BLACK+DECKER's appliance site shows the product as TO3217SS-RFP, with a GTIN of 00050875828087 that matches the listing's UPC, and links a use and care manual whose cover reads TO3217SS. The manual and product page describe the same Crisp 'N Bake air fry toaster oven.
It has five functions, bake, broil, toast, keep warm and air fry, controlled by three knobs for temperature and function, the timer and toast shade. The listing and product page say it fits six slices of bread or a 12-inch pizza, and the manual says the toaster holds a maximum of six slices in a single layer.
The manual's parts list names an air fry mesh cooking rack, a bake pan that doubles as the drip tray, a rack and a crumb tray, each with a replacement part number, plus a glass door and a power indicator light. Amazon's included-components field lists an air fry basket, bake pan and rack.
Air fry runs the oven at 425°F
The manual says the air fry mode operates the oven at 425 degrees Fahrenheit. It says preheating is not necessary for air frying, and that food should go in a single layer on the mesh rack, placed in the middle or lower rack position.
The timer runs up to 60 minutes, and the manual says to use the Stay On setting for cooks longer than that. It also says you must either set the timer or choose Stay On for the oven to operate. An audible signal sounds when the set time ends, according to the manual.
The manual also asks you to clean out the crumb tray frequently when using air fry. For baking and broiling it recommends preheating for 10 minutes, and it says the oven is designed to cook rapidly, so food should be checked earlier than the recipe's time.
The dial reads hotter than the oven runs
One line in the manual is worth knowing before you rely on the temperature knob: temperatures in the oven will be lower than your set point. The manual attributes this to the heating elements used and says the dial settings have been calibrated to give the expected results for most recipes.
The manual also warns that cook times vary with altitude, humidity and electrical supply. It says to keep food and any baking dish at least 1.5 inches from the upper heating elements, and to keep food within the edges of the pan rather than letting it hang over the sides.
Metal, ovenproof glass and ceramic bakeware can be used, according to the manual. It warns against putting paper, cardboard or plastic in the oven and against inserting oversized foods or metal utensils, and it says to keep the oven's crumb tray in place during use.
Counter space: six inches all round
The manual says that during operation the oven should have 6 inches or more of clearance around the sides, back and top, and that it must not touch or be covered by flammable materials such as curtains or walls. It says not to store anything on top of the unit while it is operating and not to place it on or near a hot burner or in a heated oven.
Size figures differ between sources. BLACK+DECKER's specification block lists 20.08 inches long, 18 inches wide and 11.2 inches high, and 14.3 pounds. Amazon's table lists 18 by 16 by 11.2 inches and 14.46 pounds. Neither source explains the difference, so check the dimensions with the seller before you plan the counter space and add the manual's clearances.
The manual says the product is for household use only and not for outdoor use, and that it should not be left unattended while operating. It says not to cover the crumb tray or any part of the oven with metal foil, and it gives overheating as the reason.
Power: 1500 W on a grounded plug
The product page and Amazon both list 1500 watts, and the manual's rating label text reads 1500W, 120V, 60Hz. The oven has a grounded plug that only fits a three-prong outlet, and the manual says to consult a qualified electrician if you are unsure whether your outlet is grounded.
The manual says a short power cord is supplied. If you use an extension cord, the manual says its marked rating should be at least as great as the appliance's, it should be a grounding-type 3-wire cord, and it should be arranged so it does not drape over the counter.
The manual says the unit has a tamper-resistant screw on the outer cover, and that it contains no user-serviceable parts. It also says it is not intended to be operated with an external timer or separate remote-control system.
Cleaning and the two-year warranty
The manual says the wire rack and the air fry mesh rack are dishwasher safe, while the bake pan and crumb tray are recommended for hand washing. The glass door is cleaned with a sponge and dish soap rather than a spray cleaner. It says not to use aerosol or spray oven cleaners, not to use metal scouring pads, not to try to clean the heating elements, and to clean only with the oven off, unplugged and cool.
The warranty in the manual applies in the United States and Canada and covers defects in material or workmanship for two years from original purchase with proof of purchase; the product page also lists a 2 year limited warranty. The remedy is a similar replacement product, new or factory refurbished.
It excludes commercial use, misuse or neglect, modified products, products used outside the country of purchase, glass parts and accessory items packed with the unit, and shipping and handling costs for the replacement.
