A small wired camera, and what the box actually holds
The quick start guide lists the box as one Wyze Cam v4, one USB cable, one wall plate, one indoor power adapter, one piece of mounting tape, one mounting screw and the guide itself. Wyze's specification describes the cable as a 6-foot flat micro USB to USB-A and the indoor adapter as 110-240V input with a 5V/1A output. The camera weighs 0.49 lb.
It is a wired camera with no battery, so every placement needs a socket within reach of that cable or an extension. Mounting options on Wyze's spec are a stand, wall mount, ceiling mount or an adhesive magnetic wall mount, and the quick start guide labels a 1/4-inch mount and a mounting hole on the base alongside the SETUP button and the microSD card slot.
Two things the guide flags as not included matter: the microSD card, and the Wyze Outdoor Power Adapter, which the same guide says is required for outdoor use. Budget for both if this camera is going outside.
Picture, light and sound
Wyze's spec gives 2.5K QHD at 2560x1440 with wide dynamic range, 8x digital zoom and H.264 encoding, at 20 FPS in daytime and 15 FPS at night. Night vision comes from four 850 nm infrared LEDs plus two white spotlight LEDs rated 72 lumens, which is what enables the colour night view rather than a black and white one.
The two sources disagree on the field of view. Wyze's comparison block gives 115.9 degrees diagonal, 98.5 horizontal and 53.1 vertical; the Amazon listing says a 120-degree wide field of view and Amazon's table repeats 120 degrees. The diagonal figure is the one Wyze publishes.
Audio is a waterproof 99 dB speaker with simultaneous two-way talk and noise and echo cancellation. The listing describes a 100 dB siren; Wyze's own comparison row says 99 dB. Either way the siren and spotlight can both be triggered by motion or from the app.
Storage: two different card limits, and no card in the box
This is the clearest conflict on the page. Wyze's own tech specs say local storage needs a microSD card and supports a card up to 256GB, and its comparison row for the v4 repeats up to 256GB. The Amazon listing headline says 512 GB local storage and Amazon's technical table lists a maximum supported size of 512 GB.
Nothing we read explains the gap. If you intend to buy a large card, ask Wyze support what the v4's firmware supports before spending, because the maker's published figure is the lower one.
With a card fitted the camera can record continuously; Wyze's page describes 24/7 recording with a microSD card and its footnote says the v4 is wired, allowing continuous power and recording. Cloud storage is listed separately as requiring a subscription plan.
Which alerts are free, and which need Cam Plus
The Amazon listing says on-device AI distinguishes people, packages, pets and vehicles. Wyze's own product page says something different in its footnote: Smart Detection is included with its subscription plans, and while every Wyze Cam has motion detection, the plans get you more detections such as person, pet, package and vehicle detection, plus AI-based sound detection.
The quick start guide puts the same items under a panel headed Get better security with Cam Plus: full-length video recordings, smart AI detection of people, packages and vehicles, back-to-back event recording to capture everything without five-minute gaps, and exclusive discounts. That five-minute gap is the practical difference on the free tier.
So read the no-subscription-required claim carefully. Local recording to a card and basic motion detection work without a plan; the named AI categories and gap-free event clips are what Wyze attaches to Cam Plus. Free features listed without a plan condition include motion and sound detection, motion detection zones and smoke and CO alarm alerts.
Network, app and smart-home connections
Wi-Fi is 2.4 GHz, and Wyze also lists Wi-Fi 6 support, noting on the feature panel that a Wi-Fi 6 router is required to benefit. Amazon's table states 2.4GHz and not 5G compatible. Setup uses Bluetooth 5.2 rather than a QR code, and Wyze's steps require Bluetooth permission and a 2.4 GHz network password in the Wyze app.
Phone requirements are Android 9.0 or later and iOS 15.0 or later. Integrations listed are Alexa, Google Assistant and IFTTT, plus Wyze's own Rules automations. The camera also supports Smart Focus auto-zoom.
The troubleshooting sheet supplied with the listing is generic rather than v4-specific: it asks you to update the app and firmware, check Bluetooth and location permissions, confirm you are on a 2.4 GHz network, move closer to the router, power cycle and finally factory reset, with a disclaimer that steps vary by product.
Weather limits and a one-year warranty with conditions
Wyze rates the camera IP65 with an operating temperature of -4F to 122F (-20C to 50C) and a storage temperature of -40F to 158F. The Amazon listing gives a narrower operating range, -4F to 113F (-20C to 45C). The maker's figure is the higher one; if the top of that range matters where you live, confirm with Wyze.
Remember the outdoor caveat from the quick start guide: outdoor use requires the Wyze Outdoor Power Adapter, sold separately. An IP65 body does not make an indoor adapter weatherproof.
Wyze's warranty policy, supplied with the listing, gives one year from the date of purchase from Wyze or an authorized retailer for the original owner, against defects in materials and workmanship. It is not transferable, remedies are replacement or refund at Wyze's option, and replacements may be new or refurbished and are covered for the longer of three months or the remaining period. Excluded are products without valid proof of purchase, products located outside the United States or Canada, products bought from unauthorized resellers, products repaired by unauthorized parties, and products subjected to falls, extreme temperatures, water or operating conditions contrary to Wyze documentation. Check the seller of the offer you select.
