Two different sizes are published, and only one of them matters at the gate
Travelpro publishes two sets of numbers for this bag and labels them clearly. The case dimensions, meaning the packing body on its own, are 21 by 14 by 9 inches. The overall dimensions, which Travelpro says include the wheels and the carry handles, are 23 inches high by 14.5 inches wide by 9 inches deep.
Amazon's Measurements table repeats only the smaller pair, listing item dimensions as 21 inches long by 14 wide by 9 high. The listing bullet does give both, spelling out that the overall figure includes wheels and handles. If you compare the table number with an airline limit you will be comparing the wrong thing, because the wheels and the top grab handle are part of what a sizer measures.
Use the 23 by 14.5 by 9 inch figure and check it against the carry-on limit your airline publishes for the aircraft you are actually flying. Travelpro states on the product page that the bag is sizer-bin tested for overhead bin space on most major US airlines, and that is the maker's own claim rather than anything verified here.
Weight is the reason this model exists
Travelpro and Amazon both give the weight as 5.4 pounds, and the listing bullet adds that it is half a pound lighter than the Maxlite 4 it replaced. For a wheeled carry-on with four spinner wheels and a telescoping handle, that is a low figure, and it is the single clearest reason to choose this bag over a hardside.
The weight matters most on carriers that cap the weight of a cabin bag rather than only its size. Every pound the empty case saves is a pound you are allowed to fill. It also matters when you are the person lifting the bag into an overhead bin at the end of a long day.
The trade-off is that a soft polyester case gives less impact protection than a moulded shell. Travelpro's own warranty language excludes abrasions, scratches, dents and stains that do not impair the functional performance of the bag, so cosmetic scuffing on a fabric case is something you accept rather than claim for.
What the shell, wheels and handle actually are
This is a softside bag. Amazon's Materials & Care table gives the shell type as soft and the material as mesh and plastic, while both the listing bullets and Travelpro's page describe polyester fabric with a DuraGuard coating that Travelpro says resists water and stains. The listing adds that the interior lining uses recycled plastics and is protected with H2O Guard; Travelpro calls the same lining ECOFAB.
The wheels are four 360-degree spinners, which Amazon's table records as wheel type spinner, number of wheels four. Travelpro describes a bottom tray design under the case, and the listing bullet says that tray is there for durability and stability. Spinner wheels are exposed on all four corners, which is worth knowing because wheels are one of the four parts the warranty specifically covers.
The telescoping handle is Travelpro's PowerScope Lite, and both sources agree that it locks at two heights, 38 inches and 42.5 inches. Travelpro describes a patented Contour Grip with rubberised touch points. Two stops is fewer than some handles offer, so if you are notably tall or short, check those two heights against how you like to walk with a bag.
Capacity, expansion and the packing layout
Volume is 46 litres according to both Travelpro's Dimensions panel and Amazon's Measurements table, and the listing bullet gives the same number. The expansion adds up to two inches of packing depth through a zipper that the listing calls high-tensile-strength, and Travelpro describes the expansion as tapered so that the centre of gravity stays low to help reduce tipping.
Travelpro attaches an explicit caveat to that expansion in its Dimensions panel: a fully expanded carry-on may not meet airline restrictions. Its own FAQ repeats the point and suggests boarding with the bag unexpanded. Treat the two inches as capacity for the journey home or for a segment you are checking, not as everyday carry-on space.
Inside and out, the listing lists two exterior quick-access pockets, a full-length interior lid pocket, a side accessory pocket and adjustable hold-down straps. Amazon's Features & Specs table counts three pockets and one section, so the pocket count depends on whether the interior lid pocket is included. Neither source gives a maximum load in pounds for the bag.
The lock question: the tables and the maker do not agree
Amazon's Features & Specs table for this ASIN lists a lock type of combination lock. Nothing in the five listing bullets mentions a lock, and Travelpro's own product page for SKU 401176101 does not name a built-in or TSA-accepted lock among the features it lists for this bag.
We are not going to guess which document is right. Before you buy this on the assumption that it locks, ask Travelpro directly about SKU 401176101, or plan to add a separate travel lock through the zipper pulls. Both documents were read on the same day and both are current as far as we can tell.
The same caution applies to the other rows in Amazon's table that the maker does not repeat. Where the listing table and Travelpro's page disagree, the sensible order is to trust the maker's page for the item and then confirm anything that will change your decision.
Warranty: lifetime on four parts, one year of airline-damage cover
Travelpro's Maxlite 5 warranty page gives limited lifetime coverage on four named components only: wheels, zippers, extension handles and carrying handles. Coverage runs for the period the product is owned by the original purchaser or gift recipient, proof of purchase is required, and the remedy is repair, or replacement with a product of comparable value if Travelpro decides repair is not feasible.
The exclusions are the part most buyers skip. The warranty does not cover abrasions, scratches, dents or stains that do not impair function, normal wear and tear, damage from abuse, mishandling or accidents, or damage caused by an airline, train service, cruise ship or other common carrier. Incidental and consequential damages, including loss of contents, are also excluded.
Airline damage is instead handled by the separate Trusted Companion Promise, which covers the cost of repair for damage caused by an airline or other common carrier in the country of purchase, plus shipping to a repair facility. Travelpro's duration table gives Maxlite 5 the first year of limited warranty coverage for that promise, and registration within 120 days of delivery is what unlocks the shipping cover. Flight crews get three years rather than lifetime on the main warranty.
