Who makes it, and how the model code matches

The DXAELJ18C carries the DEWALT name, but its manual names Baccus Global LLC of Boca Raton, Florida as the manufacturer and warrantor, and the footer of the dewalt12volt.com site says the DEWALT name and logo are used under license. Baccus Global's own site describes licensing partnerships with DeWalt, Stanley and Black & Decker and links to the DEWALT 12V site.

The code matches cleanly. DXAELJ18C is printed on the maker's product page, which calls it an 1800 peak amp lithium jump starter with USB power bank and case, on the manual cover, and in Amazon's title, model and part-number fields. The maker's jump starters page lists it with the lithium models.

What 1800 amps covers, per DEWALT's page

Start with the engine rating. The maker's page and Amazon's bullet both say the DXAELJ18C helps to start most 4, 6 and 8 cylinder engine cars and trucks with wet, gel or AGM 12 volt lead-acid batteries. No document we read gives a litre figure or a diesel rating.

The manual's specification table gives the output as 1800 Amp Max, and a footnote credits Intertek with verifying the 1800 peak amp figure and says it conforms to UL 2743. It does not say how the figure is measured. The battery is listed only as lithium polymer, 11.1V DC, with no capacity in watt-hours or milliamp-hours.

The manual warns that the unit needs a minimum voltage to detect the connection: below about 2 volts it may not detect the battery or start the vehicle, and no override button is described. It is for 12 volt vehicle systems only, not 6 or 24 volt, and the manual says it is not qualified for marine use.

Charging: USB-C, a car adapter, and no wall plug

The box is built around USB-C. The manual's features list names a 12V DC/USB charging adapter and a USB-C to USB-C cable, and Amazon's box list names a DC charging adapter and USB-C cable too. None of the three documents lists a wall adapter, and the maker's page speaks of charging in your vehicle with the DC to USB-C charger.

Charging from a wall means supplying your own adapter. The manual asks for a Listed Class 2 USB power adapter that meets applicable safety standards, with at least 2 amps. The input accepts USB-C PD up to 30 watts across several voltages, or 5 volts at 2 amps, and the USB-A port gives no output while the USB-C port is charging the unit.

Temperature sets hard limits. The specification table gives charging at 32 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit and operation at minus 4 to 104 degrees. The manual says charging stops if the battery overheats or the ambient temperature falls below 0 degrees Celsius, with the status lights flashing rapidly, and resumes after it warms or cools. It asks for a charge at least every 3 to 6 months when idle. Amazon's bullet mentions storage in a vehicle, but the manual says to store it indoors when not in use and not to use or store it inside cars in hot weather.

Start limits: short bursts, a rest, then stop

The manual says to crank in 5 to 6 second bursts until the engine starts. The Smart Cables controller light shows green when the clamps are connected correctly and red for reversed polarity, a low internal battery or an overheated controller. The connection steps, safety warnings and first-aid text are in the manual; read them there before the first jump.

If the first attempt fails, the manual asks for a rest of 4 to 5 minutes before a second, and if the second fails it says to stop and look for other problems, adding that the battery may be damaged. If cranking current or time exceeds the unit's limits, the controller flashes red for a 50-second cool-down.

Troubleshooting adds about 30 minutes of cooling for over-current or over-time protection and says the unit may also refuse while its battery is too hot or too cold. The manual says never to start a vehicle while the unit is charging, and that using it with no battery installed in the vehicle will damage the vehicle's electrical system.

USB output, the light and the case

The USB-C port gives up to 30 watts PD and the USB-A port up to 15 watts, but the two share 15 watts at 5 volts when both are in use. The car adapter's own USB port also supplies PD 30 watts. Plugging a device in turns the ports on, the unit switches off a short time after the device is removed, and the ports carry no data.

The power button steps the LED light through low, high and flash, then off. The features list calls it a 200 lumen light and the specification table lists 2 white LEDs. The light and the USB ports both shut down if the internal battery is too hot or too cold, and the manual says there are no user-replaceable parts.

The maker's page and Amazon's box list both include a storage and carrying case, though the manual's features list does not mention one. The manual also says never to connect the 12 volt DC/USB charging adapter to a positive grounded vehicle.

Warranty terms from Baccus Global

The manual's warranty is given by Baccus Global as the manufacturer: one year from the date of retail purchase by the original end-user purchaser, or from the date of delivery if that is later. A valid claim is settled by replacement, either by returning the unit to Baccus, where proof of purchase may be required, or by an exchange at the store it came from, provided that store is a participating retailer and the return falls inside the store's exchange window.

The manual's exclusion list names accessories, bulbs, fuses and batteries, along with normal wear and tear, accidents, shipping damage, alterations, unauthorized use, neglect, misuse, abuse and failure to follow the care instructions. Its safety list adds that opening the unit will void the warranty. It does not say whether the word batteries covers the unit's own internal battery, so ask Baccus before counting on the warranty for a battery fault.

The same text says the product is not intended for commercial use and points to BaccusGlobal.com for product registration. Nothing in it limits which seller you buy from; the only seller condition is the participating-retailer wording for store exchanges, so ask Baccus at 1-888-394-3392 or CustomerService@dewalt12volt.com how an Amazon purchase is handled before you need it.
