The E3 Pro variant of a three-model Segway listing

This listing's title covers the Ninebot E2 Plus II, E2 Pro and E3 Pro, so check which option is selected before relying on a figure. The option shown on inspection was the E3 Pro, and the listing's model and part number, 051902U, is exactly the model number in the specification table on Segway's own E3 Pro page. This guide covers that E3 Pro only; none of the figures here should be applied to the other two models in the listing.

Segway lists the E3 Pro at 400 watts nominal and 800 watts peak motor power, a 36-volt battery with 367 watt-hours of nominal energy (the same page's feature text and the store page say 368), a top speed of about 20 miles per hour and a maximum payload of 265 pounds. It has 10-inch tubeless tires, front and rear elastomer suspension, a front drum brake with an electronic rear brake, and an IPX5 rating.

Two range figures, and which one fits a commute

Segway publishes two ranges. Eco mode gives about 34 miles at 9 miles per hour and Sport mode about 17.5 miles at 20 miles per hour. Both come from riding a new, fully charged battery at full throttle in that mode until the scooter stops, with a load of 165 pounds give or take 11, about 77 degrees Fahrenheit, wind under 3 metres per second and a flat paved surface.

If you intend to ride near top speed, 17.5 miles is the number to plan around, not 34. The listing's own bullets repeat the same two figures. Segway rates the climb at about 18 percent, tested on a 10-metre slope with a 165-pound rider and a 70 percent charge.

Three different weights for one scooter

Segway's specification table gives the net weight as about 37 pounds. The listing's bullet says the foldable design weighs 40.1 pounds, and its details table says 47.8 pounds. We could not read Segway's manual to settle it. Neither source explains the gap, so treat Segway's 37 pounds as the maker figure and ask the seller to confirm before you plan to carry it up stairs.

Segway's dimensions are about 45.7 by 22.2 by 48.6 inches unfolded and 47.8 by 22.2 by 19.1 inches folded. The listing gives 22 by 45 by 48 inches with length and width swapped, so measure the space you plan to store it in against Segway's figures.

Safety labels: what Segway itself states

The listing title and a bullet say the scooter is certified to UL 2271 and UL 2272. Segway's US store page states that it was tested and certified by TÜV Rheinland for the UL 2272 standard. Neither Segway page we read mentions UL 2271. The product page also shows a UL Micromobility Performance Verification Mark badge, but its footnote on that mark refers to the F3 series, so ask Segway which marks apply to the E3 Pro.

Traction control is off when delivered and must be switched on in the Segway Mobility app. The page also describes a stability enhancement system, a 4-watt headlight, front and rear turn signals, a brake light and an RGB light strip under the deck.

Water, cold weather and storage limits

Segway's IPX5 footnote says not to charge the scooter when it is wet or in a moist environment, and that immersion in liquid and the resulting damage are not covered by the warranty. The footnote is the only water guidance on the page, so read it before riding in wet weather.

Segway says to store the scooter somewhere no colder than 14 degrees Fahrenheit. If it has been stored below freezing, move it somewhere above 41 degrees Fahrenheit before charging. Segway gives charging time as about seven hours. Its page also lists the durability tests it ran on the frame, and it states those are laboratory results that do not directly predict real riding life.

App features and warranty: what to confirm

The Segway Mobility app is where traction control is switched on, and Apple Find My tracking works with Apple devices on iOS 14.5 or later, according to Segway's page. Neither Segway page we read lists the app's other functions, so check the app store listing for what else it controls.

Segway publishes warranty terms per model through its warranty-information pages, but we did not read the E3 Pro's terms and the listing gives no warranty field. Before buying from a third-party seller, confirm with Segway that the seller is an authorised reseller and ask for the E3 Pro's limited warranty document.
