What the kit includes

Metabo HPT's includes list names an 18V 2.0Ah battery with fuel gauge, a UC18YFSL charger, a no-mar nose cap, a carrying bag and safety glasses. The manual's standard accessories list nose caps, one mounted on the tool, and a battery cover. The Amazon listing's model field reads NT1865DAA.

Metabo HPT says it takes its 18V batteries or its MultiVolt battery, which powers both 18V and 36V tools. The manual gives about 30 minutes to charge the included BSL1820M battery at 68 degrees F, and says to use only Metabo HPT batteries.

Angled nails, despite one line

The manual's nail table lists 15-gauge finish nails at a 34 degree angle, 1-1/4 to 2-1/2 in. long, and Metabo HPT's table gives a 34 degree magazine holding 100 nails. One line of Metabo HPT's feature list calls them straight finish nails; the manual and the model name say angled, so buy 34 degree angled 15-gauge nails.

The manual names trim around doors and windows, edgings, drawer bottoms, cases and cabinets as jobs, and Metabo HPT adds stair treads, risers and exterior trim. It claims the nailer flush-drives nails in hardwood and fiber cement trim 30% more than its NT1865DMAS; that is the maker's comparison.

Firing modes and controls

The nailer starts in full sequential mode each time it is switched on, shown by a steady blue light, and each press of the mode switch moves it between sequential and contact firing, shown by a blinking blue light. The manual says to lock the trigger whenever you are not firing nails.

Depth adjusts without tools, and the LED lights the tip of the tool whenever the power is on. Metabo HPT lists a dry-fire lockout and a belt hook, and claims up to 3 nails per second; the manual's cycle rate is 3.0 nails per second in intermittent firing.

Weight, battery life and temperature

Metabo HPT gives 5.9 lbs without the battery; the manual gives 6.8 lbs with the BSL1820M battery fitted. Metabo HPT rates it at 700 nails per charge with the included 2.0Ah battery.

The manual gives an operating range of 32 to 104 degrees F and says the tool may fail to operate outside it. When the tool is below 23 degrees F or too hot, the indicator and LED blink and the power turns off after 10 seconds until it warms up or cools down.

Nails, protection and warranty

The manual says to use only genuine Metabo HPT nails, warning that other nails can cause malfunction or nail breakdown, and asks for ear and head protection whenever you use the nailer.

Metabo HPT's page lists its Lifetime Lithium-Ion Tool Warranty, a 2-year battery warranty and a 1-year charger warranty. It bills the NT1865DAA as its next-generation 15-gauge nailer, 13% lighter and smaller; that is the maker's claim.
