A 500cc generator that runs on three fuels
The Amazon listing is sold by Amazon.com and gives model and part number XP13000HXT with UPC 811640016470; DuroMax's product page prints the same part number and UPC in its specification table, and the user manual's cover and specification page print XP13000HXT. It is a 500cc, 13,000 peak watt generator that runs on gasoline, propane or natural gas, with a CO ALERT shutdown.
DuroMax's page lists the generator, an oil funnel, a spark plug wrench, a tool set, a wheel and handle kit, a 15-foot by 3/4-inch natural gas hose, a propane regulator, a remote control and the owner's manual in the box. The spec table lists push-button, electric, recoil and remote starting and an included 12V sealed lead acid battery; the manual says the negative battery cable is connected during setup.
Watts on each fuel, and a sales sheet that disagrees
DuroMax's page and the manual agree on 13,000 peak and 10,500 running watts on gasoline, 12,500 and 10,000 on propane, and 11,250 and 9,000 on natural gas. On gasoline the page quotes 17 hours at a quarter load and 8.5 hours at half load from the 8.3 gallon tank; on propane it quotes 13 and 6.5 hours, and the manual bases its propane runtime on a 40 pound tank, the minimum size the page suggests.
The XP13000HXT sales sheet linked from the same page gives lower figures for the other two fuels: 12,000 peak and 9,500 running on propane, and 10,000 and 8,500 on natural gas. Both are DuroMax documents; if your load is near the propane or natural gas rating, plan on the sales sheet's lower figures or ask DuroMax which applies.
Outlets, CO ALERT and where to run it
The spec table lists four 5-20R GFCI outlets, one L5-30R, one L14-30R and one 14-50R, at 120/240 volts and 60 hertz with total harmonic distortion under 5 percent. The manual says CO ALERT "Shuts down the engine in the event of CO buildup": the indicator lights red, the engine shuts down and it will not restart for 5 minutes. A yellow light means an error in the CO ALERT system, and the manual says to contact DuroMax service.
DuroMax's manual says on page 8: "Use outdoors ONLY in non-confined areas." and "Keep several feet of clearance on all sides to allow proper ventilation of the generator." Page 15 adds that "taking your generator outside is absolutely mandatory to keep your family safe from carbon monoxide." The manual's text gives no distance from windows or doors. Its carbon monoxide, fuel, electrical and button-cell battery warnings are on pages 8 to 15; read them in the manual before first use.
Connecting to a house or a gas line
The manual's electrical warning on page 9 reads: "NEVER connect to a building electrical system without a qualified electrician. Such connections must comply with local electrical laws and codes. Failure to comply can create a back-flow of power, which may result in serious injury or death to utility workers." DuroMax's page says: "Use a transfer switch or interlock, and hire a licensed Master Electrician for whole-home backup." This page gives no wiring guidance.
The manual lists the neutral as bonded, and a separate DuroMax sheet, addressed to installers connecting it to a standard 2-pole transfer switch or interlock, says only a qualified electrician should remove the bond and that the generator must never run with the bond removed unless it is connected to a ground. For natural gas, the manual says to consult a licensed natural gas plumber and lists the supply pressure, BTU and shutoff valve requirements. The manual also says its idle control is for gasoline only and must not be used for backup house power.
Weight, emissions status, break-in and storage
DuroMax's page lists 240 pounds dry and a 246 pound product weight, the manual also gives 246 pounds, and the generator measures 30 by 29 by 26 inches on 10-inch metal-hub wheels. The spec table says EPA certified yes, CARB certified no and 50-state compliant no, so California buyers should confirm with DuroMax before ordering. The page lists 74 dB and the manual under 74 dB; neither gives the distance or load behind that figure.
The manual takes 40.5 fluid ounces of 10W-30 and asks for the first 6 to 8 hours to be run on conventional oil under half load, then an oil change. Its schedule then changes oil every 3 months or 50 hours of heavy use and every 6 months or 100 hours of normal use. It says not to store fuel from one season to another, and, for storage longer than 30 days, to drain the tank and keep the removed battery on a 12V tender indoors.
Warranty: 5 years on parts, 2 years on emissions parts
DuroMax's warranty document gives the original purchaser a 5-year parts warranty for residential use, with unusually heavy or commercial use covered for 1 year. Freight on items sent for repair or replacement is the owner's responsibility, and the warranty is non-transferable. DuroMax's page describes it as a 5-year parts and technical service warranty.
The document excludes normal wear and tear, installation, use or maintenance services, cosmetic defects, accessories, natural disasters and problems from aftermarket or non-OEM parts. A separate emissions warranty covers emission-related parts for two years, including diagnosis, parts and labor, and DuroMax may deny that coverage for abuse, neglect, improper maintenance or unapproved modifications.
