What you get: a 212cc dual-fuel inverter with an RV outlet

Champion model 201319 is a 4,500-watt dual-fuel inverter generator with electric and manual recoil start and a 212cc four-stroke OHV engine. The manual's parts list includes a 6-foot LPG hose with regulator, 0.5 US quart of engine oil, an oil funnel and tools. Champion's product page also lists the battery.

The panel has two 120V 20A NEMA 5-20R outlets, a 120V 30A TT-30R RV outlet rated 29.2 amps, a regulated 12V DC 8A outlet and parallel outlets. There is no 240V outlet. Amazon's table lists only two total outlets and a 50 hertz frequency, while the manual says 60 Hz; go by the manual's receptacle list and specification page.

Watts per fuel and run time at quarter load

The manual rates the 201319 at 4,500 starting and 3,500 running watts on gasoline, and 4,500 starting and 3,150 running watts on propane, at 29.2 amps running at 120V. Champion's product page ties run time to 25 percent load: up to 14 hours on a full tank of gasoline and up to 21 hours on a 20-pound propane cylinder.

Those run times are at quarter load, so expect less at heavier loads; neither source we read gives a half-load figure. The manual lists gasoline capacity as 2.25 gallons, while the product page description says 2.3 gallons. It asks for unleaded fuel of at least 87 octane with 10 percent ethanol or less, and says not to use E15 or E85.

Claims on the product page, and the weight difference

Champion's product page states 61 dBA measured from 23 feet without naming the load, and clean power under 3 percent THD. The manual we searched does not list a THD figure, so treat it as a product-page claim. The product page calls the generator EPA certified; neither the product page nor the manual pages we read states that this model is CARB compliant or sold in all 50 states.

The manual lists the generator at 103.6 pounds and 23.2 by 17.7 by 20.1 inches. Amazon lists 99.2 pounds with the same dimensions. Neither source explains the difference, so plan around the heavier figure when deciding whether one person can move it.

Floating neutral, parallel kit and a lithium start battery

The manual's specification page lists the grounding type as neutral floating, meaning the neutral is not connected to the frame. It explains that devices needing a grounded receptacle pin connection may not work if that pin is not functional. If you plan to feed a home through a transfer switch, the manual requires a listed 30A transfer switch installed by a licensed electrician.

Parallel operation needs an optional Champion kit, and the manual names model 100319 as the recommended kit; the product page describes it as a 50A ParaLINK kit with a 50-amp RV outlet. The starting battery is a 12V, 1.6Ah lithium-ion pack. The manual says it stays charged if the generator runs for two hours with Economy mode off at least every 180 days; otherwise use a lithium-ion maintainer, not included.

Shipping bolts, break-in and the maintenance schedule

The generator ships without oil and with shipping support hardware, which the manual says must be removed before adding oil or fuel. Oil capacity is 0.5 US quart, with 10W-30 recommended for typical use. The battery connector also has to be joined before electric start will work.

The manual schedule calls for checking oil every 8 hours or before each use, an oil change after the first 5 hours, air filter cleaning every 50 hours or yearly, and oil, spark plug and spark arrestor service every 100 hours or yearly. The LPG hose is replaced every three years.

Outdoor placement, CO Shield and warranty terms

The manual says never to run it inside any building, garage, shed, RV generator compartment or truck bed, or next to walls, and not in rain or snow. It asks for 5 feet of clearance from combustible material and 3 feet of airflow clearance on all sides. CO Shield shuts the engine off if CO builds up, is not a substitute for an indoor CO alarm, and the generator will not start with the module removed.

The written warranty covers parts and labor for three years for the original purchaser, and 270 days for commercial and industrial use. Champion asks you to register within ten days with a purchase receipt, contact its technical service rather than the store, and use authorized repair. Starting batteries, wear items and use as prime power are excluded, and the purchaser pays transport charges.
