A full deadbolt swap with a fingerprint reader on the outside
The C220 is model T8506 and it replaces the whole deadbolt rather than sitting over an existing thumbturn. The guide walks you through removing your old lock, fitting eufy's own deadbolt, then the exterior assembly, the interior assembly and a new strike plate. Your old keys stop working and two new keys come in the box.
The exterior face carries a fingerprint button, a keypad, a battery indicator, a status light that doubles as the lock and unlock button, a keyway and a USB-C port. The status light is colour-coded: blue for unlocked, orange for locked, red for an abnormal state. Inside there is a thumbturn, a battery compartment and a setup button.
One line in the guide deserves attention before you buy: the keyway can be copied but cannot be rekeyed. If you were planning to have a locksmith key this to match your other doors, that is not an option according to the guide.
The door checks eufy prints, in both units
The guide gives a full door specification. The hole through the door edge is one inch, or 25.4 millimetres. Minimum distance is one and three quarter inches, 45 millimetres. Backset can be two and three eighths inches, 60 millimetres, or two and three quarters, 70 millimetres. Cross bore can be one and a half inches, 38 millimetres, or two and one eighth, 54 millimetres.
Door thickness is printed as a range from one and three eighths inches, 35 millimetres, up to 55 millimetres, and the fraction printed alongside that 55 millimetre figure does not convert cleanly, so use the millimetre numbers when you measure. The strike side matters too: eufy says the latch hole in the door frame must be a full inch deep or calibration may fail during setup.
Two adjustments cover most doors. For a 70 millimetre backset you rotate the deadbolt faceplate 180 degrees rather than buying a different latch. For a one and a half inch cross bore you remove a spacer from the exterior assembly first. If your latch recess is round rather than rectangular, the guide tells you to contact eufy support for a round drive-in faceplate, which is not in the box.
Five ways in, or six, depending which page you read
eufy's own product page is headed five ways to unlock; the Amazon title and bullet say six. Both then list the same methods: fingerprint, the eufy Security app, the keypad, the physical key, an Apple Watch, and voice through Alexa or Google Assistant. That is six items on both pages, so the discrepancy is in the count rather than the capability.
Fingerprint speed is also stated two ways. The listing bullet says less than one second, while eufy's product page says the lock recognises a fingerprint in less than 0.3 seconds. Both describe a self-learning system that eufy says gets more precise with use.
The keypad has an anti-peep feature: eufy's page says you can pad your PIN with random digits so anyone watching cannot read the real code. Wi-Fi is built in with no bridge, and eufy lists access management, real-time notifications and event history as the app features. If you already own a eufy doorbell, the page says the lock can join routines in the same app.
Eight AA batteries, and a USB-C port for when they die
Power is eight AA batteries, supplied, and eufy claims around eight months of life. The guide asks you to fit the lower layer of four first, to leave the cover off until the app setup is finished, and to lift the upper layer out before pulling the ribbon when you eventually change them.
The C220 has two fallbacks for flat batteries. The exterior face has a USB-C port that the guide describes as charging the lock in emergency situations, so a power bank gets you in without tools. There is also a physical key, which needs nothing charged.
eufy claims an IP53 rating and an operating range of minus 22 to 158 degrees Fahrenheit, which is minus 30 to 70 Celsius. Neither document we read explains what conditions IP53 covers, so a lock in a fully exposed position with no storm door is worth a question to eufy before ordering.
The BHMA claim, and what it actually says
eufy states on its own product page that the C220 is BHMA Grade 3 certified after being locked and unlocked more than 100,000 times, and repeats the claim in the Amazon bullets. That is a specific certification claim with a grade attached, and it is the maker's own wording on its own page.
The same page adds a durability line worth reading as the marketing it is: tested by BHMA and expected to work up to ten times a day for over 30 years. That is an expectation stated by the seller rather than a warranty term, and no certificate or test report was read for this page.
eufy also says the lock sends an alarm when there is an unusual attempt to open it. Nothing we read defines what triggers that alarm, how loud it is or whether it can be turned off, so treat it as a feature name rather than a specification.
Setup, accounts and what is not documented
Setup needs the eufy Security app and an account: the guide's final step says to download the app, sign up, then follow the in-app instructions to add the C220 to your device list. There is no documented way to commission the lock without that account, so factor it in if cloud accounts are a concern.
Installation itself is screwdriver work on a door that already has standard holes, and both eufy and the listing claim about 15 minutes with no drilling. The guide is specific that the cables must run underneath the deadbolt and that the battery cover stays off until app setup is finished.
Two gaps are worth stating. Nothing we read says a subscription is required to use the app's access management, notifications or event history. And no warranty document was read for this product, so ask eufy for the warranty period and its conditions before ordering rather than relying on a figure from a retail page.
