A fingerprint and keypad deadbolt with app access, virtual key sharing and a physical key, on four AA batteries. The maker offers it in Matter over Thread and Wi-Fi forms with different battery figures for each, and its exterior assembly is weather-rated while the interior half is explicitly indoor only.

Check these five measurements before you order
The user guide opens its installation section with a five-step door check, and it is the most useful page in the document. Door thickness must be one and three eighths to two and a quarter inches, which it also gives as 35 to 57 millimetres. The main bore hole must be two and one eighth inches, or 53 millimetres.
Backset must be either two and three eighths inches, 60 millimetres, or two and three quarters, 70 millimetres. The hole through the door edge must be one inch, 25 millimetres, and the latch hole in the frame must be at least one inch deep. A drill template is supplied for a new door that has no holes yet.
The guide is specific about method: it says do not use a power drill for installation, and to always install and test the lock with the door open to avoid accidentally locking yourself out.
Matter over Thread or Wi-Fi is a choice you need to pin down
ULTRALOQ sells the Bolt SE under a Technology option labelled Matter or Wi-Fi, and describes the two paths differently. Wi-Fi gives remote access through the Xthings Home app. Matter over Thread gives local control through Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home or SmartThings, and requires a Matter over Thread hub, which is a Thread border router, that is not included.
The Amazon listing straddles both. Its title says Wi-Fi Smart Lock, Matter Over Thread, its style name reads Fingerprint plus WiFi plus Matter, and its bullets describe both a built-in Wi-Fi route that needs no hub and a Matter route that does. ULTRALOQ's page carries collapsed questions asking whether Matter and Wi-Fi modes run at the same time and how to switch between them, and we did not open those answers.
So settle it with the seller before ordering: which mode the unit ships in, whether it can switch, and what you need for the mode you want. If you plan to use Wi-Fi, the listing says 2.4 GHz only, and advises keeping the router within about 70 feet of the lock.
Battery life depends on the mode, and the two documents disagree
ULTRALOQ publishes four battery figures for four combinations, all on four AA cells: up to eight months on Wi-Fi with alkaline batteries, up to a year on Wi-Fi with lithium, up to a year on Matter over Thread with alkaline, and up to a year and a half on Matter over Thread with lithium. The Amazon bullet's headline of 18 months is the most optimistic of those four, not a general figure.
Here is the problem. The user guide's important notes say to use AA alkaline batteries only, and that rechargeable or non-alkaline batteries are not recommended. Lithium AA cells are non-alkaline, so the maker's own longest battery claims rest on a chemistry its own guide tells you not to use.
We are reporting both statements as written rather than choosing one. Ask ULTRALOQ which chemistry is approved for this model before you buy batteries in bulk. Both sources agree there is an automatic low-battery alert.
Two weather ratings on one page, and an interior half that has none
ULTRALOQ's feature copy describes IP54 weather protection with an enhanced weatherproof exterior assembly. Its specification block on the same page instead says the external assembly is IP65 rated. Those are different ratings, and nothing on the page explains the difference, so confirm which applies before fitting this to an exposed door.
Both the page and the guide agree on the more important half of that answer: the interior assembly is not weather-resistant. ULTRALOQ says it is intended for indoor use only, and the guide explains why, noting the interior assembly is not waterproof because of the exposed battery compartment. This is not a lock for a gate, a shed or any door with weather on both sides.
Temperature ranges are consistent across both documents and split the same way: the exterior assembly works from minus 4 to 149 degrees Fahrenheit, and the interior assembly from 14 to 131 degrees. If your porch gets very cold, the inside half is the limiting part.
Ways in, sharing and the certification wording
ULTRALOQ lists the unlock methods as fingerprint, keypad code, the app, auto unlock and a physical key, with a watch app alongside the phone app. The Amazon bullets add a web portal, eKey and code sharing, and voice control through Siri, Alexa or Google Assistant, and put the capacity at up to 50 fingerprints and up to 50 passcodes.
Access management covers permanent, scheduled and temporary virtual keys, access logs and customisable alerts. Auto-lock runs on a preset timer, or you press the ULTRALOQ button to lock immediately. The listing states plainly that a door sensor is not included, so auto-lock is time-based rather than door-state based.
On certification, read the wording carefully. The Amazon listing gives no BHMA grade. ULTRALOQ's page says every smart lock from the brand is designed to meet the highest possible standards from BHMA and ANSI, which is a design statement rather than a stated grade. Neither document we read gives a BHMA grade or a certificate number for this model.
Setup, packing and the practical notes in the guide
The app is Xthings Home, which ULTRALOQ notes was formerly called U home, and it runs on iPhone and Android. The Apple Home app is supported on the Apple Home and Matter versions. ULTRALOQ describes two-layer 128-bit AES encryption with AWS integration, and describes Matter over Thread as local control through the platforms named above.
The guide's packing list shows the interior and exterior assemblies, the interior mounting plate, the bolt, three screw types, a reset needle, the drill template, the user guide and an optional quick setup guide. Amazon's included-components field also lists two emergency keys, which we did not see illustrated on the packing-list page we read, so check for them when the box arrives.
Two more instructions from the guide are worth following. Do not insert the batteries until the lock is fully installed. And if you ever need to send the lock back, remove the device from the app settings first and then contact support.
