Fit and limits
Strengths
- 24.5 in. of rip in a compact saw
- Power loss reset keeps the saw off after an outage
- Bevel range from -2 to 47 degrees
Caveats
- No stand in the box; the manual says it must be mounted
- Manual says not to use dado sets on this saw
- The 8-1/4 in. blade limits depth to 2-9/16 in.
What is in the box, and the stand you still need
DEWALT's includes list names the saw, a fence, anti-kickback pawls, a miter gauge, a push stick, an 8-1/4 in. blade, a non-through-cut riving knife, two blade-change wrenches and the modular guard system. No stand is listed. The Amazon listing's model field reads DWE7485, without the WS stand suffix.
The manual says the saw must be securely mounted on a stand, workbench or other rigid support so it cannot move or tip, and it has four mounting holes for that. It names compatible stands: DW7440RS, DW7451 and DWE74911. It adds that the DWE74911 fits only when bought separately, because the stand sold with the DWE7491RS lacks the adapter brackets.
Rip, depth and blade
DEWALT's page gives 24.5 in. of rip capacity for ripping 4x8 plywood or OSB sheets. The manual's fence mounts in two right-side positions, 0 to 20 in. and 4 to 24.5 in., plus one on the left. DEWALT's product data separately lists 24.0 in., so the 24.5 in. figure is the one both the page text and the manual print.
The manual's specifications list an 8-1/4 in. (210 mm) blade on a 5/8 in. arbor, a 19 x 19 in. table, 30 degrees of miter left and right, a bevel of -2 to 47 degrees left and 5,800 rpm no-load. Depth is 2-9/16 in. at 0 degrees and 1-3/4 in. at 45. Blades must be rated for at least 6,000 rpm.
What the manual says not to do
The manual's intended-use section says not to use dado sets, multiple blades or shaping cutter heads on this saw, not to plunge or cove cut, and not to make tapered cuts without a taper jig accessory. It also rules out metal, cement board, masonry and wet conditions.
That puts dado and rabbet work with a stacked set off the table for this model. If dados matter to you, compare the DWE7491RS, whose manual does allow 8 in. dado stacks with an insert.
Guards, brake and power-loss reset
DEWALT describes a Site-PRO modular guarding system that adjusts without tools, a rack and pinion fence, a metal roll cage base and onboard storage for the guard, fence, wrenches and miter gauge. The page also lists a blade brake.
The manual's power loss reset switch returns to the off position after a power cut or a breaker trip, so the saw does not restart by itself. DEWALT's page describes the motor as 15 amps, and its product data lists an assembled weight of 55.57 lbs.
Warranty and service
DEWALT's page lists a 3 year limited warranty, 1 year of free service and a 90 day satisfaction guarantee. The manual's Three Year Limited Warranty says DEWALT will repair or replace defects in materials or workmanship for three years from purchase.
The manual's warranty excludes normal wear, tool abuse, accessories and damage where repairs were attempted by others. It is given in place of all other warranties, including implied ones, to the extent state law allows.
