PETKIT PuraMax 2 Self-Cleaning Cat Litter Box (P9902)

What arrives, and where the accessories are hidden

Amazon lists this as the PETKIT PuraMax 2 in white, model number P9902 with manufacturer part number T4-2-A-N50. PETKIT's manual for this model carries the same P9902 number and the T4-2 file name, so the listing and the maker's document match. The basic bundle on the listing is the litter box, an N50 2.0 odor eliminator, a roll of twenty trash bags, a litter sifter, a magnetic litter remover, decorative stickers, a quick start guide, a user manual and a US adapter.

One detail is easy to miss and the listing says it outright: the accessories are packed inside the waste bin, so you have to slide the latch and pull the bin out to find them. The manual's installation section starts the same way, then has you fit a trash bag in the bin, press the N50 into its basket, lock the bin back in and plug the adapter into the port on the back.

The manual's package list also shows a Honeycomb Fine Litter Sifter alongside the standard one, and explains the difference: the standard sifter is for tofu and mixed litter, the honeycomb fine sifter for mineral litter. The listing's bundle text just says "cat litter sifter", so check which sifter is in the box against the litter you plan to use. A PETKIT Air Purifier Smart Spray is listed in the manual as premium-package only, and the listing adds that this version is not compatible with the K3 Smart Spray.

Cat weight and age: read all three numbers before you buy

This is the decision fact, and the documents do not all say the same thing, so here is each one exactly. The manual's Safety Guide says: "Cats younger than six months are not recommended to use this product. Cats weighing less than 1.5 kg are not recommended to use this product." The manual's specification table lists Scope of Application as "Cats older than 6 months" and does not print a maximum cat weight.

The FAQ sheet supplied with the listing answers "Is there a weight limit for PuraMax 2?" with "We recommend a minimum weight of 1.5 kg (3.3 lbs) and a maximum weight of 10 kg (22 lbs)", and its kitten answer repeats the 1.5 kg (3.3 lbs) floor. But the same FAQ's troubleshooting item, on why the box does not clean after a cat uses it, tells you to "make sure ... your cat is over 3.5 lbs". So PETKIT's own sheet prints 3.3 lb in one answer and 3.5 lb in another. The Amazon bullet says the interior accommodates cats weighing between 3.3 and 22 lbs and repeats "do not use for young pets under 6 months". Weigh your cat and ask PETKIT support directly if it sits near either end.

For households that mix ages, both the FAQ and the manual describe the same setting. The manual calls it Kitten Mode and says to turn it on if you have kittens or pregnant cats at home; when it is on, auto-cleaning and periodical cleaning are disabled and you press "Clean now" yourself. The FAQ calls the same thing Kitten Protection Mode. Either way, with a kitten in the house this is not a hands-off box.

Hard floor, no carpet, and a wall gap nobody agrees on

Placement is constrained in three documents and they give three different gaps. The manual's Safety Guide says to place the device on a hard, flat surface and avoid touching the wall. The FAQ's placement answer says to "maintain a distance of at least 5 cm (1.97 in) from walls". The FAQ's troubleshooting answer, a page later, says "please do not place the device close to wall, at least 10cm far away". We cannot tell you which figure PETKIT intends. Allow the largest of them, about 10 cm or four inches, and confirm with PETKIT support if your alcove is tight.

Carpet is ruled out rather than discouraged. The listing's closing bullet says do not place the device on carpets or mats because it may interfere with the sensors and cause malfunctions, and the FAQ repeats it as a troubleshooting step. The manual adds that there are weight sensors at the bottom of the device and asks you to handle it gently, to keep it out of high-temperature and high-humidity places, to use it indoors only, to avoid direct sunlight and flame, and not to tilt it or put anything on top of it.

Sizes differ slightly between documents. The manual's specification table gives 620 x 538 x 552 mm, which it converts to 24.41 x 21.18 x 21.73 inches, and about 10 kg (22 lb). Amazon's table says 24.21"L x 21.96"W x 21.96"H and 22 pounds. Those are close but not identical, so measure to the larger figure. The 7.87-inch low entrance and the 76 L interior figure appear in Amazon's copy and not in the manual pages we read, so treat them as listing data.

