A built-in battery, not a removable pack

The listing gives the generation as Battery Doorbell 2K (2nd Gen), 2026 release, in Speckled Gray, doorbell only, with Matte Mocha and Speckled White also listed. Ring's support page calls the power source an embedded battery, and the listing's bullet says you detach the doorbell from the wall with the included removal tool and recharge the built-in battery via USB-C.

The USB-C cable is not included, according to both the listing and Ring's installation article. Ring's article says to remove a rubber plug to charge the battery and to reinsert the plug afterwards, so keep track of that plug.

Ring's product name changes article says Battery Doorbell (2nd Gen) was renamed Battery Doorbell 2K on August 5, 2026, with no change to hardware, firmware or features.

Charging means taking it down

Ring's charging steps say that a doorbell connected to an existing chime has to be powered down at the breaker, released with the removal tool and disconnected from its wiring before it can be charged. Follow Ring's article for that sequence each time, and expect it to recur whenever the battery runs low on a wired installation.

Neither the listing nor Ring's support page gives a battery life figure. Ring's compatible accessories list includes a Solar Charger, sold separately, but neither document states how much charge it provides.

Wiring it in is optional

Ring's support page gives the requirement for connecting to an existing doorbell system as a hardwired transformer of 8 to 24 VAC, 50/60Hz, 10VA to 40VA. The listing phrases it as only if wiring in, a standard doorbell system with an 8 to 24 VAC, 40VA maximum, 50/60Hz transformer. Ring warns that incompatible power sources can damage the device and cause electric shock.

Ring's installation article covers mounting without an existing chime and over existing doorbell wiring. For the wired path it starts at the breaker, advises an electrician, and says not to wire the doorbell to a DC-powered intercom system. Neither Ring document read states whether your existing chime rings when the doorbell is wired.

Ring's accessory list names its Chime (2nd and 3rd Gen), Chime Pro (2nd and 3rd Gen) and a Din-Rail Transformer (2nd Gen), all sold separately. Ring's page does not say which of them suits a particular home, so check compatibility with Ring before ordering one.

Wi-Fi band, weather rating and temperature conflicts

The listing says WiFi 4, 2.4GHz single band. Ring's support page says dual band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. We cannot tell which is correct for units now shipping, so if your front door only reaches a 5 GHz network, confirm with Ring before buying.

The listing gives operating conditions of -4 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit and says weather resistant, with a note about direct sunlight. Ring's support page gives -4 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit and IP65. Both sources ask for at least 10 Mbps upload for 2K video.

Video and what is in the box

Ring's support page gives 2K QHD at 1920 by 1920 with HDR, head-to-toe video, and a 140 by 140 degree field of view, 173 degrees diagonal. The listing adds up to 6x Enhanced Zoom. Ring's name changes article says the 2K label indicates recording at 2560 by 1440, which is a different figure from the support page; we report both.

The box, per Ring's page, holds the doorbell, a universal mounting plate, a push pin, installation hardware, a quick start guide and a security sticker. The listing's list is similar without the push pin. Wedge and corner kits and a No Drill mount are separate accessories. Size is 2.11 by 5.78 by 1.41 inches in both sources.

Subscription features, warranty and security updates

Ring's support page footnotes Video Descriptions, Single Event Alert, Unusual Event Alert and Video Search as needing a compatible Ring subscription and as unavailable in Illinois; Extended Live View carries a separate footnote. Ring lists Snapshot Capture with a 14-day period, and the listing says motion videos are stored up to 180 days on a subscription.

Ring's page states that this device receives guaranteed software security updates until at least four years after it is last available for purchase as a new unit on Ring's websites. The listing states a one-year limited warranty.
