A small solid-tire commuter with a 365 Wh battery

The M1 on this listing is the orange version, model number M1-Orange; AOTOS sells it in red and orange. The M1 manual gives a 550-watt maximum motor power, a 36.5-volt, 10 amp-hour battery rated at 365 watt-hours, a top speed of 20 miles per hour, a rated range of 28 miles, about a 15 percent climb and an IPX5 rating. AOTOS's page repeats the 550-watt peak, 20 miles per hour and 28 miles.

Hardware is 8.5-inch solid tires, a front drum brake with a rear electric brake, front dual-tube spring shock absorbers and a rear rubber shock absorber, which the manual calls a torsion rubber unit. The manual lists the scooter at 39.24 pounds and the listing at 39.2 pounds. The listing's box contents are the scooter and a charger.

220 pounds on the listing, 265 in the manual

The listing's weight capacity field says 220 pounds. The M1 manual's specification page says a maximum load of 265 pounds, and its safety rules repeat that and add a minimum load of 97 pounds. Those are materially different figures for the same model, and AOTOS's product page does not state a load limit. Ask AOTOS to confirm in writing before relying on the higher figure.

The manual also recommends riders aged 12 and over, between 140 and 200 centimetres (about 55 to 78 inches) tall. The listing's details describe the age range as adult. Neither source explains the difference, so check local rules on minimum rider age and follow the manual's height range.

Range, speed modes and how it starts

The 28-mile figure is given as rated range in the manual and as up to 28 miles on AOTOS's page and the listing. None of the three sources states the test conditions behind it, such as rider weight, speed or temperature, so it cannot be compared directly with range figures that publish their test conditions.

The listing gives three speed modes, L at 4, M at 9 and H at 20 miles per hour. The manual says you must push off to at least 2 miles per hour before the throttle works. Its safety list asks you not to ride over bumps taller than 0.6 inches.

Where the manual says not to ride

The listing's recommended uses include off-road, but the manual says not to operate the scooter off the road, to stay clear of rough or uneven terrain, potholes and cracks, and lists suitable surfaces as cement or asphalt with grooves under 1 centimetre and cracks under 3 centimetres. It also says not to ride up or down steep slopes.

The manual further says not to ride near motor vehicles or on public roads, and not to ride in the dark or poorly lit areas. Those restrictions are stricter than the listing's commuting language, so read the full safety list before planning a route.

Charging, storage and cleaning

The manual gives a charge time of about 7 to 8 hours with the 42-volt, 1.5-amp charger, and a charging range of 3 to 40 degrees Celsius. Use only the original adapter. For storage over 30 days it says to fully charge, keep the scooter cool and dry, and recharge every 30 days, while its maintenance table says every 60 days; follow the shorter interval.

The manual gives an operating temperature range of minus 10 to 40 degrees Celsius and an IPX5 rating, and it has cleaning and battery-maintenance pages that we read only in outline; follow the care instructions printed there rather than the listing's summary, and keep the charging range of 3 to 40 degrees Celsius in mind.

Warranty and after-sales terms

The manual's after-sales page offers a replacement if there is a problem within the first month and a standard one-year warranty on the whole machine for quality issues within 12 months. It asks you to keep the packaging for at least a month and your receipt for warranty service, and says returns missing original accessories or authorisation may be refused.

AOTOS's product page also lists a one-year warranty and 30-day returns, matching the listing's warranty field. The manual's maintenance table covers tire checks every six months, handlebar screw torque every three months and steering checks yearly. The listing says the M1 is UL 2272 certified; neither the AOTOS page nor the manual pages we read mention it.
