What the XPS01PTJ kit includes
Makita's includes list names the XPS01Z saw, two 18V LXT 5.0Ah batteries (BL1850B), a DC18RD dual port charger, a 55-tooth cordless plunge saw blade (B-57071), a hex wrench and two MAKPAC cases, X-Large and Medium. No guide rail is listed; Makita says the rail is sold separately.
The Amazon listing's title mentions Makita's 199140-0 39 inch guide rail and then says sold separately in brackets, so read it as a compatible rail, not a rail in the box. Makita lists 118 in. and 55 in. rails, a clamp set and a rip fence as optional, and says the saw works with other makers' guide rails.
Two batteries at once, and what the protection does
The saw runs on two 18V LXT batteries together; the manual gives a rated voltage of 36 V DC and lists compatible packs from BL1815N to BL1860B. Makita claims up to 125 cuts per charge in 4x8 sheets of 1/2 in. plywood with two 5.0Ah batteries and a 45-minute charge for each pack.
The manual describes overload, overheat and overdischarge protection that stop the tool. In an overheat stop, the battery indicator blinks for about 60 seconds. A check button shows each battery's remaining charge in three bands, and Makita says the tool also takes LXT batteries marked with a star.
Cut depth, bevel and speed
Makita gives 2-3/16 in. of depth at 90 degrees and 1-9/16 in. at 45, and the manual adds 1-1/2 in. at 48 degrees. The bevel runs from -1 to 48 degrees with positive stops at 22.5 and 45.
A five-step dial sets 2,500, 2,900, 3,900, 4,900 or 6,300 rpm, per the manual. Automatic Speed Change switches between a high speed mode and a high torque mode under load, and a mode indicator lights green in high torque mode and blinks green as an overload alert. The manual also lists an electric blade brake.
Using it with a rail
The manual's quick stop button sets a 2 to 3 mm first pass on a guide rail to limit splintering before the full cut. Makita's page lists a slide lever on the base that engages the rail when bevel cutting, and close-to-wall cutting of 11/16 in.
The manual gives a net weight of 9.8 to 11.2 lbs depending on the battery fitted, and Makita's page lists 11.2 lbs with batteries. The overall length is 13-5/8 in. A 1-7/16 in. rear dust port connects to a vacuum, per Makita's page.
Warranty: page and manual disagree
Makita's page lists a 3-year limited warranty on the tool, batteries and charger. The manual's warranty section instead prints Makita's one-year limited warranty from the date of original purchase, with the complete tool returned freight prepaid to a Makita factory or authorized service center.
The manual's exclusions are repairs attempted by others, normal wear and tear, abuse, misuse, improper maintenance and alterations. Since the two Makita documents give different terms, ask Makita which applies before you count on the longer one.
