The DOG 6 XL is Tractive's large-dog tracker: 3.3 by 1.9 by 0.8 inches, 2.5 ounces, rated for dogs above 44.1 pounds and collars up to 1.6 inches wide. Tractive states up to six weeks of battery when Power Saving Zones are in use, three times the standard DOG 6. It is a cellular device, so a paid plan is required, and the listing's own size field quotes the smaller model's dimensions.

Only for big dogs, and Tractive means it
The XL is not simply a longer-lasting version of Tractive's standard tracker. Its technical specification table states it is recommended for dogs above 44.1 pounds, and the first listing bullet agrees, saying the XL is for dogs over 44 pounds. The standard DOG 6 starts at 8.8 pounds and the XL Adventure edition starts at 55.1 pounds.
The reason is size and mass. Tractive gives the XL as 3.3 by 1.9 by 0.8 inches and 2.5 ounces, against 2.8 by 1.1 by 0.7 inches and 1.4 ounces for the standard DOG 6. That is a noticeably larger block hanging off a collar, which is why the minimum weight exists.
Collar width is the other gate. Tractive says the DOG 6 XL fits collar widths of up to 1.6 inches, against 1.1 inches for the standard model and 2.0 inches for the XL Adventure. Measure the collar you actually use before ordering, because a wide working or tracking collar can exceed 1.6 inches.
The listing's own size field does not match the product
Amazon's Measurements table for this ASIN gives item dimensions of 2.8 by 1.14 by 0.67 inches. That is the size Tractive publishes for the standard DOG 6, not for the XL, and it is the same figure that appears on the standard DOG 6 listing. The item weight on the same table, 2.47 ounces, does match Tractive's 2.5 ounce XL figure.
So one row of that table describes a different product from the one the title, the bullets and the weight describe. We are not going to guess which rows are right; we are telling you that the maker's own table gives 3.3 by 1.9 by 0.8 inches for the DOG 6 XL and that this is the figure to plan around.
The Special Feature field carries a smaller version of the same problem. It lists the device as water resistant, while Tractive's specification table rates all three DOG 6 models as 100 percent waterproof to IP68. Take the IP68 figure from Tractive if water matters to you, and confirm it for part number TG6XLC.
Six weeks of battery, with a condition attached
Battery life is the main reason to choose the XL. Tractive's table states up to six weeks, and Amazon's Features & Specs records a battery average life of six weeks, against two weeks for the standard DOG 6. For a tracker with a live SIM, that is a long interval between charges.
Tractive attaches the same qualifier it uses on every model: the figure is stated as "Up to 6 weeks (with Power Saving Zones)". Power Saving Zones reduce how hard the tracker works while the dog is in a defined safe area such as home, so the headline assumes you set that up and that the dog spends real time inside it.
The other side of that is live tracking. Tractive advertises location updates every two to three seconds in its live mode, and a tracker running that way is not on a six-week clock. Treat six weeks as the quiet-week ceiling and expect less on weeks with a lot of live use.
A cellular device, so the subscription is not optional
This is a GPS tracker with a built-in SIM, and Tractive's FAQ says the SIM uses mobile networks to send location information with all the fees covered by the subscription. The listing bullet states the same thing: a subscription is required and it covers the SIM and data. We are not quoting any plan price here.
That makes it categorically different from a Bluetooth finder tag, which has no ongoing fee but only reports when a compatible phone passes close by. With the XL you get a position from anywhere there is cellular service; without an active plan you get nothing at all, because the SIM is what carries the data.
On coverage, Tractive's specification table lists the XL as LTE/4G Cat1bis with Bluetooth 5.0 and 2.4 GHz WiFi, and positioning from GPS, GLONASS and Galileo. The FAQ on the same page instead describes coverage in over 175 countries where there is 2G and/or LTE CatM1 service from one of its partners. Those are two different radio descriptions, so check Tractive's coverage tool and ask which applies to TG6XLC before you rely on it in a marginal area.
Health monitoring, and the limit Tractive itself prints
The listing bullets describe vital signs monitoring of heart and respiratory rates, bark monitoring, and alerts when sleep, activity or barking patterns change. Tractive's own page describes the vitals as resting heart rate and respiratory rate collected while the dog is sleeping or resting, shown against the dog's own baseline, plus activity, sleep and scratch monitoring and a weekly report.
At the foot of every page on Tractive's site sits the limit: Tractive is not a medical device, and while it monitors trends and patterns in a pet's well-being it is not intended to diagnose health conditions. Its FAQ answers the question directly, saying Tractive does not diagnose and that medical advice and diagnosis should always be sought from a veterinarian.
The Amazon bullets phrase the same features more strongly than Tractive's own disclaimer allows. Use the data as a record of change to take to a vet, and take any question about what a reading means to that vet rather than to an app.
Phone requirement, warranty and what to settle before buying
Tractive requires Android 10.0 or newer, or iOS 17.0 or newer, for all three DOG 6 models. That iOS floor rules out several older iPhones still in daily use, so check the handset that will actually run the app rather than the newest one in the household.
Amazon's listing field says "2 Year Manufacturer". Tractive's own General Terms and Conditions for the United States, valid from 23 December 2025, say that except for consumer rights under mandatory law, products and services are provided on an as-is and as-available basis, that Tractive warrants only that products will be provided in usable condition, and that implied warranties of merchantability, satisfactory quality and fitness for a particular purpose are expressly disclaimed.
Those same terms add that product returns for refunds, replacements or repairs under warranty apply only in countries Tractive supports. Ask Tractive to confirm in writing what warranty applies to TG6XLC in your country before relying on the listing's two-year figure, and keep the receipt. Tractive separately advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee, which is a return window rather than a warranty.
