi-Fi, and the reset page says 5 seconds, with 15 seconds for a factory reset in both. The listing states a two-year manufacturer warranty; neither TP-Link document we read states a warranty term.
