Tractive DOG 6 GPS Pet Tracker (TG6A)
Dogs over 8.8 lb whose owner will keep a cellular plan running
The DOG 6 is a cellular GPS tracker with a built-in SIM, so it needs a paid Tractive subscription to report anything at all. Tractive rates it for dogs above 8.8 pounds and collars up to 1.1 inches wide, with up to two weeks of battery when Power Saving Zones are used. It is IP68 waterproof and needs Android 10 or iOS 17 or newer.

Fit and limits
Strengths
- Cellular and GPS, so it reports position without relying on nearby phones

The category question first: this is a cellular tracker, not a tag
Pet trackers split into two kinds that behave completely differently, and buying the wrong one is the expensive mistake. The DOG 6 is the cellular kind. Tractive's FAQ says the tracker has a built-in SIM card, like a phone, and uses mobile networks to send location information, with the network fees covered by the subscription.
That means it reports a position from wherever it has cellular service, rather than relying on other people's phones passing nearby. It also means it does not work at all without an active subscription, because the SIM is what carries the location data. Tractive states the plan is chosen after purchase and can be cancelled at any time.
The alternative kind, a Bluetooth finder tag, has no SIM and no ongoing fee but only reports when a compatible phone comes within Bluetooth range of it. If you want to follow a dog across open country in real time, the tag category cannot do that, and this one can only do it while there is cellular coverage. We are not quoting any subscription price here; ask Tractive for current plan terms before you buy the hardware.
Coverage, and two different network descriptions
Tractive's technical specs table lists the DOG 6's connectivity as LTE/4G Cat1bis, Bluetooth 5.0 and 2.4 GHz WiFi, with location from GPS, GLONASS and Galileo. Its marketing panel says Tractive offers support all over America wherever Verizon, T-Mobile or AT&T have coverage.
The FAQ on the same page describes the range differently: unlimited, working in over 175 countries where there is 2G and/or LTE CatM1 cellular coverage from one of Tractive's 500-plus partners. Cat1bis and CatM1 are not the same radio profile, so the page gives two different answers about what the device actually connects to.
We are not going to reconcile those for you. If you live somewhere with patchy service, or you travel with the dog, check Tractive's own coverage tool for your area and ask which radio the DOG 6 hardware uses before ordering. The Amazon listing's bullet claims tracking "anywhere in the world" with no distance limits, which is a broader statement than the FAQ's coverage-dependent wording.
Will it fit your dog? The minimum weight is the gate
Tractive states the DOG 6 is suitable for dogs that weigh 8.8 pounds and above, and it repeats that figure in both the model selector and the FAQ. The Amazon listing bullet rounds it down to "any dog over 8 pounds". If your dog is between 8 and 8.8 pounds, take the maker's number, not the listing's.
The other fit limit is collar width. Tractive's specs say the DOG 6 fits collar widths of up to 1.1 inches. The DOG 6 XL goes to 1.6 inches and the XL Adventure to 2.0 inches, so a wide working collar may need the larger model rather than this one. Measure the collar, not the dog, before ordering.
The device itself is 2.8 by 1.1 by 0.7 inches and 1.4 ounces on Tractive's specs; Amazon's tables give 2.8 by 1.14 by 0.67 inches and 1.3 ounces, which is the same object measured to a different rounding. What comes in the box is the tracker, a USB-C charging cable and a clip.
Battery life, and the condition attached to it
Both documents say up to two weeks, and Amazon's Features & Specs records a battery average life of 14 days with a battery capacity of 1400. But Tractive's own specification table adds five words that the listing bullet leaves off: "Up to 2 weeks (with Power Saving Zones)".
Power Saving Zones are a Tractive feature that reduces how hard the tracker works while the pet is in a known safe area. So the headline figure assumes you set that up and that your dog spends a good share of its time inside such a zone. A dog out of zone, or a tracker in LIVE mode with updates every two to three seconds, will not see two weeks.
If two weeks of battery is the reason you are buying, the XL models are the ones Tractive rates at up to six weeks, but they carry higher minimum dog weights of 44.1 and 55.1 pounds. Choosing on battery alone can push you into a model your dog is too small to wear.
The health features, in Tractive's own words and limits
Tractive says the DOG 6 monitors the dog's resting heart rate and respiratory rate, collected while the dog is sleeping or resting, and shows a daily average against the dog's own baseline. It also describes activity monitoring, sleep monitoring, scratch monitoring and a weekly report, plus alerts when those patterns change over a longer period.
Tractive attaches a limit to all of it, and it is printed at the foot of every page on its site: Tractive is not a medical device, and while it monitors trends and patterns in a pet's well-being it is not intended to diagnose health conditions. Its FAQ answers the question directly, saying Tractive does not diagnose and that medical advice and diagnosis should always be sought from a veterinarian.
We are repeating that limit rather than the marketing around it, because the Amazon bullets go further than Tractive's own disclaimer does. Treat the vitals features as a log of changes to discuss with a vet, and take any question about what a reading means to that vet rather than to an app.
Phone requirements, and what Tractive's terms actually promise
The tracker is useless without a supported phone. Tractive's specs require Android 10.0 or newer, or iOS 17.0 or newer. That iOS floor is higher than many household devices still run, so check the phone that will actually carry the app, not just the newest one in the house.
On warranty, the two documents do not match. Amazon's listing field says "2 year manufacturer". Tractive's own General Terms and Conditions for the United States, valid from 23 December 2025, say that except for rights granted to consumers under mandatory law, products and services are provided on an as-is and as-available basis, and that Tractive warrants only that products will be provided in usable condition, expressly disclaiming implied warranties of merchantability, satisfactory quality and fitness for a particular purpose.
The same terms say product returns for refunds, replacements or repairs under warranty apply only in countries Tractive supports. Before you buy on the strength of the listing's two-year figure, ask Tractive to confirm in writing what warranty applies to part number TG6A in your country, and keep the receipt. Tractive's product page separately advertises a 30-day refund guarantee on the tracker, which is a return window rather than a warranty.
