A desiccant machine, which changes what it is good at
The IVADDH06 is a desiccant dehumidifier, not a compressor one. Instead of chilling air to condense water, it passes air over a rotor of zeolite that adsorbs moisture and is then heated to release it into a reservoir. The manual's own troubleshooting table notes the consequence: the unit can give off an unusual smell, because the zeolite absorbs odours from cigarettes, cosmetics, hair spray, building materials and new furniture and releases them when heated.
The practical trade is heat and power for cold-weather performance. The listing says the unit gently warms the ambient air while extracting moisture, which is a real effect of the process rather than a feature bolted on. It draws 470 watts on high and 280 on low at 120 V, which is a lot for a 13-pint machine, and there is no refrigerant and no defrost cycle because there is no cold coil to frost.
Parts are simple: a control panel, an air intake vent, an air outlet vent, an air filter and a removable water reservoir. The listing adds a carry handle and a tilt and overflow auto-stop.
Thirteen pints, measured at 68°F
The manual's specifications list gives the dehumidification figure as 13 pints per day at 68°F and 60% relative humidity, and the listing's first bullet says the same thing. That is a cooler, more realistic test point than the 80°F or 95°F conditions used by many compressor units, which is worth knowing when you compare pint figures across this category.
The manual does not say whether that figure comes from any federal test method, and we found no ENERGY STAR or DOE record for this model, so treat 13 pints as a maker figure at a stated condition and nothing more.
Coverage is quoted as rooms up to 270 square feet. The manual itself does not state a room size; that number comes from the listing.
It works where compressor dehumidifiers stop
The manual's specification list and its safety precautions both give an operating temperature range of 33°F to 104°F, and the troubleshooting table explains what happens at the edges: outside that range the unit stops and shows HI or LO on the display, which the manual says is normal and by design.
Thirty-three degrees is the headline. Compressor dehumidifiers ice up and lose most of their output in a cold garage or an unheated attic; a desiccant unit keeps working because nothing has to get colder than the room. If that is the problem you are solving, this is the right kind of machine.
The manual also asks for the basics: keep the unit upright on a flat surface, keep the air inlets and outlets unblocked, do not put it too close to curtains, never place anything on top of it, and never run it in direct sunlight. It does not print a minimum clearance distance in the pages we read.
The continuous drain hose is in the title but not in the box
This is the conflict to read before ordering. The Amazon title says "With Continuous Drain Hose", and the bullets say to connect the included hose for hands-free drainage. The exact-model manual supplied on the same listing says something different: to drain continuously you use a screwdriver to remove a circular knockout below the air intake vent, then "securely attach a hose with a 7/16" inner diameter (not included)".
So the listing and the manual disagree about whether a hose comes with the unit, and the manual is the document that describes the job. If continuous drainage is the reason you are buying, have a 7/16-inch inner-diameter hose ready, and expect to remove a knockout rather than unscrew a cap.
The manual adds a warning that matters in a bathroom or attic: level the unit correctly or water may still overflow into the tank even with the hose connected, and position the hose so it leads downward to a drain. There is no pump, so the drain has to be below the outlet.
The reservoir, the filter and the fortnightly job
The manual gives the water tank capacity as 0.5 gallon (1.8 litres), which is the same as the 3.8 pints in Amazon's Tank Volume field. There is a level indicator, and the listing says the unit auto-stops on tilt or overflow.
Cleaning is on a clock: the manual says to clean the air filter every two weeks in order to prolong the life of the dehumidifier, and the safety precautions say not to use the unit without the air filter. There is also a warning triangle on the display that blinks when the inlet or outlet is blocked, which the troubleshooting table attributes to a dirty or clogged filter.
Two behaviours that look like faults but are not: the fan keeps running for about two minutes after you switch the unit off, and the smell described earlier. The control panel also carries a DIM button for the backlit LCD, a timer from 1 to 12 hours or no time specified, and a swing control with 70-degree, 50-degree, 120-degree and hold settings.
Warranty and the limits of what we could check
The manual states that the product is covered by a limited one-year warranty, that coverage is subject to limits and exclusions, and that any use outside the guidelines in the user guide may void it. It also says the product is intended for household use only and, in the safety precautions, that it is for domestic and light office use and not for commercial, industrial or outdoor use. Customer service is directed to Ivation by email and phone.
We could not read the full warranty text. Ivation's own online store is password-gated, so there is no maker product page or warranty page for this model that we could open, and the two PDF links on the Amazon listing resolve to the same user guide. That is a thinner paper trail than we like, and it is why every figure on this page is attributed to either the listing or that one document.
Before buying, ask the seller for the warranty terms in writing, and check the seller and the condition of the offer you select.