Litter type and particle size are both restricted

The listing says the box is compatible with all kinds of clumping litter. The maker's documents are narrower than that in two ways. The FAQ names the compatible types as clay litter, tofu litter and mixed litter, and asks you to use clumping litter measuring 3 x 13 mm, three millimetres in diameter and thirteen in length. The manual's add-litter step instead says: "Do not use large particles of cat litter larger than 1.2cm in length and 3mm in diameter." That is 12 mm against the FAQ's 13 mm. Check the grain size on the bag you buy, and do not assume a coarse litter will pass.

Filling is done through the Maintenance Mode function: press the menu button to Maintenance Mode, press OK, let the cylinder rotate until its opening faces up, pour litter in without going past the MAX line on the litter pad, press OK to exit, then double-press OK so the device levels the litter. The FAQ's troubleshooting list treats that double-press calibration as a required step, so skipping it is one of the maker's own explanations for a box that will not clean.

The FAQ also addresses two mess problems in the maker's own words. For streaking on the cylinder it recommends fast, tight-clumping litter rather than slow-clumping litter, and a Waste Covering Mode in the app. For urine leakage it points to clumping speed, a longer wait before cleaning, where the cat urinates, and whether the inner mat is damaged or has a gap. We are reporting that these answers exist; we have not tested any of them.

The cleaning routine, and what not to clean it with

The manual has a maintenance table that names each part, when to clean it, how, and when to replace it. The cylinder is cleaned with a brush and dried when the inner surface is dirty. The litter sifter is brushed and dried, and replaced when bent or damaged. The cat litter pad is wiped with a soft cloth or paper towel and clean water, explicitly not scrubbed, and replaced when litter sticks to it severely or it is broken. The base of the main unit is wiped with a damp paper towel after the cylinder is off, and the proximity sensor is wiped with a soft cloth when its surface is dirty. The N50 odor eliminator is replaced about once a month.

The same table carries a chemical warning in a footnote: avoid cleaning with alcohol, disinfectant, bleach, non-neutral detergent and the like. The Safety Guide adds that the bottom of the device must not be immersed or soaked in water. Follow the manual rather than any general cleaning habit, and do not substitute a disinfectant of your own choosing.

Emptying is less automatic than the marketing implies. The FAQ says the 7 L waste bin supports up to 15 days of free scooping for a single-cat household "based on PETKIT's lab results", and adds that in hot or humid conditions the frequency may vary. The manual's on-screen prompts include "The waste bin is full. Please clean it in time." Before you go away, the Safety Guide asks you to check there is enough litter in the box and enough space in the waste drawer.

Controls, sensors, app, power and the two-year warranty

The unit has an OLED screen with a menu button and an OK button; a long press turns it on or off, short presses move through and run the functions Clean Now, Deodorize, Level Cat Litter, Reset, Configure Network and Maintenance Mode. The screen also shows a child-lock indicator and scrolling prompts, including one for a cat entering while the device is running, one for a cat approaching the detection zone, one for a magnetic side cover that is not closed, one for device failure and one for a full waste bin. The manual's parts diagram names a proximity sensor on the side cover. The listing's claim of seven infrared sensors and four weight sensors is not a figure we found in the manual pages we read, so treat the counts as listing copy.

One app setting deserves a careful read before you enable it. The manual describes Continuous Rotation: "When this function is turned on, the device will not stop working even if it detects a cat approaching." PETKIT's stated reason is to reduce leakage into the bottom of the device when the cylinder opening is face-down. With it off, the device stops when it detects a cat approaching. We are quoting the manual and taking no position on the setting; read that page yourself and decide.

Connectivity is Wi-Fi plus BLE in the manual's specification table, and the listing states 2.4 GHz. Setup runs through the PETKIT app: add the device, switch the screen to Configure Network and press OK. Power is a 12V 2A rated input through an adapter, and the Safety Guide says to use only the original adapter and to unplug the unit if it will be unused for a long period. No battery backup is described in the pages we read.

Amazon's details field says "2 Year Warranty". PETKIT's published Limited Warranty Policy says its standard term is one year, that a 2025 upgrade extended a named list of products to two years, and that the PuraMax 2 is on that list, with the upgrade applying only to units bought on or after 1 January 2025. The policy also says it covers purchases made through petkit.com or authorized distributors within the United States, and that for a product bought through a third-party website or other retail channel, that seller's return and exchange policies apply instead. Remedies are part replacement, product replacement or a full or partial refund at PETKIT's discretion, claims go to [email protected] with proof of purchase and the serial number, and shipping costs for returns fall to either side depending on the defect. Check the seller and the offer you actually select before assuming the two-year term.
