A 500cc dual fuel generator with CO ALERT

The XP13000HX is DuroMax's 500cc, 13,000-watt dual fuel portable generator with a CO ALERT shutdown, an all-metal frame, an 8.3-gallon gasoline tank and an automatic voltage regulator. DuroMax does not describe it as an inverter, and its spec table gives its total harmonic distortion as under 5 percent.

Amazon's model and part fields both read XP13000HX and the UPC matches the maker page. The manual's package contents list a propane regulator with hose, an oil funnel with hose, a double-sided screwdriver, spanner wrenches, a spark plug wrench and plug ends for wiring your own cords. The product page adds a wheel and handle kit, and its spec table describes the propane hose as four feet long.

Running watts on each fuel, and where the sources differ

On gasoline, DuroMax rates the XP13000HX at 13,000 peak and 10,500 running watts in both the product page and the manual. On propane the product page says 12,500 peak and 10,000 running, while the manual's wattage and specification tables say 12,350 surge and 9,975 rated. For propane planning, use the lower manual figure so your loads stay inside both.

The product page lists runtimes of 17 hours at 25 percent load and 8.5 hours at 50 percent on gasoline, and 13 and 6.5 hours on propane. The manual repeats the 50 percent figures and ties the propane one to a 40-pound tank, which DuroMax also gives as the suggested minimum tank size. Runtime at heavier loads is not published in the sources we read.

Four GFCI household outlets plus 14-50R and L14-30R

The spec table lists four 5-20R outlets, one L5-30R, one L14-30R and one 14-50R; Amazon's bullets describe the four as 120V GFCI household outlets. The manual describes the L14-30R and the 50-amp 14-50R as 120/240-volt receptacles and the L5-30R as 120 volts. The spec table lists no 12V DC socket and no TT-30R, so a 30-amp TT-30 RV plug would need an adapter that is not in the box.

Amazon calls the 50-amp outlet transfer switch ready. The manual says to connect to a building only through a qualified electrician and under local codes, to balance loads across both sides of the circuit, and not to use idle control, which it describes as gasoline only, when backing up house power, because it causes large swings in voltage and frequency.

Weight, wheels, starting and the CO shutdown

The product page lists a dry weight of 240 pounds and a product weight of 246, the manual says 246 and Amazon says 245. Dimensions are 30 by 29 by 26 inches. The wheel kit uses 10-inch metal-hub wheels and is fitted by the owner along with support legs; the manual labels it an optional setup step.

Starting is by push button or recoil, and DuroMax's spec table says remote start is not offered on this model. A 12V sealed lead acid battery is included; the manual has you connect its negative cable during setup and use a battery switch to avoid drain in storage. CO ALERT shuts the engine down when dangerous CO is detected, blocks a restart for five minutes, and lights yellow for a system error.

Emissions status, placement, oil and break-in

DuroMax's spec table says EPA certified yes, CARB certified no and 50-state compliant no. The manual's file name includes CARB, but the warranty document linked from the page gives only a federal EPA emissions statement. California buyers should confirm with DuroMax before ordering. Noise is 74 dB on the page and under 74 dB in the manual, with no distance or load stated.

The manual says outdoors only in non-confined areas, with several feet of clearance on all sides for ventilation. The engine ships without oil and takes 40.5 fluid ounces, 1.2 liters, of 10W-30. Break-in is the first 6 to 8 hours under half load on conventional oil, followed by an oil change; the schedule then calls for oil changes every three months or 50 hours of heavy use, or every six months or 100 hours of normal use.

Five years of parts coverage, residential use only

Both the manual and the current warranty document give the original purchaser a five-year parts warranty for residential use, with unusually heavy or commercial use covered for one year. Amazon's field says five years manufacturer. The warranty is non-transferable, the owner pays freight on items sent in, and it excludes normal wear, maintenance, cosmetic defects, accessories and damage from non-OEM parts.

Neither document promises labor under the five-year warranty. The separate two-year emissions warranty does cover diagnosis, parts and labor for covered emissions components. If a buyer intends heavy or business use, the one-year term is the one that applies under DuroMax's own wording.
