Fit and limits

Strengths

  • Both the maker page and the listing state UL2272 certification for this model
  • Dual suspension front and rear plus 11-inch tires with two spare tubes supplied
  • 265-pound load limit and a widened anti-slip deck on a 6061 aluminium frame

Caveats

  • Charging takes 8 to 9 hours, so it is an overnight job every time
  • Listing and Hiboy give different warranty terms, 12 months versus a 6-month tier
  • Hiboy's climbing figure is 20 degrees, not 20 percent, and the two are not the same

The biggest scooter in Hiboy's commuter range

Hiboy's specification block for the MAX Pro gives a rated motor power of 500 watts with a peak of 650 watts, a top speed of 22 miles per hour, a maximum range of 46.6 miles, a 48-volt 15 amp-hour lithium-ion battery, dual suspension front and rear, 11-inch self-healing tires and an IPX4 rating.

That combination explains the two different motor numbers you will see. The Amazon page headline quotes 650 watts and the bullet quotes 500 watts, and both are correct because one is peak and the other is rated. Use 500 watts when comparing against another scooter's continuous rating.

Maximum load is 265 pounds, and Hiboy's feature text describes a 6061 aluminium frame and a widened anti-slip deck. Hiboy's geometry block gives that deck as 18.9 by 7.9 inches, with a 20.8-inch handlebar and a standing height of 42.6 inches.

Charging is an overnight job, and storage has a rule

Hiboy's specification block says charging time is 8 to 9 hours and the Amazon details table says 8 hours. Either way this is a scooter you plug in when you get home, not one you top up over lunch.

Hiboy also publishes a storage time of three months after a full charge. Read it alongside the warranty page, which excludes battery capacity fading over time from coverage.

Range is quoted as 46.6 miles. Hiboy's page does not print the test conditions behind that number for this model, and no MAX Pro manual was read, so treat it as an upper figure and ask Hiboy how it was measured.

Three ride modes, cruise control and app control

Both sources agree on the modes: Sport at 22 miles per hour, D at 16 and Eco at 11. Hiboy says cruise control is switched on or off by pressing the power button three times, so you do not need your phone in your hand to use it.

The Hiboy app connects over Bluetooth and handles speed modes, switching between miles and kilometres, locking and unlocking the scooter, and toggling the lights. Cruise control at least is on the power button, so that one function does not need the phone.

Lighting is a three-piece set on this model: an LED headlight rated by Hiboy at 3.0 watts, side lights and a tail light, which Hiboy lists together as the lighting set.

Tires, brakes and the suspension you are paying for

The 11-inch tires are described by Hiboy as self-healing. Hiboy also ships two free inner tubes, front and rear, and describes a split wheel hub.

Braking is front and rear drum brakes plus an electronic braking system, which Hiboy lists as E-braking and drum braking. The listing's special-features field also names a regenerative braking system, alongside the drum brakes Hiboy lists.

Dual suspension front and rear is the headline comfort feature on Hiboy's specification block. Neither source publishes suspension travel or any other figure for it, so it is a described feature rather than a measured one.

Size, folding and the numbers that do not line up

Hiboy's specification block gives 47.24 by 20.87 by 51.18 inches, which is also what the Amazon details table says, and a net weight of 51.59 pounds against the listing's 51.6. Hiboy's geometry block puts the folded height at 23.6 inches and its folding section quotes a folded size of 47.24 by 20.87 by 23.62 inches.

The Amazon bullet disagrees twice. It gives an unfolded size of 47.24 by 23.62 by 51.18 inches and a folded size ending in 20.47 inches, effectively swapping the width and folded height figures Hiboy publishes. Measure your boot or cupboard against the larger of each pair.

On climbing ability, only Hiboy states a figure, and it states 20 degrees rather than 20 percent. Those are not the same thing, and a 20-degree slope and a 20 percent grade are different measures, so ask Hiboy which it means before buying for a hilly route. Hiboy's sizing tool suggests rider heights from about 5 feet 3 inches to 6 feet 4 inches.

Certification, and a warranty stated two different ways

Certification is stated by both sources here. Hiboy's own product page states the MAX Pro has UL2272 certification by third-party labs, and the listing bullet says it passed stringent UL2272 testing and names UL LLC as the lab. Both the maker and the listing say it, which is what you want to see.

Warranty is the opposite. The listing's warranty field says a 12-month or 6-month warranty for different parts, the product page carries a one-year warranty badge, and Hiboy's warranty page describes a 12-month all-inclusive manufacturer warranty for the original owner with no six-month tier described anywhere. Ask which parts, if any, carry the shorter term.

The exclusions apply whichever version is current. Hiboy excludes battery capacity fading, damage caused by people, and damage from external factors including weather, fire, accidents and unauthorised modification. Repair service means free replacement parts only, shipping damage must be reported within seven days, and after the warranty period you either hold a separately bought extended plan or you pay for parts yourself.
