Who makes it, and how the model code matches
The DXAELJ16 carries the DEWALT name, but its manual names Baccus Global LLC of Boca Raton, Florida as the manufacturer and warrantor, and the footer of the dewalt12volt.com site says the DEWALT name and logo are used under license. Baccus Global's own site describes licensing partnerships with DeWalt, Stanley and Black & Decker and links to the DEWALT 12V site.
The code matches cleanly. DXAELJ16 is printed on the maker's product page, on the manual cover, which calls it a lithium automotive jump starter with USB power bank, and in Amazon's title, model and part-number fields. The maker's jump starters page lists it with the lithium models.
What 1600 amps covers, per DEWALT's page
Start with the engine rating. The maker's page says the DXAELJ16 helps to start most 4, 6 and 8 cylinder engine cars and trucks with wet, gel or AGM 12 volt lead-acid batteries, and Amazon's bullet says vehicles up to V8. No document we read gives a litre figure or a diesel rating.
The manual's specification table gives the output as 1600 Amp Max and says the jump starter and power bank are certified to ANSI/CAN/UL 2743. A footnote credits Intertek with verifying the 1600 peak amp figure and says it conforms to UL 2743; it does not say how the figure is measured.
The battery is listed only as lithium polymer, 11.1V DC, with no capacity in watt-hours or milliamp-hours. The manual also warns that the unit needs a minimum voltage to detect the connection: below about 2 volts it may not detect the battery or start the vehicle, and no override button is described anywhere in the manual.
Start limits: short bursts, a rest, then stop
The manual says to crank in 5 to 6 second bursts until the engine starts. The light on the Smart Cables controller shows green when the clamps are connected correctly and red for reversed polarity, a low internal battery or an overheated controller. The connection steps, safety warnings and first-aid text are in the manual; read them there before the first jump.
Its attempt limit is explicit. If the first attempt fails, the manual asks for a rest of 4 to 5 minutes before a second, and if the second fails it says to stop and look for other problems, adding that the battery may be damaged. If cranking current or time exceeds the unit's limits, the controller flashes red for a 50-second cool-down.
Troubleshooting adds that the unit may enter over-current or over-time protection, in which case the manual asks for about 30 minutes of cooling. It also says never to start a vehicle while the unit is charging, and that using it with no battery installed in the vehicle will damage the vehicle's electrical system.
Temperature and charging rules
The specification table gives a charging range of 32 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit and an operating range of minus 4 to 104 degrees. For battery life the manual suggests storing it between 41 and 68 degrees, charging after each use, never running it fully flat, and charging at least every 3 to 6 months when idle. Its safety list also says to store it indoors when not in use and not to use or store it inside cars in hot weather, while the maker's page calls it easy to keep in your glove compartment.
It ships partially charged. The input is 5 volts at 2 amps, a 2 amp USB source is required, and the manual gives about 6 hours on the supplied AC adapter. Its charging steps route the USB charging cable into the unit's Type A port, and the Type C port gives no output while that is happening.
The manual says charging stops if the internal battery overheats and resumes on its own after a cool-down. It also says to charge indoors only and to recharge with the USB charging cable supplied by the manufacturer.
In the box, USB output and the light
The manual's features list names the Smart Cables controller, metal battery clamps, a DC charger, an AC charger and a USB charging cable. The maker's page describes the same set as a home AC charger, a car DC charger and a USB charging cable, so the unit can be recharged from a wall outlet, a car socket or a USB port.
USB output is modest. The USB-A and USB-C ports on the unit share 5 volts at 3.1 amps in total, and the USB ports on the two adapters give 5 volts at 2 amps. Amazon's bullet mentions computers and laptops; the manual gives only those 5 volt limits and warns that some USB electronics will not operate from these ports.
The power button turns the USB ports on with one press, adds the LED light with a second and switches both off with a third. The features list calls it a 200 lumen light and the specification table lists 3 white LEDs. Apart from the 2 amp fuse in the DC adapter plug, the manual says there are no user-replaceable parts.
Warranty terms from Baccus Global
The manual's warranty is given by Baccus Global as the manufacturer: one year from the date of retail purchase by the original end-user purchaser, or from the date of delivery if that is later. A valid claim is settled by replacement, either by returning the unit to Baccus, where proof of purchase may be required, or by an exchange at the store it came from, provided that store is a participating retailer and the return falls inside the store's exchange window.
The manual's exclusion list names accessories, bulbs, fuses and batteries, along with normal wear and tear, accidents, shipping damage, alterations, unauthorized use, neglect, misuse, abuse and failure to follow the care instructions. Its safety list adds that opening the unit will void the warranty. It does not say whether the word batteries covers the unit's own internal battery, so ask Baccus before counting on the warranty for a battery fault.
The same text says the product is not intended for commercial use and points to BaccusGlobal.com for product registration. Nothing in it limits which seller you buy from; the only seller condition is the participating-retailer wording for store exchanges, so ask Baccus at 1-888-394-3392 or CustomerService@dewalt12volt.com how an Amazon purchase is handled before you need it.
