Which Cadorna Prestige this is: RI9604/47, Anthracite

The Amazon listing is sold by Amazon.com and gives model and part number RI9604/47 in Anthracite. Gaggia North America's product data lists an Anthracite variant, SKU 28560, with barcode 075020086778, which is the listing's UPC, and a Moonlight Grey variant with its own SKU.

Both Gaggia manuals print RI9604 on the cover without a suffix, but Gaggia's Cadorna Prestige parts diagram, linked from the same Gaggia North America manuals page, lists RI9604/01, /41, /42 and /47 under the Cadorna Prestige name. Colour variants of the machine share this one page.

14 drinks or 15: Gaggia's two manuals disagree

The Amazon listing and Gaggia's 2020 manual both say 14 beverages. Gaggia's page calls over-ice brewing a new feature for this version of the machine. Gaggia's product page and its newer Over-Ice manual say 15, adding an Over-Ice coffee brewed at a lower temperature to pour over ice cubes, with a coffee boost option that grinds twice and brews one cup at a time.

Gaggia's manuals page lists both documents, and the listing's barcode is the one on the page that describes 15 drinks, so the documents do not show which version ships in this box. The 15 in the newer manual are ristretto, flat white, espresso, café au lait, espresso lungo, latte macchiato, coffee, latte macchiato XL, Americano, frothed milk, cappuccino, hot water, cappuccino XL, Over Ice and cortado. Check for the Over Ice entry when you unpack it.

Size, tank and hopper: three sets of figures

Gaggia's page gives 15 inches high, 10.2 wide, 17.3 deep, 20.5 pounds, a 1.5 litre reservoir, a 10.58 ounce hopper, an 18 ounce drip tray, room for 10 used pucks and a 0.6 litre milk carafe. It lists a flat ceramic burr grinder with 10 grind settings, 5 aroma strengths and 3 temperature levels, cups from 2.7 to 6.1 inches tall, 1,400 watts at 110-120V and the INTENZA+ water filter.

Both manuals give a 1.8 litre water tank, a 250 gram bean container, 7.5 kilograms, a 15 bar pump and a stainless steel boiler, but their dimensions differ: 221 by 340 by 430 millimetres in the 2020 manual and 260 by 380 by 440 in the Over-Ice one, which matches the page. The listing gives 60.8 fluid ounces and 21 pounds, so confirm the tank size and weight before you plan the counter space.

Beans, ground coffee, water and the milk carafe

Gaggia's manuals say to put only roasted whole beans in the hopper, never ground, instant or raw coffee, and not to use caramelized or flavored beans. Pre-ground coffee goes only into the separate compartment, one level scoop at a time, and the manual advises brewing 5 coffees at first so the machine can finish adjusting itself.

The tank takes cold water only, never warm, hot or sparkling. The milk carafe should hold only milk, or water for cleaning, and is not dishwasher safe. Two cups at once works only for coffee drinks brewed from beans: the manual rules it out for milk drinks, the Americano, hot water and pre-ground coffee, and the Over-Ice coffee boost also brews one cup at a time.

Descaling, the INTENZA+ filter and cleaning

The machine signals when it needs descaling, and Gaggia's manual says to use only Gaggia's descaling solution, that the cycle takes about 25 minutes, and that failing to descale will void the warranty. Its caution page also recommends periodic descaling every 2 to 3 months even when you use purified or bottled water.

The INTENZA+ water filter is set by water hardness using the letter on its base, and the display warns when it expires. Gaggia lists weekly cleaning for the water tank and the pre-ground compartment, and brew group lubrication every 4 months for 1 to 5 drinks a day, every 2 months for 6 to 10 and monthly above that. The brew group must not go in a dishwasher or be dried with a cloth, and Gaggia says to use only its own tablets to remove oily residue.

Warranty and household-use limits

The listing says 1 year handled by Gaggia, and the manuals point to a warranty booklet supplied separately, which was not read for this page. The manuals say accessories or parts from other makers invalidate the warranty, and that repair is not covered if you skip the described cleaning and maintenance.

The manual limits the machine to normal household use and says it is not intended for staff kitchens of shops, offices, farms or other work environments. It also says not to keep the machine below 0°C or 32°F because water left in the heating system may freeze, and not to place it in a cabinet while in use.
