RENPHO Active Thermacool 2 Massage Gun (R-WMG13)

The model, and what the box actually contains

Amazon lists this as the RENPHO Active Thermacool 2, model number R-WMG13, UPC 840191400926. RENPHO's own user-manual index lists "Active Thermacool 2" against R-WMG13 and links a manual whose cover reads "ACTIVE THERMACOOL 2 USER MANUAL Model: R-WMG13". The identity is clean, which is not always the case in this category.

The manual's box list is: one massage gun, five massage heads, one USB-C charging cable, two rubber sleeves, one travel case and one user manual. Note the two spare rubber sleeves — the manual explains that each head is pre-installed with a rubber sleeve that holds it in the gun, and that a damaged one should be swapped for a spare.

A wall charger is not included. The charging instruction says to plug the supplied USB-C cable into the unit and into "the mobile power source or mobile charger (not included)". That is ordinary for this price band but worth knowing before the box arrives.

Amplitude, speed and the figures the manual does not carry

RENPHO publishes a proper specification block in the manual, which makes this one of the easier guns to check. Model R-WMG13; input 5V 2A; battery voltage DC 7.4V; speed 1800 to 3200 RPM; amplitude 10 mm; battery capacity 2500 mAh / 18.5 Wh; auto-off timer 10 minutes; charging time not more than 2.5 hours; dimensions 7.3 x 5.7 x 2.3 inches (186 x 147 x 60 mm); weight 1.39 lb (630 g).

Amplitude at 10 mm and a speed floor of 1800 RPM are both useful numbers that many competing listings omit. The Amazon bullets quote the 3200 RPM top speed and the 10 mm amplitude, matching the manual.

Two of the listing's headline claims are not in the manual at all. The bullet says "a heavy-duty 45 lbs max stall force" and "Operating at a quiet 40 dB". Neither figure appears anywhere in RENPHO's specification block or elsewhere in the English pages we read, and no measurement conditions are given for either. Treat both as listing claims you cannot check against the maker's document.

Weight is the one place the sources disagree. The manual says 1.39 lb (630 g); Amazon's table says 1.78 to 1.79 pounds. Amazon also gives two different dimension lines on the same page, 7.3 x 5.7 x 2.3 inches in one table (matching the manual) and 6.69 x 7.36 x 2.17 inches in another.

The heat and cold head is the reason to consider this one

The distinguishing feature is a single attachment that does both temperatures. The manual lists five heads: a Heating and Cooling Head for all body parts, a Ball Head for large muscle groups, a Bullet Head for joints, deep tissue, trigger points and small areas, a Flat Head for shoulder blades, IT bands or general use, and a U-shaped Head for the spine, neck and Achilles tendon.

RENPHO publishes the actual temperatures, which matters more than a level count. Heating runs through four levels with a stated range of 102°F to 113°F (39°C to 45°C). Cooling runs through four levels with a stated range of 46°F to 57°F (8°C to 14°C). The Amazon bullet quotes the two extremes, up to 113°F and down to 46°F, so the listing and the manual agree.

Each function is its own press-and-hold button with its own indicator — red for heat, blue for cool — and a short press cycles the level. The manual adds a caution of its own: "The device is equipped with a heating and cooling massage head. Persons sensitive to heat or cold must use it with caution."

Three separate automatic cut-offs

This gun stops itself in three different circumstances and the manual describes each one, which is genuinely useful when you are trying to work out why it went quiet. First, the auto shut-off: "The device and the heating & cooling massage head will shut off automatically after 10 minutes of continuous use." That is also listed in the specification block as an auto-off timer of 10 minutes.

Second, locked-motor protection: the manual says that if you apply excessive pressure during a session the device will stall. Third, the troubleshooting table names a built-in overheat protection that shuts the device off when overheating occurs, with the instruction to wait for it to cool before restarting. If the gun stops mid-session, one of those three is the likely reason rather than a fault.

RENPHO also prints a usage limit that is separate from the ten-minute timer: "It is recommended to start every massage session with minimal intensity before you get used to it. Do not use for more than 30 minutes at a time." We are reporting the maker's instruction, not giving advice of our own.

Controls, charging and keeping it working

Operation is simple: press and hold the power button to switch on, with the speed indicator lighting; short presses cycle speed levels one to five; press and hold again to switch off. The unit has a VA display showing the speed level and battery status, described in the listing and matching the manual's labelled indicators for temperature, speed and battery.

Charging is over USB-C at 5V 2A and the manual gives a charging time of 2.5 hours or less, matching Amazon's 2.5-hour field. RENPHO does not publish a runtime figure in the manual; Amazon's details field says "Battery Average Life: 3 hours" and the listing bullet claims "25% longer runtime than our previous model" without naming the model or the test, so neither is a figure you can rely on.

The battery is not user-replaceable. RENPHO's battery notes say the device contains non-replaceable batteries and that the whole device should be properly disposed of at end of battery life, and warn against dismantling, shredding or heating cells above 100°C (212°F). Cleaning is a wipe of the outer surfaces with a soft cloth, with the device switched off, and storage in a cool dry place; the manual says the device has no user-serviceable parts and should not be opened.

Warranty wording, and the safety pages to read first

The manual's English warranty page says: "Your RENPHO product purchase is covered by a one-year limited manufacturer warranty from the date of delivery," points owners to RENPHO's warranty terms and conditions page, and states that product registration is not required and that choosing not to register will not diminish the warranty. Amazon's details field also says "1 Year Manufacturer".

Worth noting if you are shopping across regions: the German-language section of the same manual states a two-year limited manufacturer warranty, while the English section states one year. We are reporting what each language section of the document says and not attempting to explain the difference; confirm the term that applies to your purchase with RENPHO before you rely on either.

Support contact numbers are printed for the UK, the US and Canada, Australia and Germany with their business hours, and the manual asks you not to dispose of any product parts before a warranty inspection.

Finally, the safety section. RENPHO states plainly that "The device is intended for household use only and not intended for medical use. It should not be used in treatment or alleviation of disease or abnormal physical state." The manual then carries a list of people who are told to consult a doctor before using it and a list of body areas where it must not be used at all.
