A 23-inch tower that arrives assembled, with no remote

Lasko model 5775 is a 1500-watt ceramic tower heater that comes fully assembled, according to both the listing and Lasko's own page. The manual's first operating step is simply to take it out of the bag and carton and stand it on a firm, level surface. There is no base to screw on and no batteries to buy.

There is also no remote. Lasko's page lists the accessories as the tower heater and user manual, and marks the model as having no remote; the listing's included-components field says heater and instruction manual. Every setting is changed with the buttons on the heater itself.

Lasko's specifications give 22.5 inches tall, 7.25 inches deep, 7.13 inches wide and 6.08 pounds. The listing's details table has the same weight but lists the dimensions as 23.5 by 8.5 by 7.5 inches, labelled depth, width and height. Neither source says how its figures were measured.

One button cycles High, Low and Off

The manual describes a simple control scheme. The first press of the power button starts the heater on High at 1500 watts with the temperature setting on MAX. A second press drops it to Low, and a third press switches it off. A red light stays lit for as long as the heater is plugged in, even when it is off.

The manual does not give a wattage for Low. Lasko's page states an energy output range of 900 to 1500 watts and a current draw of 7.5 to 12.5 amps, and the listing's table gives 12.5 amps at 120 volts. The manual also warns that the wire mesh grill is hot while the heater runs, separately from the cool-touch housing Lasko advertises.

Oscillation has its own button. The manual says oscillation stops when the room reaches the chosen temperature setting, so the heater will not always be turning while it is switched on.

The thermostat only runs on High, and MAX means no thermostat

The temperature button steps through a row of lit settings. The light under the chosen setting keeps blinking until the room reaches it. The setting values are printed on a figure in the manual rather than in its text, so we do not quote them here; check the control panel on the unit itself.

Two rules in the manual shape how the thermostat behaves. First, the temperature function only runs on High heat, so Low always runs without a set point. Second, on the MAX setting the heater runs continuously and does not cycle off for room temperature at all.

The listing's details table gives a maximum temperature setting of 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Neither the manual text nor Lasko's page states that figure, so treat it as listing data until you see the panel. If the heater stops unexpectedly, the manual's troubleshooting checks cover the outlet and whether the room has reached the temperature you set.

A timer from one to seven hours, and what it does on MAX

The manual says each press of the auto-off timer button adds time in combinations of one, two and four hours, up to a maximum of seven; holding the button down sets seven hours. When the time runs out the heater switches itself off.

The manual adds a specific note that the timer still shuts the heater off when the temperature button is on MAX. Lasko's page lists the timer as up to seven hours and also ticks an auto shut-off feature; the only automatic switch-offs the manual describes are this timer and the overheat protection.

For overheating, the manual describes a built-in thermal overload protector that switches the heater off automatically. It has to be reset by hand, and the manual gives the reset procedure; read it before first use. Neither Lasko's page nor the manual mentions a tip-over switch on this model, so do not assume one.

Clearance, a wall outlet and nothing else on the circuit

Both manual revisions ask for combustible materials to be kept at least three feet (0.9 m) from the front and one foot (0.3 m) from the sides and rear. The heater must stand on a stable, flat, level surface and not on soft surfaces.

Plug it directly into a 120-volt wall outlet. The manuals rule out extension cords, power strips, surge protectors, multiple outlet adapters, cord reels and outlet-type air fresheners, and ask you to check that the plug fits tightly. The newer revision D manual adds a line the older one lacks: do not plug multiple devices into the same outlet or onto the same circuit as the heater.

It is not for bathrooms, laundry areas or other damp spaces, outdoors, areas with flammables, agricultural buildings or hazardous locations, and it is sold as supplemental heat for residential use only. The manual also cautions that the feet may stick to or stain wood furniture and hardwood floors.

Two-weekly vacuuming, colour labels and the warranty terms

Maintenance is limited to dust. The manual asks for the intake grills to be vacuumed every two weeks, rules out solvents, immersion and taking the heater apart, and sends all other servicing to an authorised service representative.

The warranty in both manuals is three years from the original purchase, for the original purchaser only, ending early if that buyer sells or transfers the heater, and valid in the USA, its territories and Canada. You need proof of purchase and a Return Authorization from Lasko before sending it back, at your own shipping cost; commercial or non-residential use, misuse and unauthorised repairs are excluded.

One labelling point to check at checkout: the listing's title says White while its colour field says Silver 5775, and Lasko's page shows the model in White. The listing also calls the heat output 5,118 BTU, a figure that appears in neither Lasko document we read.
