What this listing is, and what it leaves out

The listing gives the model name as WYZEBVD and the model number as MR_BVD. Wyze's product page names the model MR_BVD, and Wyze's store data uses WYZEBVD for the Battery Video Doorbell sold without a chime. This listing is that no-chime configuration.

No chime comes in the box. Wyze's FAQ says the doorbell works with a Wyze Wi-Fi Chime, not included, or with a Wyze Chime Controller, not included, wired to your house mechanical chime. The listing's bullet names the Chime Controller, the Wyze Universal Wi-Fi Chime or a Wyze Cam, all sold separately, as the ways to hear it indoors.

Wyze's box list is the doorbell, a corner back plate, a flat back plate, three wire nuts, a jump wire, three long screws, a USB-C charging cable, two extension wires, three expansion tubes, a detaching pin and quick start guides.

Battery: built in, with two life figures

Wyze's support specs describe a 6400 mAh lithium-ion battery that is non-removable, charged by USB-C in about six hours from empty to full. The USB-C to USB-A cable is included; the 5V 2A adapter is not. The listing's bullet says you charge it by detaching the doorbell and connecting the included cable.

Battery life is stated three ways. The listing and Wyze's product-page spec table say up to 6 months with normal use; Wyze's FAQ says 3 to 6 months; the support article says up to 3 to 6 months. Plan around the lower end of Wyze's own range.

Wiring it in, and 24/7 recording

Wyze's support specs recommend battery power but give a hardwired requirement of 12 to 24V, 50/60Hz AC; the product page's power line also lists 5V/2A DC. Wyze's FAQ says compatible wiring lets the doorbell charge while mounted and adds 3 to 6 seconds of pre-roll video, and that no technician is needed for the hardwired option.

The listing says 24/7 local recording is available when you add a microSD card and hardwire the doorbell. Neither Wyze document read states whether an existing mechanical chime rings when the doorbell is wired directly; Wyze's FAQ names the separately sold Chime Controller as the route to the house chime.

Wyze's FAQ recommends mounting about 4 feet from the ground, and says mounting on a wooden frame takes under a minute. For any wiring work, follow Wyze's quick start guide or an electrician.

Video: 150 or 148 degrees

Resolution is 1536 by 1536 in every source, a square frame for head-to-toe viewing. Field of view differs: the listing and Wyze's product page say 150 by 150 degrees, while Wyze's support specs say 148 horizontal, 148 vertical and 180 diagonal. We report both.

Wyze's support specs add 8x digital zoom, 20 frames per second by day and 15 at night, colour night vision with 850nm infrared lights, simultaneous two-way audio, pre-made responses and a 90 dB siren. Motion detection uses a body heat infrared sensor and an edge algorithm, according to Wyze's FAQ.

Storage, Wi-Fi and phones

The listing and Wyze's product page give microSD up to 256GB, and the listing says FAT32 and exFAT only. Wyze's support specs are more specific: 8 to 32GB cards in FAT32, and up to 256GB in exFAT. The card is sold separately. Cloud storage needs a Wyze subscription, and the listing cites 14 days with Cam Plus.

Wi-Fi is 2.4 GHz. Wyze's support specs list 802.11 b/g/n at 2.4 GHz, lists Wi-Fi 4, 5 and 6, and adds Bluetooth LE 5.0. Phones need Android 10.0 or iOS 16.0 or later. Integrations are Alexa, Google Assistant and IFTTT.

Subscription features, weather and warranty

Wyze's FAQ says Cam Plus adds person, package, vehicle and pet detection and full-length event videos, and that a Cam Plus trial of up to 30 days starts after activation. The listing says the voice deterrence prompt plays when enabled.

Both Wyze documents give IP65 and an operating range of -4 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit. Wyze lists the doorbell at 5.71 by 1.85 by 1.14 inches and 7.58 ounces; the listing gives 5.62 by 2 by 1.38 inches and 12.8 ounces. Wyze's support specs state a one-year warranty.
