The listing's brand field reads Generic rather than Serta, so rely on the model number and item number rather than the brand field to confirm you have the right chair.

The casters are for carpet, not hard floors

This is the point most likely to matter at home. The booklet says the casters sold with this chair are intended for carpet and are not recommended on tile or hardwood, warns they may damage those floor surfaces, and suggests buying a chair mat to protect them.

The Amazon listing's surface recommendation field says Hard Floor, which contradicts the booklet. Go by the booklet: if your desk sits on wood, tile or vinyl, plan on a mat, and confirm with the seller before ordering if you were counting on the listing's hard-floor wording. Office Depot's page lists the casters as non-locking.

What you can adjust

The booklet describes a lever on the right side for seat height and a second right-side lever for tilt lockout: lift it and lean back to tilt, or sit upright and push it down to lock. A round black knob under the front centre of the seat sets tilt tension; check the booklet for which direction loosens it.

The arms raise and lower with a button. A knob on the back of the backrest moves the lumbar support in or out, and the lumbar pad and the headrest both adjust for height; the headrest angle also adjusts. The seat swivels a full 360 degrees.

Office Depot's specification table says the chair does not recline, yet it lists tilt angle, tilt lock and tilt tension among the adjustments, and the booklet plainly describes leaning back once the tilt lever is released. The two sources disagree, so ask the seller how far the back tilts if that matters to you.

Size, weight limit and conflicting identifiers

The booklet gives a maximum weight capacity of 275 pounds, or 125 kilograms, and the listing and Office Depot page both agree. Office Depot lists the chair at 52 inches high, 28-3/4 inches wide and 28 inches deep, with a seat 19 inches long and 21 inches wide, and a floor-to-seat height from 18 to 21-3/4 inches.

The Amazon listing gives 28 by 28 by 52 inches and a weight of 50 pounds. Office Depot's page shows manufacturer number 52119-CN and UPC 735854683993, while the listing shows UPC 735854716967 and the booklet uses 52119-GRY. All three name item 8661002 and the gray colour, so we treat them as the same chair, but check the label under the seat when it arrives.

Assembly and upkeep

The chair arrives in parts: five separate legs that bolt into the base, casters, gas lift, seat plate, seat, back, arms and headrest, with an Allen key. The booklet walks through nine steps and says not to use power tools. If any leg bolt will not tighten fully, it says to stop, not use the base, and contact customer service.

It also asks you to check and re-tighten all bolts every 90 days, and to keep the Allen key for that. The chair is for indoor use only, away from direct sun, heat and damp, and you should not stand on the seat.

For cleaning, the booklet allows only a damp cloth on the upholstery and suggests a professional upholstery cleaner for persistent stains. It warns against cleaners with alcohol or bleach and asks you to spot-test any cleaner out of sight first.

Warranty: five years, with a one-year exception

The booklet's warranty page covers the original purchase for normal commercial, personal or household use, for five years against defects in materials and workmanship. Fabrics, foam, veneer finishes and other covering materials are covered for only one year. Office Depot's page also lists a five-year limited warranty.

A receipt is required, and claims without one may be rejected. Remedies are repair, replacement, or a refund in the form of an Office Depot merchandise card. The warranty excludes misuse, improper cleaning, modifications and chairs not assembled or maintained as instructed, and applies only in the United States and Canada.
