What the B50 is
The Aqara Smart Lock B50 is a keypad deadbolt with built-in Wi-Fi, and Aqara says it needs no hub or bridge and works with the Aqara Home app, Alexa and Google Home. Aqara's specifications list model DL-D12E, the same model as this listing, with Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6.
Aqara's box list is the lock, user manual, installation diagram, two keys, four AA batteries, a knob removal tool and screw kits. The manual says you need the Aqara Home app and an account before use. The FAQ says the lock can be set up over Bluetooth without Wi-Fi.
Wi-Fi: 2.4 GHz only, and what still needs Bluetooth
Aqara's product page, the manual and the FAQ all say the B50 supports only 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. The FAQ says Bluetooth is required for lock calibration, local mode switching, changing Wi-Fi networks and the electronic deadlock.
Aqara notes that battery life varies with your router, and the FAQ says Local Mode extends battery life. It also says an unstable network may make a Wi-Fi unlock fail.
Matter and Apple Home need an Aqara hub
Aqara's product page says Matter works through a compatible hub, currently the Aqara M3, G5 or M100, and the listing names Apple Home, Home Assistant and SmartThings as Matter platforms. The FAQ says HomeKit needs one of those hubs, bound with a Matter code, and that Siri voice control needs both an Apple hub and an Aqara hub.
Google Home and Alexa work without a hub, per the FAQ. For doorbells, Aqara's page names the G410 and G5, while the FAQ's unlock list names the G4 doorbell; neither document explains the difference.
Door fit
Aqara's product page lists a backset of 2-3/8 inches (60 mm) or 2-3/4 inches (70 mm), bore holes of 2-1/8 inches (54 mm) or 1-1/2 inches (38 mm), and door thickness of 1-3/8 to 2-1/8 inches (35 to 54 mm). The manual and the FAQ give door thickness as 35 to 55 mm, and the FAQ refers to wooden doors.
The FAQ says all door-opening directions are supported and that the cylinder can be replaced after removing one screw, and Aqara's page lists rekey support. The manual lists a PH1 screwdriver. We do not reproduce installation steps.
Weather: rated IPX3, and the FAQ says not for outdoor use
Aqara's product page describes the B50 as IPX3 weatherproof, able to withstand spraying water, with the outer panel operating from -31°F to 150.8°F, the inner panel from -0.4°F to 131°F, and humidity of 0 to 95 percent; the FAQ gives 0 to 93 percent. The listing says it is built to withstand the elements.
The FAQ, however, says the front keypad panel is IPX3-rated and not recommended for outdoor use. If your door is exposed to weather, ask Aqara which statement applies. The FAQ lists certifications as FCC, IC, CE RED and RCM, without BHMA, plus 100,000 auto-locking and unlocking tests.
Battery, codes and warranty
Four AA batteries last up to 6 months, per Aqara, based on five passcode entries and five remote unlocks a day; the FAQ states its figure at 25°C. The FAQ places a USB-C emergency port on the outer panel, and Aqara's page describes USB-C as an instant brief charge. The FAQ lists up to 75 passwords, 8 one-time passwords an hour, 6 to 10 digit codes with anti-peep padding to 20 digits, and up to 50 accounts.
The FAQ says the B50 detects lock status but not whether the door is open or closed. Features include auto-lock, night latch, failed-attempt lockout and Do Not Disturb. None of the documents we read states a warranty length, so ask Aqara or the seller.
