What it does, and what is actually in the carton
The Litter-Robot 4 is Whisker's automatic self-cleaning litter box. The listing says its sifting process separates waste from clean litter into a waste drawer that you empty when full, and Whisker's page describes a fresh bed of litter after every use and a tightly sealed drawer with a built-in carbon filter. The listing says the Whisker app monitors waste and litter levels and tracks weight after each use.
What ships with it is stated differently in the two places you might look. Whisker's product page says the box includes a fence, a step, a carbon filter and five waste drawer liners, while the listing's Included Components field says only Litter-Robot 4, though its bullets mention a fence and a step. Whisker describes the LitterHopper as an add-on, says a Carpet Tray lets the unit be used on any surface, and calls OdorTrap packs optional.

The listing gives two different sets on one page. Its overview and details tables say 24 inches long by 24 wide by 31 high, and a second product-dimensions line says 27 by 24.25 by 29.5 inches with the same 24 pound weight. Neither matches the manual, and nothing on the listing says whether either describes packaging.
Neither Whisker document read here explains the listing's figures, so confirm with Whisker or the seller which set describes the assembled unit. The same manual page gives the interior sizes: an entryway of 15.75 by 15.75 inches, a litter bed of 14 by 14 inches, an inside globe measuring 19 by 18 inches with a height of 15 to 17 inches depending on litter level, and a waste drawer of 5.50 by 13.50 by 9.25 inches.
Where it can stand, and where it cannot
Placement is a stated condition, not a preference. The manual says to put the unit on a firm, level surface and to avoid soft, uneven or unstable flooring, which it says may affect the unit's ability to detect your cat. The listing adds that its weight scale is most accurate on a firm surface rather than carpet or uneven floors.
It also has to stand clear. The manual says never to push the unit against a wall or into a corner, and states that it should not be touching any walls for accurate weight measurements. Allow for that clearance on every side, not just the 22 by 27 inch footprint the manual's figures give.
Mats and rugs have their own rule. The manual says to place a litter mat or rug in front of the unit or completely under it, never partially under it, and to use only low pile rugs and mats of a quarter of an inch. Whisker sells a Carpet Tray separately for people who want to stand the unit on carpet.
How many cats, and how small a cat can be
Whisker says one Litter-Robot 4 suits a household of up to four cats, and repeats that on both its product page and the listing bullets. Neither document read here sets out any further conditions on that figure.
There is a floor on cat size. The manual states that cats must weigh 3 pounds or more to use the Litter-Robot safely in Automatic Mode, and the listing gives the same rule as at least 3 pounds, or 1.4 kilograms. The rule sits in the manual's important safety instructions, which are the place to read it in full.
The entryway is 15.75 inches square and sits 12 inches above the floor, or 6.90 inches to the optional step and a further 4.50 inches from the step to the entryway. The manual's dimension page labels the step as optional, and the listing's bullets say a step is included.
The routine: drawer, litter, and the reset button
The light bar flashes blue when the waste drawer needs emptying. The manual's guidance on frequency is straightforward: for two average-sized cats, twice per week, and for a single cat, once per week. Liners can be Whisker's custom-fit drawer liners or any 10 to 13 gallon, 37 to 49 litre, trash bag.
Litter gets checked once a week or each time you empty the drawer, and filled only to the raised MAX fill line inside the globe, and the manual warns against overfilling. The manual also limits what may go in at all: clumping litter, or beads and crystals small enough to pass through the screen, and nothing else.
One button matters here. The manual says to press Reset to zero the weight sensors any time you affect the weight or placement of the unit, which includes emptying the drawer, adding or removing litter, and cleaning or moving it. The cleaning steps themselves are in the manual's use and care section.
Power cuts, accessories and the 90-day trial
A backup battery is available separately. The manual describes it as a sealed 12 volt DC, 1.3 amp hour battery, with the unit switching to Backup Battery Mode automatically when power is lost. In that mode Wi-Fi and the night light are disabled and the light bar runs at half intensity.
Whisker is firm about what else may be attached. The manual states that accessories not sold at litter-robot.com, whisker.com or its authorised resellers' websites are not approved or endorsed by Whisker, and that modifications or unauthorised uses may void the warranty. It also says modifying the hardware will void it.
The 90-day in-home trial has a condition worth reading before you buy here. The manual says an unsatisfied owner can return the unit for a refund of the purchase price and pays only return shipping, but it also says that if you bought the Litter-Robot from a source other than Whisker, you must coordinate the return with that source according to its own return policy. The listing separately advertises a WhiskerCare one-year warranty.
