A simple electric grinder, not an automatic dose scale
The black Encore ESP ZCG495BLK combines a forty-millimeter M2 conical steel burr with a manual pulse button and on/off knob. Consider it if you want an electric grinder for espresso and filter coffee without a screen or programmable timer. This is the Encore ESP, not the original Encore or an ESP Pro model; those names should not be treated as interchangeable specifications.
The manual says the pulse button runs only while held, while the knob starts and stops continuous grinding. Neither control measures the weight of coffee dispensed. Plan to measure your chosen dose separately if repeatability matters, and do not leave the running grinder unattended. The instructions warn that an overfilled grounds bin can clog the grinder and cause damage.
Forty settings split into two adjustment ranges
Baratza assigns settings one through twenty to smaller espresso adjustments and twenty-one through forty to larger steps for filter-style brewing. That is more informative than simply counting forty positions. It describes how the adjustment system is arranged, not a guarantee that one number produces the correct shot with every bean, basket or espresso machine.
The inspected manual gives an espresso starting point based on a particular medium roast and eighteen-gram dose. Treat its reference settings as starting points and follow your machine's basket requirements. The manual also says to change the grind while the grinder is running or completely empty of beans; read the full operation instructions rather than forcing a loaded adjustment mechanism.
The dosing cup helps with transfer, not automatic weighing
The supplied espresso dosing cup supports a fifty-four-millimeter transfer route and includes a fifty-eight-millimeter adapter. The manual says to remove the adapter for a fifty-four-millimeter portafilter. You grind into the cup and transfer the grounds; this is not a promise that every aftermarket handle locks into a hands-free cradle or that nominal diameter proves compatibility.
Baratza lists a three-hundred-gram bean hopper and a separate one-hundred-twenty-gram grounds bin. Those are different containers, not two descriptions of one dose. An optional single-dose hopper appears on the maker page but should not be assumed to be part of the standard retail kit. Confirm the actual seller's package before buying accessories.
Dry burr care is part of ownership
The quick-release burr system allows access for cleaning, but removable does not mean washable. The manual says not to wash the burrs with water because they can rust. It also excludes the hopper, hopper lid and grounds bin from the dishwasher, calls for hand washing those parts, and prohibits immersing the grinder housing.
Unplug before the specified disassembly and cleaning work, keep track of the small parts, and follow the exact reassembly sequence. This guide does not replace that procedure or promise that cleaning fixes a motor or adjustment fault. Confirm the rating and working space
The current Baratza page lists seventy watts at one hundred to one hundred twenty volts AC, while the exact Amazon technical table lists one hundred fifty watts. We do not silently choose a revision or use that discrepancy as a performance ranking. Check the purchased unit's rating label and regional instructions before use.
Baratza labels the body thirteen centimeters wide, fifteen deep and thirty-four high. The selected retail size text instead gives fourteen and a half by fourteen and a half by thirty-three and a half centimeters. Confirm the assembled unit for a tight gap and allow room to open the hopper, remove the grounds container and clean the burrs. We have not measured noise, retention, grind speed or coffee quality.
